Be Optomistic!

I know all the experts and others fans say that the Bulls arent gonna make the playoffs or not a contender or just a bad team just because of what happened last year. But everybody has seemed to forget about what happened 2 years ago when the Bulls were a top team in the NBA. This team is practically the same team that is was 2 years ago but we traded the completly unproductive Ben Wallace for Drew Gooden and Larry Hughs. And you can talk all the crap you want about Larry Hughs but he is more productive then Ben Wallace and Drew Gooden is looking great in a bulls uniform. Last year the 2 key players on the bulls( Loul Deng and Ben Gordon) were playing for contracts but this upcoming year everythhing will be solved. We'll also have a(hopefully) more developed Tyrus Thomas who was looking like All-Star material at the end of the season and will be the man who will most benefit from derrick rose's arival (he is also the Bull that is working the hardest this offseason). And then theres derrick rose the hope of all chicago fans. Well Derrick Rose will change everything, he will make everyone better and also bring in some offence which we desperatly need. This kid will also be ROY and be a 10 time allstar during his career in chicago.

Im hoping to god that last year was a complete fluke and the chicago bulls will come back smelling like roses (Ha get it) and become the bulls that almost beat the Pistons in the 2nd round.

I must say

It’s quite the shame that this never-ending BG saga has killed all the excitement over Derrick Rose. It’s like people on here forgot how good this kid is going to be…and he’s playing for the Bulls.

When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer

Yup

and to an extent, I think that’s a good thing. Remember all the talk about the insane pressure he was going to face as the number 1 pick and a chi-town kid? No more. I can’t remember the last time a number one overall got LESS hype going into a season. It’s all Oden this, BG-distractions that.

Fine with me!

I’ll enjoy it all the more when D. Rose steps into a less pressurized situation. And then commenses with the kicking of ass.

The Rod says...

The Bulls will be better than a lot of people think. .

They key next season will be dribble penetration jabroni! Look at Rose’s game, he doesnt need to light it up for 20 points a night to be effective. Big assists numbers are way doable for him and those are the possessions where last year the Bulls simply settled for jump shots that didnt go in.

How many of you remember those painfull 3-5 minute stretches where the Bulls didnt make a simple shot? The game would go from tied to trailing by 10 just like that. Too many times did this team clank off outside jumpers and TURNED THE BALL OVER with SIMPLE PASSES to the outside. Rose is not a savior, simply the right kind of player whose game can help fix those lapses where the team needs to protect the ball, get to the rim, or find an open shooter.

You took a jumpshooting team and added a quick slasher that can dish to open 3’s or big men attacking the basket, that alone is something this team never had last year.

To those other bloggers from different teams thinking the Bulls will be a pushover next season The Rod says this …. JUST BRING IT!!!!

Yeah, kind of 2005, don't ya think

I say, if you’re gonna copy a pop-culture figure’s moronic phraseology, go for the cutting edge.
Let me look into my crystal ball. And the answer is…
18 year old self-proclaimed bad-ass and potential-first-daughter’s-baby-daddy, Levi Johnston! It might be a little obscure, but for those who pick up on it, comedy gold!
Example: I’m just a f*&%#n redneck, but Derrick Rose shoots the s*@t out of that ball!!! He could take down a f$@#*n moose!

It wasn't all about Ben Wallace.

All of our best players played badly last year. I think they have to be better than last year, but I also don’t see them returning to the level of two years ago, let alone the level they were expected to achieve last year, when many seriously expected them to make the finals.

The top teams in the East have improved, and the Bulls have taken several steps back. The Wallace experiment didn’t work out, but now our best hopes rest on young players, and even if we are very lucky and they all turn into stars that will take time.

So I’m just hoping that they make the playoffs this year, and that they show steady progress. I would be quite happy with 42 wins, and I think that is possible. I would be shocked if they reach 50 wins. Be optimistic, yes, but be realistic as well.

yeah, and "optimistic" too!

Just bustin’ you about the spelling!

Anyway, there ARE reasons to be optimistic!

I realize it was a meaningless game, last game of the
season, and not a lot of motivation from Toronto, yet, still Gray
had like 20 rebounds. Crap in the Summer League though!

