A loss does NOT mean we aren't playing better!!!
I think it's obvious, we are no longer playing Larry Hughes. On a serious note, it is a combination of things.
1.)This, in my book, is the most important. Kirk Hinrich has brought an intensity that no other player has shown so far in this early season. Anyone who watches the games can see that there is an exciting uplifting when he is in the game. For some reason they seem to play just a little bit harder when he is in the game. He has had a very positive affect on this team. He does not shoot as much, so when the ball comes to him, he is quickly looking to give it up. It most certainly has a positive affect on the smoothness of our offense....(not to mention he is our best perimeter defender)
2.)Hughes is no longer getting any minutes..........Umm....enough said.
3.)We are finally getting the right guys to start the game...(athough, the actual rotation still needs some help). rose, BG, TT, Deng, and Noah. THIS is exactly what we have all been waiting for since the season started. Again, we need better management of the players minutes, and we obviously need better decision making when it comes to "matchups", but this is seriously an improvement over what we are used to seeing.
There is also other reasons why we are doing better recently but they all have to do with the reasons i stated above. (like, better defense and intensity and ball movement)
But the real reason for this post is to show my excitement for this team. I actually feel that we can make the playoffs in the 6th 7th or 8th seed and make a series out of it. Not like a week ago when i would of preferred to lose every single game to get into the lottery instead of just getting killed in the first round of the playoffs.
We finally have hope which means that the coaching staff MUST be doing something right (obviously they have some work to do with the subbing, but they are improving).
HOPE IS ALL I COULD ASK FOR FROM A TEAM THAT HAS A ROOKIE PG AND A ROOKIE COACH.....
please feel free to attack me in every way you can.....these are just my thoughts on what i've seen recently......just remember that we here at BAB are all in it for the same reason....to see the bulls succeed. happy blogging!!

You should put a poll at the bottom

maybe....but i think theres different reasons why we are playing better..... it sure would start a discussion(argument) though.
I voted Hinrich
I don’t catch a lot of Bulls games so most of my team knowledge is from this blog. That knowledge alone prevented me from giving any credit to the coaches.

lol on adding a poll:)
There’s no way i’m giving the coaching staff credit for doing anything. If it took Vinny half of a season to realize that Larry, Lindsey and Aaron shouldn’t play he probably needs to quit asap.

i'll give you that i guess.....
but………it still is the coaches decision on who plays and who doesnt. also who gets big minutes and who gets very few minutes…………….
Are you saying masputo has a nice poll?

Interesting, because
I think if you brought up that first point earlier in the season you would have got an assortment of moans and groans and various snarky comments about playing with “passion!”. But after watching Hinrich play with the team the past few games, it really has stuck out how much he helps the team just by bringing intensity. Unfortunately I think it’s an indictment of the NBA as a whole that one player who just tries really hard can have such an impact, but oh well.
Obviously Hughes being gone is fantastic. Most importantly though is the fact that we’re seeing really steady rotations. Aaron Gray has been banished. and that’s great. Not because I hate Gray, but because it does no good for him, or the team for him to play 12 minutes a game. Things are finally looking up a little and now we can judge Vinny even more harshly because he has his full compliment of players.
Del Negro is starting to grow on me.
I thought his substitutions sucked but I think they were due to upper management wanting to show case trade bait. Well also injuries too. But as of late I don’t have any problem with what he’s doing. Maybe using Tyrus more down the stretch but other than that I think he’s a pretty good coach.
I presume
He’s growing off you again after yesterday (though I didn’t watch the game because I heard MacNeil was out and was doing some research and saw the score)…
You also completely left out the fact we'd had weeks of no Luol Deng
Truly the invisible man.
De gustibus non est disputandum
Luol needs to act more "gritty" - yell, flop, wave his arms, etc. so it would APPEAR he was trying harder.
by Granny Waiters on Jan 18, 2009 11:23 AM CST up reply actions
Well, apparently VDN told Luol to go stand on one spot on the floor,
and wait for the ball to get passed to him if his man left to double team Rose, so it was hard for him to do much. Now that nonsense is over with, Deng has been putting up double-doubles and of course playing very good defense.

