I´ve got to stop reading ESPN...

...

First, the Bulls number one draft pick, Rose, does not get a single number 1 vote for rookie of the year in the ESPN poll and the analysis torches the Bulls for not taking B-Easy.

Second, Hollinger´s PER ranking abosolutey crap on all the bulls best players.

Third, Thorpe ranks Rose number 7 among rookies, throwing salt on our wounds by stating, at least the bulls still have Hinrich.

Now, I know that Rose is not really projected to make an immediate impact, being a point guard and all, and that the Bulls collectivley shat the bed last year, screwing thier own PERS in the process...but for whatever reason, I still find it depressing.

ESPN IS TRASHOLA

I read this too and couldn’t come up with a rational explanation for why Rose recieved no votes. So I decided that they’re jealous about Michael Jordan. And deep down inside they never want the Chicago Bulls to be blessed with anything close to the GOAT ever again.

ESPN is good for checking scores, but beyond that nothing. They have their heads up each others rectums…its possible with an article like that. Think about it, they wouldn’t be able to see chit. Wait they would though…I don’t know anymore.

#3 is pretty dumb

but you gotta take anything with a grain of salt that ranks kevin love third. however considering most of the top rookies are going to be better than hinrich, his fallback statement is stupid.

but i’m looking forward to what rose will really show us this season.

There's a lot of truth in those reports

to the extent that they’re ranking historical performances, but if there was a crystal ball that projected how rookies would pan out, there wouldn’t be so many Morrisons, Bargnanis, etc in the league. The Bulls are mediocre in individual matchups, but their cohesion and effort elevated them until Skiles lost his mojo here. Their A game could compete with most teams’ B game. You had the feeling throughout the second half of last season that no matter how big of a lead they had, BOTH teams knew the game wasn’t over. They just don’t have the talent to match up when both teams bring it.

only a Bulls' fan would give Rose a ROY vote right now.

and only a Bulls’ fan would waste his/her time reading this stuff.

by chicago-homesick-blues on Sep 3, 2008 11:19 AM CDT reply actions

Well if you really looked at the chart you would see Rose wasn't truly being slighted.

They voted for rookie of the year, results as follows:
Michael Beasley – 13
Greg Oden – 7
OJ Mayo – 2
Russell Westrbook – 1
Anthony Randolph – 1
Rudy Fernandez – 1

I don’t see the big deal. Most everyone should be able to agree that Oden and Beasley are both more likely to win Rookie of the Year. Who cares about these 1 or 2 vote thing. Other than Randolph, I could at least see the case for all of these guys getting a lone vote. Fernandez the experienced Euro player, Westbrook the star rookie of summer league, and Mayo’s combination of ready made game and guaranteed 35mpg in Memphis.

As for the PER complaints, Hollinger didn’t invent PER to screw over the Bulls. It’s a formula.

by CJ Bulls on Sep 3, 2008 12:55 PM CDT reply actions

It would be awesome

if he had invented it to screw over the Bulls. Some mustache twirling and maniacal laughter would help too. At least a revenge plot line would explain why it sucks so much with a little flair. As it is it just sucks in a mundane kind of way.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

This based off what exactly?

A few meaningless summer league games and the Olympics? Please. Let’s at least wait till the first couple weeks of the season before starting to worry about what will become of our beloved Rose. First things first, what to do with # 7.

by RogersPark Kris on Sep 3, 2008 2:26 PM CDT reply actions

I don't get it either

All the analysts were gushing about Rose before Chicago drafted him, then they were gushing that they definately picked the right guy….

Then he becomes a Bull, plays 2 games injured, and suddenly he’s the biggest bust since Kwame Brown…..

We’ll see. 3 months ago he was a can’t miss prospect and now he’s barely registering on ESPN…..why does ESPN hate the Bulls?

