…they’ll still be stacked with guys like Hughes, Thabo Sefolosha and Hinrich

Does “stacked” mean something other than what it used to mean because those three guys together do not comfort me at all. We’ve got an inefficient chucker in Hughes. A guy with the flattest shot I’ve ever seen in Thabo. And a guy who was getting excuses last year for being tired and a poor shooter because of being worn down guarding tall shooting guards…who will be once again guarding tall shooting guards this year and pinging basketballs off the front of the rim. Stacked? Not really.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

We'll see

Thabo’s flat shot doesn’t necessarily mean can’t hit it; if there’s a flatter 3 in the league, it’s Kobe’s. Hughes has talent, and it’s possible that he’s been in 2 bad places as LBJ’s caddy and numbnuts’ circus last year. If VDN can bring out his best, it’s not awful. Same with Kirk; not my pick for Rose’s 2 guard, but we’ll live using him in the right spots and hopefully establish a market for him. I just don’t think this season is about how good can the 2008-9 Bulls do; I’m more into testing all of the pieces to see how they are going to fit in the Rose era. It could be that not one of them is going to be any more significant than the roster MJ got drafted into. That said, I think the keys for a happy season are melding Noah, TT and Deng into a strong frontcourt. If that doesn’t happen, I don’t think the 2g is going to make a huge difference. If it does, I still think we’re closer to 50 wins than 50 losses. And with the payroll dump that’s available over the next years, we’ll have a good 2 somewhere along the line.

ugh, this is that bleacherreport post

http://www.blogabull.com/2008/9/13/613595/bleacher-report-season-pre

Why is FoxSports re-publishing this? I’ve never seen anything from the open-sore sports blog that was worth linking, let alone affiliating.

Thanks for the links

Man, those are 2 happy reports. Just imagine what happens IF, A: Noah turns out to be the player projected as the #1 pick 2 years ago at center, and B: TT becomes the player Pax traded Aldridge for. We’ll have 3 future all-stars under 23 years old, Deng locked and loaded, and all the rest as role players. Why wouldn’t Gordon want to be a part of that? Here’s hoping he comes to terms with reality. The market is screaming the answer at him: Take the $60 mil! He already gave up last year’s raise. If he skips this year’s as well, he’s going to need a miracle to recoup that cash and break even. Can’t see how the Fox report can project a breakout year for Noah and put them at 8th seed “at best”.

Unlike the Kirk gaining weight report, I like the Tyrus at 230lbs report

Let’s hope he can hold position this year and still run. I’m encouraged to say the least

It is still kinda surreal

That we’re less than a month away from camp and this mess is still lingering.

Nothing seems to have been solved besides the obvious. The Deng signing.

Remember how we all thought this summer was gonna be so busy for the Bulls?

Ughh, this team need a pulse

by Option27 on Sep 15, 2008 3:34 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep, but now that we've gotten to this point...

what’s a few more weeks? I still believe Gordon will cave at the last moment, since he has nothing to be gained by caving early.

I wish this were resolved, but really, the good vibes the Bulls want are only coming out of training camp, familiarity, and production on the court.

After Kirk, BG and Rose produce, we won’t have a guard “glut” anymore; we’ll be “loaded.”

Besides, this glut is largely imaginary anyway, especially with regard to Larry. Just don’t play him! Problem solved.

Gordon might cave,

but then we will have guard glut. We already have a bit of guard glut without him. Unless Thabo plays the three mostly. Thabo plays best with more minutes so if you limit him he will likely suck again. Kirk will want minutes. Hughes will want it and they will be tempted because of his paycheck. Gordon will want minutes. Rose should get it, but they might kiddie glove him.

Oddly, I am ok with Gooden/Thomas/Noah. Between the 4/5 they should have plenty of time. Noc still bothers me. Small at four, slow at three. Meh. All I know is I want roles clearly outlined, minutes consistently given out, and players that should be happy on the bench (Gray, Noc etc) not trying to “work” their way up the food chain like last year. I was really hoping they’d get rid of some of these average guys and that others would rise to the top. With a team of average people minutes can be debatable. I want some clearly good guys and then clearly bench guys. The blurring of the lines is a problem. Not having Duhon to start goes a long way though.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Sep 15, 2008 3:54 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not as high on Thabo as some are,

but I agree that the player the Bulls most need to remove – either from the team or the rotation – is Nocioni. We can afford to let Rose start the season relatively slowly at 25 mpg. Having done so that leaves us with Gordon and 33 mpg, Hinrich at 33 mpg, Deng at 33 mpg, and Thabo at 20 mpg – backing up the two and three.

It’s hardly ideal, I know. However: at those minutes I believe we’ll see a spike in either Hinrich’s or Gordon’s value. The coupling of a talented young guard with Gooden’s expiring contract could net us something pretty good. Then, post trade, both Thabo’s and Derrick Rose’s minutes increase – hopefully something they’ve earned with their production!

(Rose first, of course. If the kid is killing out there, give the kid the ball. You don’t screw with the future of the franchise.)

