Only 3 ways that Eddy comes back:

1 – This whole “gay sexual harrassment” thing gets thrown out the window
2 – He agrees to take the DNA test for his heart – AND PASSES IT
3 – Reinsdorf dies

I see 1 happening. I can possibly maybe even see 2 under the right circumstances. Anyone here want to take care of #3 for us?

I'd take Curry for Hughes

If the Knicks agreed to pay for both.

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 12:18 PM CST up reply actions

I can say this because I know Norm is right and it won't happen

But Hughes and Noc for Curry and Malik Rose would be a good thing from many perspectives.

If the Knicks threw in their pick, I can even almost but not quite imagine the Bulls doing it.

Do it

I’d take back Curry if that is what it takes to get rid of Noc.

Sam Smith says it’s never happening because of the heart stuff. But if Curry is saying he’s wants to come back that would change things.

X-nay

Curry’s inferior to Noc in every single way and makes more and is on the books too long.

We can get better for Noc (See Raps deals)….

Curry had his chance to take the heart test and retain $200K a year for 40 years or was it $400K a year for 20 years if he failed, or take the heart test and get a big contract…..

He tried to burn this org, he wasn’t worth that contract, but good ol Thomas gave him the contract and now the Knicks are doing better without him….

Good Riddance Curry. We dodged a bullet not giving him the huge contract.

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 12:53 PM CST up reply actions

How about

Hughes and Noc for Curry and Malik

Boozer for Gooden, Noah, and two first rounders

Hinrich, Deng, and Simmons for LaFrentz, Webster, Ike, Batnum

We get an allstar, cap relief for 2010, and youngsters, possibly resigning Gordon (in this economy for the MLE)….

I'd take Eddy in a heartbeat

For all the talk of his being a crappy defender, the Bulls ranked 2nd in defensive rating his last season with the Bulls when he played 28.7mpg. His lack of rebounding, especially paired with a similarly crappy rebounder in Tyrus, could be an issue.

But dear lord we could use his scoring. Just once I’d like to see Rose throw a bullet pass inside without it being juggled, bounced off a foot, and sent out of bounds. If we get Curry, that’ll be the first time we have three legit scorers since Jordan, Pippen, Grant. Not that they’re in the same universe. But I like our chances of making the playoffs.

by YaoPau on Jan 13, 2009 2:35 PM CST reply actions

Yeah

I’m sure Drew and Curry would be an awesome tandem, especially now that Curry’s 30lbs heavier….and even less eager to try to get better.

Drew’s a legit scorer, just can’t do anything else.

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 2:41 PM CST up reply actions

Despite the size and style difference, Gooden and Curry and similar in those respects.

I think you can have a good team, and even a good defensive team with one of those guys as your three primary bigs. But the other two have to be way above average defenders.

And on top of that, Curry would have to be in shape, which Gooden is.

and Gooden's a much much better rebounder

asking for Eddy Curry back should be a smell test for membership.

Couldn't disagree more

Gooden’s career TS: .515
Curry’s career TS: .582

That makes Curry the 9th most efficient scorer in the NBA. Gooden, on the other hand, needs to cut his cut his # of shots per game in half immediately.

by YaoPau on Jan 13, 2009 2:55 PM CST up reply actions

But everything else about Curry is awful

Just awful…..

I repeat AWFUL.

Gooden will find a role on any team for 6-7 more years. Curry’s likely out of the game.

Run the TO rates over the same time frame,
Run the rebounds
Even on D, Gooden is a billion times better and he makes less, significantly less.

Even if D. Gooden made the same, he’d still be better.

Eddy’s a wasted talent, could have and should have been the Baby Shaq, but now he’s finally being treated the way his effort was to the fans who paid big money to watch him play….

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

I blame Krause for much of Curry's underachievment..

Pairing Curry with Brand would have taken the responsibility for carrying the team off the unready shoulders of Curry. In addition, the coaching of Floyd is only rivaled in Bulls history by B*yl*n for ineptitude.

by Granny Waiters on Jan 13, 2009 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah but

Chandler was a better player than Curry was and is….

Still fair and good point. Tyson never quite lived up to the potential. Hell I think I saw scouting reports 2-3 years ago on Tyson say they saw the offensive skills were there and were worried about some of the defense….not that exactly but something along those lines….

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 9:49 PM CST up reply actions

I didn't say

Drew is the most efficient scorer, I said he’s a legitimate scorer in this league and he is, and his numbers on the O side have proven that when healthy in a role without Lebron…

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 3:59 PM CST up reply actions

What numbers?

All he’s proven is he needs to be benched to be effective.

by YaoPau on Jan 13, 2009 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

Um Gee

I don’t know 13-16 pts a game….that’s not shabby at all (16pts per 40 min) with an 86% FT percentageand 9.1 boards a game.

Drew’s shooting %‘s are down compared to other PF’s because he’s not a true PF on offense. He’s more a SF with a PF/C build…..