Then there was the Noah-shows-his-potential games, a few of them,
most memorable and all over YouTube was vs the Jan 3 vs Bobcats.
Man! If he could do that every night! He also looked like crap in the Summer
League. But who knows? Young guy. Needs to lose that funky release on his shot.

Deng – he should be revitalized, healthy and is well-paid with no contract worries, and
should surpass all previous season’s numbers in all categories.

For all the talk, I hope they keep Gordon, and dump Nocioni, and or, Pipe-Dream here,
Larry Hughes. It’s about utility. BG is more valuable, and Hughes should be the odd-man-out in the great guard glut. But, they’re gonna keep Hughes around for his BIG
expiring contract, well-timed too – 2010, the Super Bowl of Free Agency, if you believe the hype.

Thabo, not bad. Needs a better J, and decision making on passes and not leave his feet without knowing what he’s gonna do. Oh, and a legit 3-point shot, and a side-order of some arc on his shot please too. Built a rep as a pesky defender limiting an injured D-Wade in the playoffs 2 years ago. But, he’s not a young kid anymore and needs to step up big time this season and show he is WORTH keeping.

Hinrich. What to say. I know there are 2 camps here and they are split here on this guy. BUT, he must have a much improved season in just about every category, but can he? One year older, slower, he was getting torched on D a lot last year, and doesn’t finish strong at the hoop, wastes a lot of the shot-clock pounding the rock on his way to nowhere, and shot miserable percentage from outside and the three-point line. Other than that, yeah, Captain Kirk! Heard he’s bulked-up. We will see very quickly, IF, HOW and WHERE he even fits on this team. A lot of it will have to do with D-Rose’s development.

D-Rose – Not worried about this kid at all. Only that he gets enough minutes right away.
Del Negro’s assistants carry a history of not playing rookies a lot. Scary. He’ll be awesome.
Forget the Summer League mirage. Also, nobody is even talking about Rose much, in the great Ben Gordon debate that dominates the boards. D-Rose changes everything.
D-Rose working out hard, while Beasley smokes weed at the orientation! :-) Just kidding.

Ben Gordon, quickly, I’d be OK with him accepting their longer term offer and staying, dumping Nocioni and/or Hughes ASAP. The waiting for Gordon to play out should not preclude dealing of Nocioni. In fact, dealing Nocioni could actually result in keeping Gordon more easily!

Ben can shoot, plain and simple.. He’s the only legit 3-pt shooter they have really. Please, don’t say Nocioni either! If used properly, he can ring it up.

D Gooden – can play, but will never be great. Inconsistent, he’ll have a sick game, and then disappear the next game. No remaining upside, what you see is what you get. But, better than anything else they’ve got at his position. Can’t really shoot, but tries hard…

T Thomas – Not a rookie or that young anymore, time to step up! My view is, physically, he’s a freak, mentally, well, he could focus on fundamentals a bit more, abandon dreams of being an outside shooter, make his thing blocks, rebounds, steals, and improve his decision-making. Can he show that he was a better pick than Aldridge? This is the season to do it….

Demetris Nichols – Somebody, sees something in him. I dunno. Be nice if he adds anything to the mix at all.

Omar Asik – Wait! He’s coming! He blocked a lot of shots in Europe, cost the Bulls two Second Round draft picks, and is still 2 years away from joining the Bulls. Weird gamble by Paxdof…

But, in any case, Go Bulls! :-)

Stop this Fluke "BS".. 82 games season (33 -49)

To many games, stop the excuses with the coach situation. All teams have injuiries, all teams and players have mental challenges. Only one team has Paxsdorf! The Bulls were exactly who they where in 2007-2008 in a much stronger Eastern conference, and they were exactly who they were in 2006-2007 in a much weaker Eastern conference.

Now, in a stronger 2008-2009 Eastern conference, with the addition of D. Rose, and the possibility of the subtraction of B. Gordon and actual loss of Joe Smith. Also still under the same experienced leadership of Paxsdorf.

One more year of maturity and experience on the part on Tyrus and Noah, and hopefully better health from L.Deng.

I imagine I can either be slightly more optimistic or slightly more pesimistic? Slightly is the key word here.
