Tyrus eating souls!

Love that LBJ got called about by Van Pelt for his 8-step crab dribble.

larry has that system down to a science. Especially with the way the economy is….big wigs like larry coming in dressed in their mink coats and 24k gold cigarrete holders with pockets lined with coke make for a large draw during shift changes.

he had 20 last night

oh wait, he got to the line 0 times and had 6 rebounds in 36 minutes. (Tyrus only had 7 in the same time, but still!)

Yeah

And LMA’s playing with Roy and Oden to take the pressure off…..

He’s a better player today than Tyrus still, but the potential’s still much much higher for T2, and now I hope the last few games of good Tyrus minutes starts to show some of that potential being realized.

How many blocks did LMA have?

by majoyenrac on Jan 16, 2009 12:46 PM CST up reply actions

he had 1

agreed on Thomas/Aldridge. No doubt Aldridge is currently better. But you can only do so much with a PF who doesn’t rebound or defend and gets most of his shots 18 feet from the basket. Luckily for the Blazers they have Greg Oden so it may not matter.

I agree long run Tyrus will be better.

He’s just now starting to look comfortable in his role. I would still make that trade today!

Stop yourselves.

Somewhere on BE

They are still wondering if Aldridge will ever become more than a decent player. He is the most complained about player on the roster on that site.

My thoughts exactly

And even with the lumps I haven’t changed them too much….

Of course when we thought we had Ben Wallace the old Piston form, that made the draft a little more questionable considering there was no chance that Tyrus would be ready until year 3-4 (and we did have a nice rookie year from him which was unexpected in the draft)….

But I do think T2’s upside has always been much higher, much higher. Hopefully he can start to collect on that the rest of this year and on.

by majoyenrac on Jan 16, 2009 1:07 PM CST up reply actions

The key is his defensive upside

It’s a given that LMA is going to be a better offensive player than TT (unless Tyrus all magically acquires great awareness on that end).

But defensively, TT really has the potential to be ELITE. Not just good, which is where LMA will be on the offensive end. Last night was a perfect demonstration of the impact TT can have on the defensive end and how important that is for a winning team. A couple more 20 footers that go in don’t have as big an impact as guarding the best player in the world well and making spectacular blocks time after time.

If TT can get to the point where he’s consistently the best defensive player on the floor – someone other teams fear when they get within 5 feet from the rim, someone who can guard 3’s and 4’s with ease, than he’s well worth trading for LMA. And if he can put on another 10-15lbs and increase his strength (very doable) and retain his quickness, that’s what he’ll be.

by kig on Jan 16, 2009 1:55 PM CST up reply actions

LMA

Might be the better offensive player in pure skills, but T2 too could be the more effective offensive player with that leaping ability, passing ability, driving ability and developing shooting touch….not to mention the put back/O boards angle.

Course we have a bit to go to see it…but that potential is there too. Even Reggie started to see bits of it by the end of the broadcast…and I hate Reggie.

by majoyenrac on Jan 16, 2009 2:21 PM CST up reply actions

Does anyone else remember Phil Jackson talking about how Rodman

was a good offensive player despite being a poor shooter, because of the passing and screening he did? No reason that TT can not do the same, while being a much better finisher at the rim with his greater length and vertical leap.

If TT ever develops a consistent jump shot or post move, that would only be a bonus. And his free throw shooting looks like it will end up being on the right side of 80%, so he can effectively score by getting to the line.

by Granny Waiters on Jan 17, 2009 7:44 AM CST up reply actions

Oh

And I agree with your points 100%….just saying while LMA has great individual offensive games, he’s more a jump shooter and a damn good post jump shooter—that’s his Sheed-like strength and he’s had that out of the gate…..Tyrus might develop into a more well rounded scorer who would need the ball less and do a lot of little things on O that won’t show in the stats….

Tyrus is showing to be one helluva passer when he tries to just pass and not be way too fancy.

by majoyenrac on Jan 16, 2009 2:24 PM CST up reply actions

it's also worth noting that Tyrus is a year younger than LMA and has far less basketball experience

as he was a late starter in playing the game and really late at learning the big man game due to his very late growth spurt (just before college). He works his ass off and I think he’s going to bloom late in the NBA, but when he does it’s going to be great.

We need to build around

D-Rose and TT, just like MJ and Pip. I hope they work hard consistently and continue to be hungry.

by T2fan on Jan 16, 2009 12:33 PM CST up reply actions

I have to say one thing Chris Duhon did that was good was find Tyrus Thomas for alley oops

I think Rose needs to do a better job of finding Tyrus. The last play of the game Tyrus was wide open. Rose got fouled but still he should have thrown the lob to Tyrus.

by ImmanuelKant on Jan 16, 2009 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

Yup

Duhon was always looking for TT and was involved in at least two block and dunk sequences in TT’s rookie year (or 2nd year?) I believe.

I always thought T-Time projected as...

a sort of Kirilenko/KMart type of PF. He’s not Kemp and he’ s not Amare, but if he could put up All-Star season numbers like Kmart/AK47, he could still be very good as a defensive stopper, and lob dunker…

Five bucks says

VDN plays TT 18 minutes next game

by E-Grizzle on Jan 16, 2009 7:03 PM CST reply actions

And plays Gray

30 with Gooden 30 (after Gooden shakes off the ankle issues).
I mean we need size to compete with Duncan, nevermind that Duncan’s more athletic than Gray and a billion times quicker, when nobody’s in the post against gray, or if he’s in the post with the ball above his head and only has a smaller player like TJ Ford on him in the post, he might just then be quick enough to get a shot off and not rush it. THe rest of the time he either takes time to wind up, or if he has time he rushes the shot before he’s set because he thinks given his slowness it’ll be blocked….

Then I add that if he had the ball against TJ Ford, he’d lost it 8-10 to Ford because Gray would bring it down before going back up….
Sorry I had some things on my chest…

Last year

in an early game vs PHI (gm 2?) he rebounded and ran the floor (yes he did, SSkiles!) for an eventual alley oop. I don’t think it’s on YouTube, but the thing that amazed me was the “outlet pass”: Between the legs, either TT’s own or the defender’s… or both! TV replay didn’t show the WHOLE transition, just the lob pass → dunk. So I wasn’t totally sure I saw what I thought I saw.

I also remember JoeJoe on here saying he recorded the game at his father’s or grandfather’s. Maybe I should’ve asked for a copy, LOL!

Was I the only one last night that saw Rose miss some alley-oop oppurtunities?

Rose had at least two (easy) chances to toss an oop to TT and just spaced out or something. He needs to work on his vision a bit, if thats at all possible.

by dakoose on Jan 16, 2009 8:36 PM CST reply actions

If Tyrus

rolled to the rim twice last night, that makes it a total of maybe five times so far this year!

TT really needs to work on his s/r if teammates are gonna start looking for him (and I hope so).