no kidding
news to the world: this team actually has a lot of talent. They’re barely getting to average play lately. Coaching and development is still flaming hot garbage. I’m not impressed.

is that the day he resigns?
or the day he becomes an NBA caliber coach(he is looking a tiny bit less terrible)?
I think you mean Pax & the 19th.
Have to agree with yfBB, I was not so impressed with our performance last night or @Tor, Cavs game was pretty good tho.
One possible reason you left out
It’s possible that Kirk and Deng, being pros, benefited by being sidelined and watching for an extended period. Kind of like a month locked in the video libarary to analyze how to best play in this offense. Wondering if Rose couldn’t similarly benefit from sitting back and watching a couple of games?
Next year rose
This year they brought rose in expecting him to come off the bench and “ease into his role”. I think rose surprised everybody with his talent, but when hinrich was injured the bulls were forced to put even more burden on rose (as if losing wasnt enough for him). I say next year the organization puts even more time on rose, not just teaching him the basics but honing the skills he already has as well as teaching him better defense (ive heard its hard to learn and grasp newer concepts during the season) and i expect rose knowing exactly what he is going into will prepare alot better, i think his numbers will increase dramatically next season (and if we make it to the playoffs i expect him to be amazing cuz he seems like that kind of player.)
On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!
Thank you for the Hinrich boost
Actually Hinrich’s been playing well before he went down. I think it’s just that playing next to Rose, some pressure’s been lifted from his shoulders as he’s no longer the only leader of the team now.
Also, him coming off the bench isn’t a problem. He can be a viable 6th man as long as he doesn’t try to do to much. (in a world where Noc is now a 6th man, anyone can)
Shame on those people who say he can’t play the off guard spot. He may be undersized but I’m convinced that he’d adjust. He did play predominantly at the 2 in Kansas
How many NBA quality 2's did St. Kirk play against while at Kansas?
by Granny Waiters on Jan 18, 2009 3:53 PM CST up reply actions
Who cares?
How many NBA quality 2’s has Kirk done a good job guarding in the NBA? All of them pretty much.

The Hinrich comment is a complete insult to Nocioni.
Does that guy bring anything OTHER than intensity?
Puh-leeeeeeeeze.
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
i do agree with you to a point...but there is a fine line between intensity and out of control....noch crosses that line alot..
It's not just his "intensity"
Kirk is helping the team (and Luol) so much because he does things that Noce doesn’t do, even though they both are giving it their full effort.
1. Kirk keeps the ball moving in the offense. Noce, not so much.
2. Kirk can stay with his man on defense. Noce has lost a step.
3. Kirk is a vet that has a very high basketball IQ (at least compared to most of this team) and allows them to incorporate many more sets as compared to Rose who is still learning and “BG who only knows, catch the ball and dribble a lot trying to get my shot off.” It’s really the exact thing as Hughes, only Ben is a WAY better shooter and scorer than Hughes, so you get a lot more of the “man that was stupid, but at least it went in” with BG7 and with Hughes you just get “Hughes, would you please stop taking so many bad jump shots! Don’t you realize you suck? Everyone else does.”
4. Kirk is finally becoming a leader. I think this injury is a great thing for Kirk. He was able to watch his team flounder without leadership on the floor. And he was able to watch teams like the Celtics and others succeed with vets who worked harder than anyone else, got the job done and demanded that the other guys did the same. Until the last three games, the Bulls haven’t had anyone that could be taken seriously since PJ Brown was here. Deng? Talk about up and down performance. Kirk would put on his Iowan mope. BG would screw the team at the end of a game. Noce just a goofball, not a leader. Gooden? Hughes? Obviously, Rose is a rookie and is wisely waiting until he has done something in this league before calling out players, a la Noah. TT? Too unprofessional. (That was sarcastic joke, but also in this case, still true).
But Now Kirk seems to have put it together. He is coming out and making the plays he is suppose to (mostly). He is providing good defense on his man and making it easier on his teammates. He is moving the ball and helping the overall offensive flow. He is taking pressure off of Rose, both handling the ball and calling plays when needed. He needs to keep this up and then become the “Skiles” on the court, holding everyone else accountable for their effort. Both physically (running the floor instead of jogging, help defense, good rotations) and mentally (remembering the plays called and how to execute them, knowing how much time is left, protecting every possession at the end of a close game.)
Defense in exchange for offense
yet another reason why kirk may be better off the bench. Against the spurs, i didnt watch the game but i heard hinrich did one hell of a job on Parker. Looking at the boxscore i groaned….2 of 9 shooting for 4 pts and i think he might have had 1 rebound and assist….not good numbers. I had to question if playing defense on parker takes everything out of him, so in other words, if we play a good team with good guards, you can expect hinrich to play solid defense but then make sure he is in with the player who is doing the best scoring points, because he probably wont contribute much (although most people here wouldnt be surprised by that no matter who we were playing)
On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, majoyenrac, Bullshooter and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light!
Because he is an awful coach
How hard is it to play Kirk and Deng more than Hughes?