What cannot happen is losing Gordon without compensation. That would be total failure for the organization. Losing a number 2 (Tyson) and number 3 for less than nothing. (And by less than nothing, I mean the bloated Big Wallace cum the bloated contract of Larry Hughes.)

i love me some Tyrus

no more excuses, well unless the coaches play him at the 3 ;)

I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

It is really exciting

to hear he had a good off season by all accounts. Gained some mass, addressed key problems, has a coach who might talk to him instead of glare at him. If everything is in place his success will be in his own hands. I have to admit I am not really looking forward to this season with the exception of Rose and Thomas now.

i will be happy

once BG resigns, I dont mind the many guards on the team as long as Larry Hughes doesn’ play much. Play Thabo at the backup 3. Trade Noc & Kirk… If is was sooo easy!?!

I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

You can put those Miami Heat rumors to rest

Link

Miami has been exploring a lot of possibilities, including, three sources told Yahoo! Sports, recent discussions with the Chicago Bulls on several trade scenarios that included Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for unsigned restricted free agent Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes and possibly Joakim Noah. Yet, those talks died within the past seven to 10 days and sources said there was no indication they would be restarted.

Rosen knows nothing

Link

If you were John Paxson, which of the Bulls would you consider to be the keepers, the guys that’d you’d build the future around? My choices would be Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni, Theo Sefalosha, Derrick Rose, Tyrus Thomas, and Joakim Noah. — David Jones, Sauk Village, Ill.

I certainly agree with you about Deng. He’s a dynamic scorer and, with a little more confidence, could easily blossom into a reliable go-to guy.

I also like Nocioni’s skills but even more important, it’s his toughness that can set the tone for the entire team.

Sefalosha’s extraordinary gifts are worth working with for another couple of seasons.

Rose, of course, IS the future.

It could be, however, that Thomas will always be too young, too irresponsible, and too uncoachable to ever be consistent. I’d give him one more season to get his heads together while, at the same time, explore what he might bring in a trade.

However, I think that Noah’s game is too limited for him to ever be a consistent contributor to a winning team. At most he’s a 10-15 minute player.

I think there’s a place for Kirk Hinrich because of his gritty, unselfish attitude. He’d be a fine fit running the second unit.

Everybody else — Ben Gordon (is he still around?), Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Aaron Gray — are merely roster filler until more keepers are obtained.

by Option27 on Sep 16, 2008 1:59 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I just don't see

Noc as being tough. No more than a cornered raccoon or something. He certainly expends a lot of energy, but he isn’t smart about how he goes about doing it. A smart “tough guy” is James Posey with the Celtics last year. You don’t have to like him, but he knows his game and how to be tough in that gray area. With the added difficulties of rules being changed concerning charges Noc will be left with only half of his game even being legal.

It doesn’t sound like he even bothered to see what Thomas was up to this summer nor watched a game the last few years.

Kirk? Gritty? Unselfish? I guess the eye rolling was on behalf of the team then and the crying to the refs all season was the grit part. Though the “second unit” comment is hopeful.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

How the hell is Noah a "10-15 minute player"?

Not that it’s saying much, but he was one of the better players on the team last year. This guy actually gets paid for his “expertise”?

We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.

well in his defense

the Bulls sucked last year. So it’s yet to be seen if he can do it on a ‘winning team’. (of course he could)

In fact, I don’t think he’s that far off on Thomas either. I too think that if it’s more of the same this season it’s a major problem. However unlike Rosen I actually believe it won’t be.

The ‘grit’ talk almost makes me think Rosen’s angling to join the front office.

hmm…spoke too soon on the new fanshot. It’s about Tyrus, and it’s not like anybody really needs a new thread just for Charley Rosen bashing.

Yup

Thought it would work under the Tyrus talk

Also, like you mentioned . . . Rosen doesn’t deserve his own thread

I wonder how much bball he actually watches

Rosen sounds very much like a man who knew the game, but he’s very cliche and jaded with an occasional insightful walk down memory lane. Noah was the projected top pick the year we took TT. He’s an unorthodox center, bringing less bulk and a lot more quickness and agility. If you look at the current makeup of the team, we have a LOT of that going on. It doesn’t look like a group that you want to play a half court game with. Here’s hoping that VDN and staff can conjure up a plan that pushes the tempo.

Offensive Strategy?

I just read this article about the Pistons and new Coach Curry’s offensive planning

Pistons Offensive Strategy

The Pistons probably aren’t a championship caliber team, but a lock for the playoffs. When I think about our core group of guys, I sense not much offensive strategy in half court game for VDN because the personal doesn’t really have exceptional offensive skills. (maybe the exception of Rose and Gordon).
Deng is a question mark (?), and the 71 million dollar man really needs to get stronger or he’ll wilt under the pressure of a big paycheck similiar to Kirk. Unfortunately, from last years team I believe Ben Gordon is probably the lone mentally tough skilled player on the team who now is unsigned.

Looks like a run and gun to score points. I hope Tyrus has the endurance!

Dear Ben, please leave

Dear Ben:

Please, please, walk away. Help the Bulls help themselves. If you sign here, it will be utter turmoil, you won’t get PT, and won’t shine. How about an extended European vacation? You could go play for something like the Lower Entrails of Italy team or somewhere, score a lot of points, and then fool some bad team like the Bucks or the Clippers into signing you. However, the healing can’t start here unless you move on. Championships teams do not have key players who don’t play D, and have no idea what’s going on in the game, unless it directly involves themselves.

by kmatus on Sep 18, 2008 7:03 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He plays defense.

I am amazed at the people who think Gordon should be grouped with the guys who don’t even try at D. Have you seen those guys? Gordon is not among them. Not even close. We had an excellent defensive rating just two years ago with Gordon on the team. His defense is just not that big of a liability.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
