Game Preview / Open Game Thread #39: Bulls at Toronto Raptors

[Thanks to Goostafer for today's preview -ed.]

Tonight's game with the Toronto Raptors is probably going to frustrate a lot of us here at BlogABull. Recently Andrea Bargnani has been living up to the hype that got him drafted #1 overall just two years ago. Averaging Almost 20 and 7 in his last 8 games since taking over the Center position when Jermaine O'Neal went down. He is taking some of the pressure off of Chris Bosh. This team reminds me slightly of the Chicago Bulls. Two years ago, when the Bulls won 49 games, the Raptors won 47 and were 1st in the Atlantic Division. Then last year they regressed, as did the Bulls, and finished with a 41-41 record. Much better than Chicago's complete 180 of 33-49. Now this year both teams have a virtually identical record with Chicago having just lost one less game. Probably because the Bulls have played one less game. Both teams have new coaches, even though one has actually coached before and the other is busy making pretend to know what he's doing.

I don't want to turn this preview into a trade talk, but tonight the Bulls might be able to "Showcase" Nocioni and maybe even Kirk and Hughes as there have been rumors of an O'Neal for Noc + Fillers Swap. Maybe they'll play well enough for a trade to happen sooner than later....

Star-divide

While the Bulls welcomed back Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich, they will be without Drew Gooden (groin, ankle). Noah will replace him in the starting lineup and will be joined by Luol Deng after just one game back sending Thabo back to the bench, where he belongs. Now that's a lineup I can get used to.

Rose/Gordon/Deng/Tyrus/Noah.

The Raptors will again be without Jose Calderon and Jermaine O'Neal.

And it's good too see that Vinny is focusing on the good news instead of his sucky performance as a coach.

"It's good to have Kirk and Luol back," said Del Negro, now faced with the task of splitting up playing time between 11 healthy players averaging 15 minutes or more. "Now we have to work on our rotation, our minutes and our practice time and get back on track. ... You hope it will affect the team well, but you don't know.

Idiot.

-

I don't ask for much. Here are a few things I'm hoping to see in tonight's game:

Effort from everyone on the court wearing a Bulls Jersey, win or lose.

Rose taking it to the line.

Deng playing like he's expected to play.

A strong start AND an strong finish.

Jamario Moon not having a career game.

Will Solomon not having a career game.

Tyrus playing at least 30 mins.

And the obligatory – Less Hughes. Less Gray.

Hopefully Kirk and Deng are healthy enough to help this team get out of the nasty funk they are in at the moment. And I think the Raptors are a good help. Although I have a feeling that Bosh and Bargnani will kill our front court.

Enjoy the game!

Go Bulls!

They should at least make him a 6th man.

Making a mockery of him as a starter is worse than bringing him off the bench.

Although Hinrich will probably be starting in no less than 5 games.

That's a funny comment...

But really, the worst part is, it’s not supposed to be his strong suit. He’s supposed to be a communicator and motivator… I would be happy if I was seeing that… instead he keeps trying to convince people he can coach. I hate that, just do what you were hired for and let Del and Bernie handle the rest.

It’s like Tyrus trying to prove he can hit the 18 foot jumper, when everybody in Chicago begs him to stay by the hoop and catch ally oops and rebounds.

So obvious who needs to be getting the playing time game in game out. Noah is nice and active floating around, not being a Gooden-black hole.

What an great first quarter so far.

This lineup has been ideal. Props to VDN, even if i’m suspect of you.

Thomas and Noah are playing well together. Deng and Hinrich have fit in perfectly. We can wait for Ben to heat up. Rose is playing PG

Passing is great and nobodies playing selfish.

Let’s see how this continues.

But it's about the disrespect.

Although Hinrich does look really good. Tons of injury. Might as well just start a three guard lineup. You don’t lose anything going from Deng to Gordon at the 3 spot. And that’s not a praise on BG’s small forward defense.

If Deng is back.

Then he deserves to start, and get praised. But based on his performance over the past season and a half, it’s going to take more than 9 minutes to convince me that Deng’s back. Toronto’s a horrible defensive team, and it’s showing.

I still want to trade him, cause he makes to much to be a back-up, and he isn’t a long term answer at shooting guard, and he disrupt many of our 2010 plans…

But, I’m going to enjoy watching him play until February. Or the offseason.

He has to be raising his value rapidly.

Put Kirk with Gooden’s expiring contract and one of the young bigs, and that might be enough to get Carlos Boozer.

This play from Hinrich is great.

I can't belive Noah hasn't been back in yet It's not like he had 4 fouls

When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer

How sad is it that I turn the TV on mute and

listen to any other teams announcers, just because I know they can’t be more annoying than Funk and Stacey.

I'd like too,

ever since somebody post his pre-draft reports, I’ve wanted to see more of him. He is big and athletic, it seems like he should add something to our mix…

Light bulb turned on for Bargnani

Maybe he will be the next player to have a career game against the Bulls. :(

Gordon had a horrible first half

4 turnovers, 1-5 shooting, 2 rebs, and 2 assists 0 steals and 0 blocks, and 2 points… that’s just rubbish.

by fundamentallysound on Jan 14, 2009 7:16 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

bulls and rators are exactly the same

Is is a rule that you ahve to sit out the half if you have 3 fouls?
