A BG Sign and Trade That Makes Sense! Or Not.

In a perfect world, the Bulls would trade Noce for a lesser contract and resign Gordon for 6 years 59 to 63 million.  But sadly, its not a perfect world, and we don't have a perfect owner or GM.  I just don't think Bulls management values BG to that degree.  So in that vain, I think the Bulls should sign and trade BG to ... Toronto.  The trade would be

Bulls get Bargnani, Kapono and a pick.

Toronto gets Gordon and Simmons.

Bargnani, a former Number 1 pick, hasn't reached his potential in the NBA and won't being forced to play behind Bosh and O'Neal or having to play SF.  He can score from the outside, averaged more points than all our inside guys and has the size to play C at times.  Plus, he would look really good in the pick and pop and could be another piece to add with Rose.  Kapono comes in and helps us offset some of the loss of Gordon plus he allows us to move Noce at a later point.

Our lineup would be C Noah, PF Gooden, SF Deng, SG Hinrich, PG Rose.  We'd have a 9 man rotation with Sefo, Hughes, Bargani and Tyrus coming off the bench.\ with Kapono providing outside shooting as needed.  We'd still have the option to move Hughes, Noce, Hinrich or Gooden in case something opened up.  (I woudn't mind moving Noce in a pure salary dump.  He doesn't really fit with where the team is heading).  Basically the Bulls would be counting on Kapono, Bargani and Hughes to replace BG's production.  Not exactly an insane premise.

Toronto with the acquisition of O'Neal is preparing to win now.  Gordon can help accomplish that.  He fits with the style Colangelo prefers.  They can make up for his lackluster D because O'Neal and Moon are top notch defenders, and Bosh can block shots as well.  Jose Calderon ability to handle the ball means Gordon won't ever have to.  With this trade and good health you can argue that the Raptors are top 3 in the East.

I reiterate that I would like to keep Gordon.  But if we can get a talent like Bargani, a role player and a draft pick, I think we have to make the deal rather than sign him to the qualifying offer.

You can add in guys like Noce or Sefo and get back Graham and/or Parker.  But I don't think Toronto is to keen on moving Parker.

now you've gone and done it...

thomas coming off the bench? NOT ON BAB HE’S NOT!!! haven’t you read all the posts about how thomas’ free throw form is perfect in the preseason, and how he’s going to get alley-oops all day from rose, and how thomas grew 6” over the summer?...

What's better

Posting that 100000 times, or posting “Ben Gordon is short he’s the smallest 6’2 man I’ve ever seen I tell you what!”

I was a multiple time all star throughout my little league career. Won 5 championships- 4 in a row- thats more in a row than MJ… (kenwo4life@aol.com)

Toronto becomes pretty deadly

I’m still banking on the perfect world though.

it doesn't work

via hoopsworld

“A deal including Gordon with the smaller salary of player like Cedric Simmons won’t work two-way since the Bulls can’t take in more than $8.5 million and the incoming team has to send out at least $9.3 million.”

i didn't crunch the numbers

but it wouldn’t be hard to make things work. Toronto has a number of players making 4 to 6 million dollars who could be subbed in or out to make the numbers work. We have a couple guys in Noce and Gooden who have sizeable, but not insanely large contracts.

My main point was that the bulls should be looking to get a prospect, a decent rotation player and a draft pick for Ben. The Bulls aren’t going to get a superstar. And I don’t see the point of getting a Marion or Odom type player for 1 year than refusing to play them.

i like

the idea of getting a prospect and a draft pick. but instead of just any rotation player, i’d prefer a guy with a short contract, like 1 or 2 years. and i’d definitely prefer to add noce rather than gooden in a trade because i just wanna get rid of his terrible contract. i was just pointing out that the bulls would have to give more than simmons along with gordon in order to make a deal work

You know what

Not a terrible trade if Ben has to go….I’d still take my chances with the cough bust Bargnani, Kapono and draft pick. Toronto would have to love adding Gordon to Bosh and O’Neal and Calderon….wow that sounds like a great team.

We can afford to wait a few years on Bargnani’s development. He’s a big body (height wise not strength wise for us), and a nice shooter who can stretch the offense if he ever becomes anything.

Kapono’s large contract makes Noc look like a gem, but Kapono can shoot lights out and that might help us in stretches.

I would presume the 1st round pick is mid to late 20’s after thsi trade, nothing to write home about, but still can be an option to add if we trade say Hinrich or Gooden after this trade.

Nice work. I’d hate to see Ben go, but I’d hate to see him sign the qualifying offer and leave for nothing, and I’d hate to see us drastically overpay for him like we did for Deng and completely hinder our future. We already signed Deng too, so be it.

This trade is OK, but Bargnani is a likely candidate to go back to Europe at the conclusion of his rookie deal. I don’t say that as a knee-jerk reaction to the Josh Childress situation. European players in the NBA who are not real stars (i.e., everyone but Dirk) have to be considered as legitimate risks to go back home to play for real money in a league where they can be considered top-tier talent. Bargnani is an average NBA player but would be considered a star in the Euroleague, where he can make the same or more than he would in the NBA. Plus, he would have access to better pizza and cuter girls. Until further notice, my stance is not to sign Euros unless they are locked up for a few years.

How about New Orleans

I read here they inquired about Ben this summer and there were talks last year. My preference would be to keep him, but we might be able to get something from them.

Gordon ($8.M BYC) and Nocioni ($8M) for

Mike James $6M
Julian Wright $1.56M
Rasul Butler $3.63M
Melvin Ely $1.07M

will, I think, work according to the trade rules.

What does this trade do for us?
Julian Wright is, I guess, a nice prospect and gives us another player still on his rookie contract in 2010.
We get out from under Noc’s contract.
James is instant offense… a poor man’s Gordon.

Shit, I can’t even convince myself this is a good idea.

i like the idea

only because it’s better than the QO and julian wright is a good prospect. i checked the numbers, and i think they’d have to add hilton armstrong to make it work for gordon and noce (not sure). its also 2 players for 5, so i don’t know if either team would want to do that.

that's poo.

I think sign/trades just suck, unless you’re looking to move salary. Though technically that’s Paxson’s wheelhouse.