But yeah, he’s not the best scorer in the league, but he’s a very efficient scorer for his game…..

He would be much better if say we had a 2004 era Wallace esque defender (or a Camby, or a Chandler, or etc etc etc because he can get you points, but more because he can grab boards—being a bit more athletic than his bigger build would indicate).

He’s just not an elite PF and has very little post skills, but again if he had any of that he’d be making a good $13-15M a year instead of $7M.

He can’t defend too….well he can defend, but doesn’t. He should be much better there and every few games he’ll have a very good defensive game.

He is effective at what he does, but he’s being asked to do too much.

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 4:43 PM CST up reply actions

"very efficient scorer for his game"

what are you talking about.

Please don’t confuse 13-16ppg for being a good scorer. Larry Hughes scores 13-16ppg.

by YaoPau on Jan 13, 2009 5:45 PM CST up reply actions

exactly

against Portland it took him 20 shots to get 22 pts…nothing about Drew is efficient. He thinks that he’s way better than what he really is and he ends up hurting the offense with his shot selection and constantly being a black hole.

BTW

YaoPao, typically like your analysis…the moron comment is on this point (don’t take it permantently personal)….

But ragging on Drew for getting 13.6PPG season on 11 shots would mean you should rag on Dirk for getting 25.3 PPG on 19.8 shots…

Take Dirk’s shots up to 30 per game and he’d avg 38.3PPG with the same trends

Take Drew’s up to that same 30 and he’d avg 34.3PPG.

Take out the superstar foul effect on Dirk’s game and even that out closer to Drew’s and their closer (We all know superstar’s get tthe benefit of the doubt on calls)….

Then consider salaries…Dirk’s making 18M probably thereabouts….Drew’s making 7.1M….

I didn’t even try to research any other PF’s, just grabbed the first and post outside PF I could think of and here’s what we got on the offensive end.

I’m not about to say Drew’s in Dirk’s category he aint….Dirk’s in my top 10 easy….Drew, eh not so much….but match Drew with a star PF or C and voila he’s more than effective, ESPECIALLY for the price….and to say he’s not an efficient offensive player is just plain silly…that’s all he’s good for.

by majoyenrac on Jan 13, 2009 10:01 PM CST up reply actions

Wuh?

And if you are being sarcastic, nice response, given that the argument I gave was very reasonable to discuss Drew’s Offense.

I can’t believe anyone would say he’s bad on offense, he ain’t. He’s awful on D, and his game doesn’t suit our needs, but Drew’s a solid NBA starter because of his offensive skills. He was a better fit even in Cleveland than he is here, and his stats suffered a bit the last year in Cleveland because they hated his D, though his offensive game would work better next to a solid big like Big Z.

Plus I think they really wanted Wallace (for James’s sake given Wallace’s hype and friendship with James)…..and I think Pax bargained for Drew considering he was on our radar for quite some time.

by majoyenrac on Jan 14, 2009 8:41 AM CST up reply actions

Dirk is one of the most efficient scorers in the league

Drew isnt even that close to the top on this team. Drew is moderately effective on offense. He brings something on the offensive end no one else on this team really does, but if he improved his shot selection then he could improve his and our teams efficiency.

by reprisal on Jan 14, 2009 12:13 PM CST up reply actions

I can be a moron sometimes :)

But this isn’t one of them.

First off, we have to include free throws when comparing points per attempt. As far as points per offensive attempt go (with free throws counting for about half an attempt each since you get two), Dirk for his career gets 1.164 points per attempt. Drew for his career gets 1.030.

Instead of your example of 30 attempts, let’s scale it to 13.5, approximately the # of attempts for Gooden per game. With 13.5 attempts, Gooden would score on average 13.9ppg while Dirk would score 15.7ppg.

That 1.8ppg represents a HUGE difference from simply changing the efficiency of 13.5 attempts per game. Consider the point differentials for the following teams: Dallas is +1.5 per game, yet is 22-16. Phoenix is +2.1 per game, yet is 22-13. Atlanta is +1.3, yet is 22-15.

Change those 13.5 attempts to Dirk’s 23.1per game and you’re looking at a +3.1 differential, which can be the difference between a non-playoff team and a #4 seed. Drew is costing us games with his inefficient scoring.

And you can’t just take out a superstar’s foul effect :) That’s a legitimate benefit, not a made up one.

by YaoPau on Jan 14, 2009 2:25 PM CST up reply actions

Yao Pao

You are a moron. 13-16 PPG for a guy making 7.1m or something along those lines, with 9.1 boards is a good scorer and rebounder in the league for his position…..

I really don’t get the crap, I’m not saying he’s a star….but he’s doing well for his $$….

I’m also not saying he’s a nice fit for our defenseless team, but if we had a true post defender to pair with him, hell yeah I’d like _rew for the $7M mark…
