The Bulls are looking at signing Juwon Howard
I think this would be an excellent move to bring in a strong veteran locker room type guy to help the youngest team in the league. Of course, this move is waiting the Ben Gordon seal of approval.

I agree to some extent; what we need is someone to score down low.
Can Juwon be that guy, or is he going to face up and be a tall jump shooter?
I also am recalling a great Sam Smith article about Juwon from a few years ago, when he was going to the Mavs. Sam was saying what a mature player Juwon’s become, and how he has an exemplary work ethic.
Definite shades of Joe Smith, though.
By the way, interesting mention of Bonzi Wells in that short write-up. But not-so-interesting mention of Roger Powell (we need low post offense at the 4!).
That page also has a link to the Bulls alleged interest in Othella (suppressed gag reflex), along with a previously mentioned trade proposal of Travis Outlaw and Joel Przybilla for Kirk Hinrich and a pick.
Interesting stuff… thanks for the link!

It would be a nice move - as long as he never plays
Howard is done as a player. I guess as a 15th man in a suit on the bench he’d be fine, but these “veteran presences” seem to get way too many minutes with this franchise.

totally agree.
why do people think this is a good idea?? howard? ruffin? harrington? so not what we need.
bizarre that the bulls would consider bringing in wells, though.

Are you saying that adding Juwon would be like adding Othella Harrington?
If so, I had no idea that Juwon’s skills had deteriorated that much… I mean, I knew he was near the end, but Othella Harrington / Adrian Griffin territory?

maybe not as bad...
i don’t know. can’t say i’ve watched howard much but from what i’d heard he’s pretty much done. compare his 07-08:
PPG 1.1
RPG 1.6
APG 0.3
SPG 0.1
BPG 0.0
FG% 0.359
FT% 0.786
3P% 0.000
MPG 7.1
__________
Othella’s:
PPG 2.1
RPG 1.9
APG 0.2
SPG 0.1
BPG 0.2
FG% 0.429
FT% 0.625
3P% 0.000
MPG 7.5

Pretty much identical. we lucked out with joe smith being as productive as he was last year, which in a way was a detriment since it blocked the young guys. but the bulls do not need to sign this guy.

He didn't play last year in Dallas.
That is not a good sample at all, seven minutes a game in 50 games?…it was basically like he got a year off to rest his body…The year before, in Houston, he played in 80 games, with 38 starts, at over 26 minutes per…he put up 9.7 pts and 5.9 rebs…if he can give us that kind of per minute production playing 13 minutes a night when Noah or Gooden are making mistakes and fouling everyone, I would be very happy with the Bulls signing Juwon Howard. This is the youngest team in the league, we could use a veteran presence in the locker room. He would be like the Antonio Davis of a couple of years ago…

or he's a 35 year old
in his 15th season and he’s done. davis didn’t have the drop off he did before coming to the bulls.
sorry, i just can’t share your optimism.

How old is Howard?
I’m guessing even if he was brought in he’d be a worse, less efficient version of Gooden in terms of inside scoring. Aaron Gray will gladly fill that role, though if Howard is supposed to fill in the PJ Brown role of sage wisdom-giver, then it seems like a decent idea.

that's just a terrible idea in every respect

Attention women of Chicago...
Howard has more “intentionally spreading STDs” lawsuits than he has NBA rings. I’d rather take my chances with Jimmy King or Ray Jackson.

I agree with everyone who thinks Howard is finished as an NBA player. Heck he was finished 12 months ago if not before. Howard shouldn’t be in the league this coming season. Bulls shouldn’t sign him.

It's Juwan, not Juwon.
I don’t know about the STD rumor (or how that makes him different than any other NBA player) but I do know I’ve seen him several times at Cubs games lately with his 2 adorable little kids. He’s sat near us and he’s a really nice guy. I liked his game when he played for Michigan back in the day and always remember the stories how he was an all-around great guy. He lives here, so would player/coach be a bad option?

As for how old he is, he’s 34.