I am glad though so far that we still have Hinrich, I’d rather wait to trade Hinrich at the deadline as his value’s at an all time low….and now if we lose BG (which seems likely, I think we should keep Cap’n Kirk)…..smart, gritty players are always nice, and one who’s got solid all around skills but played like crap until Jan has to be worth more htan his market value is currently…

From what I've read, most still expect Rose to be a great player

Just not in his rookie year. And since the ROY vote and Thorpe’s rookie rankings are specifically looking at impact in the rookie year, it really shouldn’t be that surprising. They also are taking into account how much PT and how central a role the rooks will play on their respective teams, and that certainly seems to be up in the air with Pax and Vinny talking about easing him into it and with the unresolved guard glut.

A lot of “experts” seem to expect him to struggle especially since he’s a PG and many people seem to look at that as one of the hardest positions to transition. That’s hardly the same as calling him a bust.

Man-slave, bring me my PB&J!

by wjb1492 on Sep 3, 2008 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

But it’s hard to not call him a bust as a #1 overall not in the top 7 players as a rookie…..I think that’s one and the same. I could see them saying not as good as Beasley or Oden out of the gate, but to fall way behind the others is a bit much, like a soft complaint that he’s gone from Golden Boy to Bust in 2 meaningless summer league games…..

by majoyenrac on Sep 4, 2008 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions

well he would be in the top 7

considering he is #7…

but i mean, considering that the list has kevin love at #3, whatever. i’m going to refrain from calling anyone a bust until i actually see them in the NBA anyways. 2 summer league games hardly qualify. Pre-season rankings are pretty dumb.

by Jaina on Sep 4, 2008 10:54 AM CDT up reply actions

The 'Thorpedo' didn't even change his ranking after the Olympic Select Team

played the U.S. Team.

“It was a great experience, not only for Derrick, but all the young players in the league,” Del Negro said. “I thought Derrick continually got more comfortable and as every day went on. He just kept getting better and better, which is really exciting. I know he was happy with the way he played.”

This coming straight from Vinny D.

by RogersPark Kris on Sep 4, 2008 11:01 AM CDT up reply actions

yep,

plus the props from Dwight Howard, the USA Select team beating the vets, etc.

Thorpe’s rankings are awful. Marc Gasol ahead of Derrick Rose? Gallinari in front of Westbrook?

No. Just no.

Not to mention the fact that Asik,

who will play in Turkey next year, projects to have more of an NBA impact than Joey Dorsey, first-rounder Serge Ibaka (no sign of him going overseas yet), Malik Hairston, and Nikola Pekovic.

Does he even read this stuff?

The poster formerly known as Freethefro.

by MPG on Sep 4, 2008 11:34 AM CDT up reply actions

seriously.

give how well he played in summer league (since that seems to be the only basis for these rankings anyway), there’s no way westbrook should be only at #10.

by Jaina on Sep 4, 2008 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions

yup

and given that summerleague shouldn’t even qualify as pro ball – a much better indicator of how players would fare would be in the NCAA tournament – I’m content to absolutely throw out these “rankings.”

Rose has elite physical gifts, high character, and intense desire. I’ve said it before and still believe it: Baron Davis with a brain.

But look out for that Marc Gasol!

by MPG on Sep 4, 2008 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions

The rankings are completely ridiculous

and based on nothing but Thorpe’s “gut”. When you consider the number of European busts over the last couple years, to have Marc Gasol ranked that high is a joke. As is the K Love and Mayo rankings. Mayo is going to be a 40% jumpshooter who can’t get to the rim.

I agree, Rose will be a lot like Baron Davis without the selfishness.

by DangerMouse on Sep 4, 2008 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

And to me it looked like Marc Gasol will make Aaron Gray look quick….I don’t think he’ll do fabulous at least not as a rookie (nice save there).

by majoyenrac on Sep 4, 2008 1:31 PM CDT up reply actions

You get my point

I meant top 6 but wrote top 7….still that’s far for a #1 to fall who was a lock #1 or #2 before playing his first game…especially in light of the Redeem team practices that folks mentioned below….
We’ll see though, I hope to God they’re wrong.

I have a question has the season started

I wish it were winter so we could freeze it into ice blocks and skate on it and melt it in the spring time and drink it!
