CSKA did not negotiate with Gordon
[From the Fanshots. Heh. Can anyone out there help with the translation? -ed.]
Turns out his someone is not telling the truth...The GM of CSKA says its a dirty newspaper trick and newspaper columnist say Gordon's agent asked them to plant the story...? This is getting ridiculous...

Actually
“This is a dirty newsprint duck – said Vatutin.”
LOL. Even if it’s the Russian GM that’s lying (gee, that’d be a first… a Russian lying!?! ), the fact that he’d be lying about it at this point means Gordon’s agent couldn’t close a deal. Which means, basically, ouch for Gordon.
I predict he has a new agent by the end of the Summer.

As reported yesterday by the Greek media, defender of “Chicago Bullz” Ben Gordon (25 years, growth 191 см 191 cm , 18,6 очка в среднем за игру чемпионата НБА-2007/08) ведет переговоры с ЦСКА. , An average of 18.6 points per game championship NBA-2007/08) is negotiating with CSKA.
Wow, no one’s ever referred to Gordon as a “defender” before.

better translation
the term защитник literally means ‘defender’ as of a castle or the country. it is a literal translation of the term guard. so don’t get your hopes up thinking that someone, somewhere values ben gordon’s defense. i spent some time yesterday searching for anything related to this rumor in the russian media and wasn’t able to find a single thing. sounds like gordon’s agent is pretending like he some eastern promises.
As was reported yesterday by Greek media, Chicago Bulls’ guard Ben Guard (25 y.o., 191 cm, 18.6 ppg during the 2007/08 NBA season) is conducting negotiations with CSKA.
We spoke with basketball analyst Nickos Zabaros from the newspaper Fos, where the shocking information was published.
Such was Nicos’ commentary: "This article appeared after communication with Ben Gordon’s agent, who wants an increased salary for his client in Chicago. The agent decided to find a job for Gordon on a different team in the NBA, in agreement with the collective bargaining agreement. And, at that moment, according to the agent, interest in his client was shown by CSKA, who was prepared to pay the American $5.5 million USD per season and both sides found themselves at the negotiating table.
For the sake of clarification, correspondent Kirill Zangalis turned to the general director of CSKA, Andrei Batitin.
“This is yellow journalism,” said Batitin. “We did not conduct such negotiations with Gordon. In the given moment, nearly all our employees are on vacation. I myself am on a trip in France and haven’t heard anything about Ben Gordon.”

Unbelievable
Gordon is back to he has one offer. His choice is Bulls at 59 mil or nothing. Hmmm, which way is he going to go? He should thank the Bulls for their willingness to overpay him at 59 mil.

as it’s his себя завышенные впечатление о себе. И то, что он думает, высокие оценки в среднем причине он должен платить больше, чем кто-либо другой по команде.
Whoa, that’s wierd. What I meant was it’s his self inflated impression of himself. And the fact that he thinks a high scoring average is the reason he should be paid more than anyone else on the team.

He's in the NBA
where everyone thinks very highly of themselves as the norm. And he does shoot well. Arguably better than anyone else on the team. And having the highest score at the end of the game is how you win. His opinion of himself isn’t completely unfounded. He has seen his teammates (Noc, Hinrich, Deng) all get paid more than they are “worth”. He is the guy left after the money has “run out” but he is little different than the others when it comes to what he wants. He just has unfortunate timing.

not the players faults
Kirk is a starting PG who when signed was coming off a good year, was still young , plays both ends of the court decently, and signed a contract that goes down over time which helps as salary cap goes up – saying he was paid more than he was “worth” is such a big stretch
not Kirk’s fault that Ben will not take whatever Bulls offered, nor is it his fault the Bulls don’t offer more
its also not fair to say Kirk is overpaid due to Rose, obviously Kirk signed contract before Rose was on Bulls so off course Kirk got paid like a starting PG which he was
personally I’m not a Kirk or Ben fan, I’m a Bulls fan, hopefully this all works out for the team, I do think Bulls need a great 3pt shooter/scorer
(I ranted on Kirk, but even with me thinking that Deng is not going to improve much more, I would think the consensous is that his contract was fair)

You sure
extrapolated a lot from one sentence. I’m not even sure where the Rose comments came from. From what I remember is that almost everyone thought Hinrich was overpaid when he signed. Not to say people were not happy to have him sign since it was so last minute and we had Duhon as our other PG option, but it was high. I thought it was high at the time and Kirk was my favorite player going into that year. Hinrich made 11.5 mil that first year. He hasn’t found his game since. The only thing the contract had going for it was it decreased as it went. Supposedly in order to get Deng and Gordon signed. Haha, right?

