Hinrich and Deng returing tonight.
[Showcasing? heh. I'm glad they're both back (I can confirm I heard it during the updates on 670AM) Even if Hinrich barely plays it's minutes that Lindsey Hunter can't. And it gives some reason to be any kind of excited to go to the game tonight -ed.]
Mike Murphy reported on 670 The Score that Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng will both be active for tonight's game. He said that Hinrich's minutes will be limited to about 15. No word on Vinny's reaction.

yipee?!?
i look forward to the Rose-Hinrich-Gordon-Hughes-Nocioni line-up in the 4th. I’m betting Hinrich shuts down Aldridge and Nocioni gets under Oden’s skin.

What about a 5 guard lineup
Surely Hinrich can cover LMA-Oden-Pryzbilla all by himself, so we might be able to have Hughes cover Roy and then have Rose-BG and Thabo’s versatility give us the competitive adv we need.

I apologize in advance
Win or lose, there are so many more Blazer fans online than any other team (at least, it feels that way) that someone will come over and say something dumb. We can’t possibly have more sheer numbers, just more people who don’t like to go outside.
I get especially annoyed when someone does it over at a Bulls site because, uh… you guys got a few trump cards to use on us in any argument.

If he ever has the same injury a few times
We can worry.
None of his ouchies are reoccuring (this reply is written as if you weren’t joking, and since a lot of people say the same thing I’ll read it as serious). They are one n’ done injuries: wrist, tonsils, microfracture. And, none bother him right now, which is a big deal with the micro.
(I don’t think the sprained ankle really counts as an ‘injury’, since every single player gets a sprained ankle and it is a normal NBA ouchie— but that too is just one of those things).
His biggest problem now is not doing any dumb fouls, which he’s getting better at but still EXTREMELY prone to. When he gets to play, he’s been good. He just has waaaaaaay too many 14 minute outings because he bumped a guard out by the 3 point line like a big silly head.
His rebounding has been dominant, at the very least. He just can’t stay on the floor!
If he didn’t have extra skin on his face, which gives the appearance of wrinkles, I don’t think people would worry so much about getting injured.

What a Bulls fan should do
Is head over, en masse, to a established Raptor’s fan site, or form a new one, and really start a groundswell of support for Larry Hughes. Act like he’s a fan favorite, the last piece to playoff dominance!
The Raptors HQ, who scan the fan blogs like all teams do these days, will see the massive support for Hughes, and want to do right by the fans. They know the price is hefty, but it expires at the right time and will give them the athletic wing they crave— plus, they’re doing it in the name of the fans!
How could it not work?

I think the trick would be
Not to make it TOO silly, nothing overboard. Say stuff like:
"Yeah, Hughes doesn’t have a steady jumpshot, but we have so many great shooters on the Raptors we can absorb his streaky outside game— and the new element he gives us with his solid slashing offense, and the plays he can create while penetrating, really gives us a new element we have lacked for YEARS.
Plus, we’d finally have an athletic wing who can guard the other team’s best player (I’m so sick of seeing Parker get destroyed by the Kobes and Wades of the world!!), and even play backup PG for Calderon.
Larry hasn’t been able to find the right situation for him since leaving the Bullets. Some players are great in any situation, and where they are/who coaches them/their teammates don’t matter. I won’t lie to you, dear Raptor fan reading this, Larry isn’t that sort of player. He needs to be in the right situation.
But as God is my witness, Toronto is the right situation and we need Larry Hughes if we’re going to go anywhere in the playoffs.
Plus, his contract is 2010 friendly, so this would be a gain on and off the court.
BRING LARRY HOME TO TORONTO!"
That’s how I would do it, maybe take out the “God is my witness” part. Anyone can steal that if they like, just add some new wrinkles and re-post it a million times till the Raptors are convinced it is a legion of Raptor fans crying for it.
Before you know it, this horrible nightmare of the last 3/4s of a season will be washed away, and you’ll be cheering Joey Graham and Chris Humphries and filler in no time!

Okay this is now weird
Is anybody else getting the feeling that Kirk is being rushed back? Just the other day it was reported that he was a week or two away. Then a day or two ago, it was reported that he would be back on Thursday against the Cavs. NOW it’s being reported that he’ll be active tonight. I have a hard time believing that his hand is healing THAT fast.
He just said the other day that he still wasn’t catching balls in practice yet..just shooting.
I get the feeling that Pax and/or Vinny sat him down and gave him the good ol’ “PLEASE come back we NEED you NOW…to save our jobs…so you can help the team” speech.
I know sue and picco will think I don’t want him back, but I actually do. It just seems strange that he’s had this super fast healing in a matter of days.

Tom is a good guy. But the other folks who come around aren’t, and frankly, I don’t particularly care to distinguish between good natured gloating and hostile gloating. It amounts to gloating, and it’s intent is to be a jerk. Smiling or not, you’re still being a jerk, and your presence is still meant as an irritant to others – specifically, to others who are already frustrated by their teams play.
People take it too far. Enjoy your team. Enjoy your team with fellow fans. But when it becomes about making other people feel worse…

I was actually here when that happened and told the person this isn’t the same site and it is okay…
I think they just thought since it was a SBN site, swearing wasn’t allowed, but still… I don’t think blog policing should be done by guests.
The “please don’t swear this is a family blog” still makes me cringe. I can’t remember who said it, but they just didn’t know.
In the online world, because of the Blazers large internet community and the Bulls large internet community, and the parallel storylines and youth movements and reliance on draft picks in similar years, the Bulls and Blazers have become rivals in the fan community alone when on the court they don’t have much reason to be rivals… but mostly just because one is in the East and one is in the West.
It is funny to me. Blazers Edge and Blog a Bull make this a bigger game than it normally should be, for both clubs.

