I think Kobe is better than LeBron

LeBron’s a monster but he settles for jumpers a lot when he’s not a pure jump shooter. We may find out for sure in the NBA finals this year.

by wilsoneads on Jan 15, 2009 7:11 PM CST up reply actions

LeBron is better than Kobe and it's not close and hasn't been for a couple years.

Now, factoring in the next level jump LeBron has made this year into MJ territory and his inspired defense this year, it’s ludicrous to even suggest that Kobe is better than LeBron and I just laugh at anyone who actually believes it.

by fundamentallysound on Jan 15, 2009 7:13 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Have to disagree

I think even LeBron would admit that Kobe’s better. I mean Lebron’s good and all. And he’s young so he gets all the hype, but when it comes down to actual basketball, Kobe is just more skilled.

by wilsoneads on Jan 15, 2009 7:19 PM CST up reply actions

You can make a strong argument

that Kobe isnt even in the top 3 MVPs this season. Perhaps 5th.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=jamesle01&y1=2009&p2=bryanko01&y2=2009

Look, in every statistical category whether it’s advanced stats or per-36 stats, LeBron is better. He’s a better passer, a better rebounder, a more efficient scorer (even with Kobe being the better shooter from distance), he gets more steals, gets more blocks, plays better defense. There’s really no objective argument. LeBron is the best player in the world. For context, LeBron’s 32.6 PER right now would put him ahead any of even MJ’s best seasons by PER. LeBron is AMAZING, Kobe is simply great. This is not meant to be a diss to Kobe, LeBron is just that amazing.

by fundamentallysound on Jan 15, 2009 7:22 PM CST up reply actions

Stats are interesting

But they just don’t tell you the whole story. Kobe’s won championships. LeBron’s been swept out of the finals. Sure Kobe had Shaq, but in those last 2 championships, Shaq was basically neutralized every fourth quarter cause of his free throws. Kobe took over and won those championships. Lebron looks like a robot when he shoots. Kobe’s just smooth. He’s selfish so the media hates him. Lebron’s nice so the media loves. Which directly influences how you feel about him – influencing you to think he’s a better player than he is. Lebron couldn’t even win the World Championships without Kobe on his team.

by wilsoneads on Jan 15, 2009 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

um... so if, say, dwight howard weren't with lebron the past three years...

he wouldn’t have been winning championships?

Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!

by tyger1147 on Jan 15, 2009 7:30 PM CST up reply actions

No, I actually hate LeBron personally. I think he's an arrogant douchebag, but

I appreciate his greatness. I also would prefer to watch Kobe because I agree that he’s smoother, but LeBron is better. LeBron has only been swept from the finals because he carried a team that had no business being there all the way to the finals by himself when he was just 22 (!) I don’t let my personal biases against players block me from appreciating greatness. LeBron is better even if he is a douche and his game isn’t as pretty as Kobe’s.

by fundamentallysound on Jan 15, 2009 7:31 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

All I'm saying

is that if the NBA blew up tomorrow, LeBron wouldn’t even be in the same discussion as Kobe. He’s accomplished nothing. It sucks but the way you’re judged in this league is winning championships. Period. Dominque Wilkins was an incredible scorer. Does anybody even remember that guy?

by wilsoneads on Jan 15, 2009 7:34 PM CST up reply actions

He's 24 and this is the first year he's had a competent supporting cast.

Jordan hadn’t won a title when he was 24 either and Kobe would have no rings if he hadn’t had the Big Fella in his prime.

by fundamentallysound on Jan 15, 2009 7:35 PM CST up reply actions

It does

We’re influenced by what happened yesterday and forget what happened 2 or 3 years ago. The Cavs are the hot team right now so of course Sportscenter’s going to jump on his back and start calling him the greatest player that ever lived. The guy hasn’t even won anything. And he’s been in the league six years. So this “24” stuff doesn’t matter. Personally, if you look at LeBron, it’s pretty clear that’s actually closer to maybe 27 or 28. Everybody in the league knows there’s something fishy going on there.

by wilsoneads on Jan 15, 2009 7:38 PM CST up reply actions

lol - I probably am a moron

taking 20 minutes out of my life to argue about LeBron vs. Kobe. But there’s definitely something fishy going on with Lebron’s age. And Carmelo’s even gone on record as saying he thinks he’s older than he says he is.

by wilsoneads on Jan 15, 2009 7:41 PM CST up reply actions

Uhh no

Lebron is 24, he’s not some unknown baseball player from Latin America or some small Island in the pacific. No way one of the biggest sports stars on the planet is lying about his age

I LOVE IT!!!!!!

SOMEBODY….I don’t know who…but SOMEBODY has been in Luol Deng’s ear. Told him he better get his sh*t together and start looking like somebody who wants to be a real ball player. I absolutely LOVE the sense of urgency and aggressiveness that Deng is playing with. It’s not immediately paying dividends, but if he keeps this up THEN we may indeed be one step closer to seeing the All-Star caliber player we saw in April/May of 2007.

I pray that we have seen the end of that soft as pie chump that was out there before and that this new look Deng is the guy we see for the next couple years.

What's this?

I was proposing a trade of Deng to the Jazz on various message boards. Jazz like Deng. But I haven’t heard anything about them being ready to trade Boozer.

is this legit?
