Is it time to bring back Boy*#n?
VDN has our only legitimate defender on the bench. Thabo was too effective to get back on the floor. Tyrus has been completely shut out of our so-called offensive sets. Rose keeps getting burned, but I still love him. If Luol continues to play so poorly, we will have to start calling him _eng.
What would a real coach do with this mess?
If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Vinny is the classic example of a cluesless, stubborn loser.
He is no better than B%$l#An. At least the former retard actually got to sit next to Skiles long enough to learn something. Vinny makes me sick. Tyrus, Thabo rot on the bench as the Bulls once again, have a complete 4th quarter collapse with their veteran non-defending, non-rebounding veterans.

My god he sucks!
Even though he’s got 7 pts, goes 1-5 (with a desperation 3pointer at the end of the third which shouldn’t count), 4 rebounds, 2 assist, a block and drew 2 charges, his -16 proves he sucks the most!

he got torched all night by Outlaw and did his best hacking of everyone, even when simple good D
would have been enough to stop the shot. He’s a disaster on D.
by fundamentallysound on Jan 12, 2009 9:54 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Except he wasn't the main man guarding Outlaw.
Outlaw scored 25 points in 34 minutes, about 12 mins more (or a full quarter) more than Noce has played.
Also, Noce was on LMA a lot of times so I’m guessing we’re counting both LMA and Outlaw’s points against Noce? Man, the man on OUtlaw sure had it easy, knowing Noce was gonna get the blame for Outlaw’s points.

Oh right...
That’s why you said Outlaw torched him all night long.
But now, Im guessing Noce got torched by Outlaw (33), LMA (8pts), Oden (17pts) and Przbilla (2pts).
Heck let’s throw in Blake (16pts) and Roy (11pts) as well.
Damn! Noce gave up 87pts to 6 players? Trade him to the Raptors!

I don't think you want Outlaw
not a better defender (just loses his man, all the time, and poor with defensive rotations), a streaky shooter, a black hole on offense. A frustrating player. go to Blazers Edge and read back a week at the Trade Travis posts. A game winning shot and tonight’s game have swung it in the other direction, for the time being. Games like this don’t come that often

He is certainly not LaRue Martin
but he’s been in the league six years and still gets lost in the zone, loses his man on the perimeter, forgets to box out (a big problem when he at the 4). He has spurts of defensive concentration, spurts of great shooting. As for the help defense, how many blocks is he getting this year? Compare him to the beleagured Tyrus Thomas of the Bulls, comparable size and leapability. TT help defends.
I’m not knocking what he does – but he is not the cure for what ails the Bulls

I agree that there are nights that leave me frustrated,
but he really has been showing improvement on alot of those areas that have caused two fist sized bald spot on the sides of my head. The assist is kinda tricky, since its only telling the story of “Made” shot imediatly after the pass, with out any other dribble. I watch almost every game at least twice, and sometimes more,(basicly to look for what others complain about or double check any of my own observations, and it another round of fun) and i promise you that hes been passing the ball. He’s also been looking for rebounds quite a bit more as well, but not nessassaraly boxing out. at any rate, the guy can ball. But im still not completely relaxed with him on the court unless its late in the fourth. He fricking shines bright when the game matters. Fingers crossed he keeps this up.

the Blazers are the jocks, and they somehow all got to be on the same team. The Bulls are the “other” guys: Nocioni is the foreign guy that plays really hard even though he doesn’t really know the rules, Gooden is the annoying tall guy who pays no attention on defense and thinks he can shoot so he just stands around waiting to get the ball so he can jack up another jumper, Hughes is the guy who everybody knows is garbage but he hogs the ball anyway and shoots every time he touches the ball, Deng is just the average tall guy that never really played any sports but just runs around and manages not to make any difference in the result either way.
Just fuck this whole team, except Rose.