I don't blame either side for there stance.
The Bulls want to drag it out and why not? Why outbid your self?
Gordon wants to drag it out and try to get as much money as possible, why not? He’s trying to get paid and if it means a couple thousand extra at the end of the day, why not?
He’s not being arrogant. He’s just playing the game.

I fear this is all my fault.
I laughed at the Cavs situation with Varajao last summer – now the basketball karma gods are getting even.
I will repent immediately, which I’m sure will resolve the whole situation and Ben will promptly sign the offer and give a long press conference in which he states that there was never a doubt in his mind that he would remain a Bull and he couldn’t ask for more than the generous salary and long term security he now has. And the whole team will be there, and Vinny will lead them in a lovely round of Kumbaya.
Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!

This merely accentuates the desperation of Gordon's camp.
They’re generating false rumors about some obscure Russian basketball club in an attempt to secure a semblance of leverage.
It’s pathetic.

Gordon is definitely losing the
public opinion war. if Gordon was this desperate for a larger contract (and by larger contract, 1/2 mil per) he should have taken the QO like Deng threatened to do.

If Gordon was willing to take the $59 million, that the deal would be signed and the agent would happily take his cut. Gordon is the decision maker here.

Gordon gains nothing by signing the contract now
since it isn’t going anywhere. He can only hope the Bulls blink, and up their offer.
I think they will – slightly – as a prelude to a move that gets them back under the luxury tax. But I also think that will happen at the last possible moment.

and Gordon should have taken the generous offer he was made last year. Consistency is what teams need and Gordon is about as inconsistent as it gets, Bulls are better off without him.

funny as it sounds
I think there’s actually some truth in that. If I was the GM of a team, I’d find it hard to value a guy like Gordon who’s pretty streaky. Much easier to pay for someone and build a team when you know what you’re going to get night in and night out, even if that means making the choice to drop someone who’s consistently bad. Hence Deng gets the money and Gordon doesn’t.

Matt, I'm not cracking wise
Is there any room in your thinking for the Bulls to be able to turn the combination of Gordon’s rejected $60 mil along with Gooden’s expiring deal, Kirk and Noc’s trade value and Hughes’ 2010 expiring into a top shelf SG? I mean, a lot of good SG’s have come into the league the past couple of years; surely one of them is going to be in the market soon enough to pair up w Rose. Or are you that down on Paxdorf to preclude them making the right moves? They did pull the trigger on Wallace when he appeared to be our ticket to title contention. How does “Rose to Durant for the three” sound? Kid can’t really want to spend his life in Oklahoma, can he?

What good SGs have come into the league?
Brandon Roy?
Durant has pretty much been acknowledged to be a 3 who’s playing the 2 because they don’t have any good 2s in OKC.
But beyond that, the Thunder would be absolutely goofy to trade him. I mean, why the hell would they?
The reason to be down on Paxdorf is that they’ve made the wrong, wrong, wrong moves. Signed the wrong players, drafted the wrong players. Resigned the wrong players. Cut it however you want, they’ve just made bad decisions.
And I think it’s being pretty charitable to they were going for broke with Wallace. They simply weren’t. They immediately followed up that “going for broke” move with a salary dump!

Nah, I don't have any fantasies about being a GM
BTW, you’re one of my favorite posters here. I just happen to believe in the big three theory, and I don’t think the trio of Deng, Gordon and Rose is quite good enough. Rose, yes. Deng or Gordon, yes. But I really think they need a top shelf acquisition, and it doesn’t have to be at the 2.

you don't have to believe an upgrade is unnecessary
but having Deng&Gordon is a better way to position ones self to get that ‘top shelf’ player than having just one, IMO
(best way: Tyrus is in that big 3)
