Ok, I know it's his first year. I also know VDN is stuck coaching a team that doesn't have a great post player, which makes things more difficult. However, he has two of the most athletic players in the league in TT and Rose, a potentially great PG (again Rose), andmore shooters than one team can usually hope for. This brings me to my point: VDN needs to watch what other NBA teams are doing. He really should watch the Hornets and the Cavaiers (honestly any team he wanted, but these two especially).
He should watch the Hornets so he can learn what he should be doing with Rose. No, Derrick is nowhere near Paul's ability yet, however, Rose is very qucik, athletic, and can beat his man off the dribble. Why are the Bulls not running high screen and rolls with lots of space with Rose and Thomas (or anyone really)?
He should also take a point from what the Cavs do with LeBron James. No, Rose is not LeBron, but Rose is usually very close to the most athletic player on the court. These teams also have another thing in common: no dominant post player! The Cavs give LeBron room to work, but spread their shooters around the arc.
I saw something amazing during the Bulls v. Blazers game. Rose got picked up by Joel Przybilla off a loose ball. What happened next was astonishing. Instead of keeping Rose isolated against a less than able defender, two Bulls players rushed to Rose's side of the court to give him options. Essentially, they got in Rose's way!
In short, get a clue VDN. Start giving Rose some room and take advantage of the strengths this team actually has.