We're playing better?
2-3 since Hinrich and Deng returned, with wins over a 16-27 Toronto team and a Cleveland team missing three starters?
Not to downplay the Cleveland win – it was nice. But we got damn lucky (LeBron missed 13 shots in a row, we scored 16 points in the 4th, and we still needed LeBron to miss the last second jumper in regulation). And that’s still our only win against a .500+ team in the last 30 days. I like seeing Kirk and Luol playing hard, but christ, let’s at least make a mini-run before we start the “Keys to Our Recent Success” posts.
yeah... agree
sounds like a paxson type assumption.. “therefore I will not make any trades”…
man up!
I'm gonna have to agree...
May be a bit too early for seeing these past few games as a success or turnaround. But some aspects may be headed into a better direction, like playing going towards more of the producing talent & desire to play hard. That has a positive feel, I think we all might feel a bit of that???
Press the trade button. At this point no one will be missed!
Better than midway point .. even if we perform about the same with kick ass Kirk and Deng ...
final record would be about 36 – 46, not so playoff bound or spark my interest to watch them on TV let alone go to a game!
I rather watch/attend college hoops!
man up!
college hoops blogs too??

not so fast...
"I rather watch/attend college hoops and read BaB!, instead of wasting time watching the Bulls lose games far to often.

If nothing else Matt
You’ve got a slogan if you ever take BaB public.
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get tangled, you tango on
its funny how all the comments were positive for the most part...until we lost to the knicks..... this is typical of BAB....bunch of people who will love you when u do good...but hate you when you dont.......we gotta take the bad with the good people...da
a: all of the above
Again
It’s because our team has a lot of talent and should be better than we are….rotations suck….
I think this team has been MUCH more entertaining than last year (keeping games close for the most part sans Blazers and Celtics and a few others) but we’re a better team than our record…..of course Toronto fans must be even more upset as their a better team than us and we have a better record….go figure.
No more Pacifiers!
Every team in the NBA has talent and players making millions of dollars. Over the course of the last 125 games we are exactly who are record says we are!
A NBA team is not only comprised of 15 players, but coaches, mgmt, owners, additional staff, decisions, attitudes, influences, a mascot and cheerleaders. :), etc…
Please, no more 2007-08 excuses …
Yes, more entertaining, probably means Derrick Rose and 3 more wins better than last year!
Actually try replacing “entertaining” with “lucky in the draft lottery”… still nothing else really change. The same culture exists.
man up!
No excuses
We suck, but we have been a pretty entertaining suckitutude until the last 3-4 minutes of the game where we give the games up.
And I would say
Lucky in the lottery if that was just it, it isn’t.. Had Rose kept up the Nov early Dec play, hell yes, but he really hasn’t been as good of late (Assists aside, and a few games aside).
He WILL be awesome and will keep us more entertaining soon, but hopefully this offseason he can work a bit on defense….
Are you mixing up Vows of Marriage with watching your local basketball team?
Heck, 1/2 of the marriages today don’t follow this rule, which in essense is a stronger bond, you now expect better devotion to the mismanaged Chicago Bulls?
Hey dude, when have they been “good” for a least three games in a row? “four”?
man up!