I wanna make one thing very clear here.
Let Derrick Rose play a whole season before you call him the franchise. He’s good but he has a lot to work on. Like his Jump shot and knowing when to be a leader. Derrick Rose has his little tantrums a lot do you ever see those? Not good when your a point guard. You need to be composed at all times.
This wasn’t directed at any comments here I just have noticed he can be a bit of a cry baby.

I know I think it's fair.
He’s not played very well but he will get a pass. He misses people who are open down low like Tyrus or Noah.
I see it every game there’s somebody open by the basket but he’s too busy dribbling and then like waves them off. Um no a point guard should laser that to Noah’s gut. Rose has some flaws. I don’t always like his body language either. It’s gotten progressively worse.

I remember Stacey King talking about Tyrus not being satisfied with his offensive production and he said the important part was he was playing good defense. I think he should of directed that to Vinny since he was the one sitting Tyrus again.

Pax said there is not enough ball movement and teamwork and the players immediately respond.
Tyrus Thomas gets zero shots and then gets benched in spite of providing solid defense.
Thabo goes 4 for 6, plays solid defense and grabs 8 rebounds but gets only 18 minutes.
Noah (& Gray) are the only Bulls with positive (+/-). They log 8 and 6 minutes.
Bulls definition of teamwork:
Larry Hughes = Black Hole
Ben Gordon = Black Hole
Drew Gooden = Black Hole
Andreus Nocioni = Black Hole
Vinny DelNegro’s brain = Black Hole

That's exactly what I said last game thread
The blatant attitude of “F the team, I’m getting mine” is the worst part of watching this group. I’d have this much tolerance of derailing the team’s goals: one too quick ill-advised shot, I pull you immediately and tell you about it. Second offense, hit the showers, you’re done tonight.
Pax, in his soft-spoken manner, wasn’t the least bit unclear about this issue. VDN (or somebody) has to say, this is about the Chicago Bulls; check your personal agendas at the door. I will bring in 5 d-leaguers and lose 82 games, but there is not going to be one minute of PT for anyone to showcase themselves. I’m beginning to think my wild idea of bringing in Bobby Knight wasn’t that wild.

But wouldn't that bring out a whole new set of problems?
What separates a bad shot from Rose from a bad shot from Gordon?
If DRose shoots it, it’s motivated by the “team concept” if Gordon shoots it, it’s from selfishness? Drose did drive and miss a lot (when he could have dumped it or kicked it out). Im assuming that’s still unselfish basketball, but only because Rose did it? If Gordon or Hinrich did it, it’s selfishness?
by PatBull on Jan 13, 2009 3:12 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Did I in any way say that one is selfish and one's not?
You need scorers, and selfishness is a necessary part of that persona. MJ is the model for scorers. He made the same decisions BG or any other scorer does to “take over”. The difference was that more often than not, he was successful. But even Michael had to be reigned in occasionally. And with age, his sense of timing and cooperation got better. Therefore, his “selfishness” was an asset to the team and generated winning bball. But when Phil first announced that MJ’s scoring and minutes needed to be reduced for the sake of the team, his response was lukewarm: “We’ll see how it works out”. It worked, happily ever after.
What I’m talking about is the scenario where 5 guys come downcourt to run a set offense. Ball comes over half court and the first pass is made. For no particularly good reason, that player puts it up, contrary to what the coach, the GM, the fans and the other 11 players had in mind. That’s poor basketball. And Vinnie’s response is to get depressed. And that, my friend, is a big part of why I see the team spiralling downward out of control.
There are three players who are in a career situation where the team’s success probably gains nothing for them, and their losses probably don’t mean jack: BG, Hughes and Gooden. Noc has deteriorated. In BG’s case, it can be argued that it’s at least half mgt’s fault. And he’s easily the most prolific scorer of the bunch, so he does and should wear the “scorer’s” mantle.
So how do you coach a team where so many in your rotation aren’t necessarily playing for the Bulls any more? Obviously, you need to have the strength to stand up to anti-team behavior in ways other than fining them for petty infractions like headbands and sandwiches. Bobby Knight was just a caricature and embodiment of a coach who won’t tolerate contrarian behavior on the court. When we all see VDN holding his head and leaving the offenders on the court, or hear how B*^$# was literally afraid to say anything to Wallace, it makes me wish for a coach who at least had the balls to confront that crap. Or a player who would. Either way, the message has to be 100 consisten: this all about the team; check your personal agendas at the door.