Hah, you're missing out on some prime-time stuff lately my friend
You can say all you want that “half a season of Bradley is ‘better’ than a full season of Abreu or Dunn”, and statistically speaking, you’d be right. But Bradley can’t win games for his team when he’s hurt
It’s like his own version of a paradox.

Does anyone else here get the feeling that the only reason Luol is coming back tonight
is because Hinrich was about to expose him as the softest player on the planet? Think about it, Hinrich is coming back a month early from a serious hand injury, while the the General of the Salvation Army is currently crying in the corner over his ninth career threatening ankle sprain. He HAD to come back.

I didn't say he was faking at all.
I’m sure he has an ankle sprain, but a normal player would have the ability to play through the pain. Luol cannot do that and I really dislike him and probably won’t get over it.
by Juiceboxjerry on Jan 12, 2009 3:48 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
this is complete crap.
oh yes, let’s have the players risk further injury and jeopardize their careers! awesome!
there’s a difference between playing through pain for an important game, and another for an injury that would be fine with just resting a couple weeks. because like the team was playing so well with him to begin with.

Drew Gooden's been doing it the past few games!
Ask any doctor, you can’t get injured further by playing on a sprained ankle, it’s just a quesion of pain tolerance

i'm not bashing you
it just my base positioin to believe a player when they say they are injured unless there is real incentive for them not to play. There is no incentive for Deng not to play, so I’ll assume he is/was just waiting until healthy

Ever hear of overcompensating for an injury? That is how you get chronic issues.
by JeffD on Jan 12, 2009 6:30 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I was just watching Kendall Gill on the pregame show and
he said: “Luol Deng needs to start toughing it out a little more with these injuries. Sometimes you have to play hurt in the NBA…”. I don’t know you personally, but I’m guessing you didn’t play in the NBA, so I’ll take Kendall’s opinion over yours. 90% of these players have some sort of little injury that they’re “overcompensating” for. It’s the ones that can do that and still perform that I want on my team.
by Juiceboxjerry on Jan 12, 2009 7:20 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
And I will take the medical staff's opinion over Kendall Gill's
Kendall has the same medical degree as I do.
Its just stupid to speculate on the severity of an injury or the toughness of a player when you have no idea.
by JeffD on Jan 12, 2009 7:39 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I couldn't agree with you more.
Once again, my issue is not with injured players needing to “toughen up”, I don’t subscribe to that type of thinking. I have absolutely zero evidence to support any of my claims, but I just have a feeling that Luol is taking a little longer than necessary.
by Juiceboxjerry on Jan 12, 2009 7:45 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs

I doubt
We’re rushing Kirk….maybe he’s just ready, I saw him say he was eyeing an early return the start of last week.
Kirk’s never to my knowlege really had a big injury. I think he was hurt for a week or so last year (who wasn’t) and he had that flu as a rookie that cost him the start os his career….maybe Kirk doesn’t realize what the grind might do if he’s not ready, or he’s more a leader than given credit for and saw the rudderless ship’s rudder drop last game…..and feels as good as he normally would in Jan/wants to compete.
by majoyenrac on Jan 12, 2009 3:56 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
But Gordon
Has a reason to do it…..he didn’t want to risk injury during preseason and tried to make a point of his impact (point taken). Deng has nothing to say for it.
Though I saw Deng’s injury this time and did think it was rough….a rough ankle sprain.

At least one guy over at BE got it right
Been awhile since I checked out the Bulls but I think you’re seriously underrating noah, and thomas to a lesser extent. Noah isn’t much of a scorer, but he’s a good presence in the middle. He’s third in PER and first in WinScore on that team but 10th in playing time per game. Not that I’ve caught them that much this season but in the few games I saw, I saw the same thing – good things happen for that team when he’s in.
Aaron Gray on the other hand also shows well in WinScore and low in PER, and he’s pretty wretched, especially on defense where he’s so slow that he’s a serious liability. I feel like I’m watching a team tanking when I see him in the game, and the fact that he’s started more games than Noah indicates to me that the problem with the team remains coaching and leadership, not players.

They were talking about the Bulls and their game tonight. Now these are their words not mine. Kap said he does not think Vinny will be back next year. He said he heard from a Bulls source who said a repspected player on the team (wasn’t Hughes or Noah) told the source the team does not like Vinny because he is mean. It came from Kaplan so take it for what it’s worth.

Kap said he would be “shocked” if Vinny was back next season… then told a story about an NBA player, who had a friend on the Bulls, (Kap later qualifies that it’s not Noah, and that it’s a respected player) the Bulls player told his friend, that “We have the most clueless coach in the NBA”
That’s pretty bad, but then, he is the most inexperienced coach in the NBA, so who can be that surprised.