Actually, Matt, I've always found Knight to be a bore as a speaker
But read my post above; I see a need for someone who will confront anti-team behavior in a right here, right now manner. If you weren’t supposed to take a contested long two 7 seconds into the clock, you should get the appropriate feedback right now. A flying folding chair is preferred to seeing the coach burying his head in his hands. Hell, even Zenmeister called out MJ or Shaq or Kobe from time to time. VDN seems to only be able to confront players on a rookie contract.
As a secondary argument in defense of a Knight type: do you think he’d have any tolerance of the Paxdork non-action this far into this year?

Yeah, but I wasn't too big on Skiles being the problem
From what I’ve gathered, Skiles lost the team because he wouldn’t stand up to Wallace. I guess it’s a conspiracy theory on everyone’s part as to why he wouldn’t stand up to Wallace, but i don’t believe the various stories that he was “afraid”. Skiles is the guy who once challanged Shaq to a fight, no? Does it make any sense that he’d be afraid to tell Wallace what’s what?
My thinking is that management basically told Skiles, or implied to him, “hey, we just paid $60M for this guy, you need to work with him”. And so Skiles accommodated him and lost his authority.
That doesn’t mean I think Skiles was perfect. He definitely fucked up Chandler and possibly scapegoated Tyrus. But looking back, I think the basic thing I see is that the Skiles was the glue of this team. And I don’t see any reason that he would have suddenly just started taking Wallace’s shit. It really doesn’t seem like his personality to do so. Perhaps that’s why he was more than willing to quit?
He looked at the situation and said “look, you brought me in to coach this team, you gave me this player who doesn’t respect me, and you’re tying my hands as to what I can do about it. F this”
The obvious comparison would be to Jerry Sloan. For several years, Skiles was to the Bulls as Jerry Sloan is to the Jazz. I wonder if Greg Ostertag is comparable to Tyson Chandler in that sense? He and Sloan eventually kissed and made up.
But yeah, what makes Jerry Sloan be Jerry Sloan is being in charge. The moment they let someone in that locker room be the boss will be the first time. The Bulls pretty clearly let that happen with Wallace, and I’d be shocked if Skiles were some sort of willing enabler to that.

by Sports2 on Jan 13, 2009 10:38 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well there have been a lot of coaching changes this year so far...
I really can’t say how good or bad Vinny is as a coach, but it seems that Skiles is/was better. Maybe he needed a bit of flexibility at times. I can’t imagine Chicago would suffer through to many more bad seasons without yet another coaching change.
Anyway, as far as fan from other fanbases visiting your website. I sort of thought that was what SB NAtion was about to some extent. Fans for other cities sharing thoughts about basketball and various games, players, etc. I agree trolling and inflammatory comments are in bad taste, especially when the other team is winning.
Some impressions. Rose is a good players and will be great. Hinrich seems like a good role player and starter in the right situation. Nocioni seems like a good role player. Gooden can be adequate on offense, but looks slow on defense. BG is a good offensive player. Gray and Noah…an upgrade can’t be that hard soon can it? Thabo, yes, more of him.
Deng seems to be about as good as he is going to get. No offense, but after Rose, I don’t see any marquis players. I read that TT was doing pretty well when given consistent minutes. Perhaps the staff needs to take a more dedicated approach in developing him better. Which brings me to Larry hughes. From the outside in, I don’t understand the hate for Hughes. Is it his play or demeanor? or both?
This isn't the Lakers,...
