Around SBN: Tottenham's Plans for Northumberland Stadium Approved

Just a Utah beat writer pulling a Sam Smith here, but nonetheless some interesting ideas. I personally would be pretty happy with a Gordon for Kirilenko swap without anything else added in because he's versatile enough to play with any of our front court guys and can do so many good things on defense. The idea he proposes of Gordon/Nocioni for Kirilenko/ Ronnie Brewer would really be a dream deal.

hmmm

This guy wants Hinrich & Nocioni, but doesnt want Noah or Tyrus…

Too bad the Jazz don't feel the same way.

What the deuce?
Utah would likely have an interest in Hinrich or Nocioni, but the Bulls were unwilling to part with either one when they had a chance to get Pau Gasol from Memphis last year. So I don’t know if Gordon’s unhappiness with his contract would change their thinking too much.

I’ll pretend I didn’t read that.

As far as the Jazz, I don’t know that I want Kirilenko at $17M in 2010. He might make sense if we were keeping Gordon and our other players, but if we’re looking to change things pretty dramatically I don’t see what good an older player (relative to our really young core) on a long-term deal gets us.

I think if there’s any sort of deal, it’d basically be a mediocre player/salary dump.

Something like Gordon ($8M, $4.8BYC) + Nocioni $8M for Harpring ($6M) Kyle Korver ($4.7M), Jarron Collins ($2M) and Brevin Knight ($1.7M)

I think the Jazz would jump at that. I think it looks like a sack of garbage for us, and that’s coming from a big Jarron Collins fan.

That is

a pretty big sack of garbage.
I really hope we don’t go that route. If Gordon will take $8 mil, we may as well sign him ourselves.

any deal for Kirilenko

that doesn’t get Hinrich/Nocioni off the books (or Hughes for that matter) doesn’t sit well. That’s just too much money for too many years for a guy who hasn’t had a great season in a while. I think a lot of that has to do with not playing at the 4, but I don’t want to bet a quarter of the cap to find out.

What if ya get Brewer?

Brewer isn’t a good shooter, but he has improved, and he’s a really good defender— especially for a youngin’. Extremely athletic, gets a ton of steals, I like him a lot and he’d be really good along with Rose as far as an athletic, running, defensive backcourt goes.

Brewer obviously isn’t the shooter Gordon is, but he’ll likely keep improving like most players do. He could be the diamond that helps you swallow the bitter AK47 salary pill (diamonds help people swallow things right?). If a raw guard like him can get playing time as a rookie and start as a 2nd year player for Jerry Sloan, the kid plays hard and smart and does what his coach says.

AK is way overpaid, but his deal is up before Hinrich and Annoycioni, right? I’d rather have AK in a happier, Sloan-free place than Nocioni, even if AK costs as much as Gordon and Noc cost.

Does this kill your 2010 cap space?

As far as sign n’ trades go with Gordon, this definitely at least seems like the best I’d seen that could maybe theoritically happen. I’m sure a Jazz fan will tell me how I’m wrong (if not a Bull fan).

Yeah, AK pretty much kills the cap space.

I worked out that if you can move Nocioni then you can pay Gordon, Deng, Noah, Rose and our draft picks over the next couple years and have maximum cap room. You also have about $9M left to pay probably only one of Hinrich, Gooden, Thomas, Thabo and Gray.

If you take on AK and move Gordon, you’re taking in $17M salary in 2010 and giving out about $10-11M. So the $9M left you have to pay those other guys becomes $2-3M. Which is obviously a problem since Kirk is already under contract for $9M.

So basically we’d have Noah/AK/Deng/Rose/2 first rounders and max cap space

I’d rather have Noah/Deng/Gordon/Rose/2 first rounders and $9M worth of the Hinrich, Gooden, Thomas, Thabo and Gray grab bag + max cap space.

In the former case it’s a very shallow team with one aging player and a bunch of young ones.
In the latter case you’ve got a younger, deeper team that one can at least imagine going places if a star player like Wade, Bosh or Amare decides to delight us with his presence.

The Bulls already have Brewer.

His name is Thabo Sefolosha.

The Game chose him !

by Diabolo on Aug 29, 2008 2:56 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't think there is that much difference, really.

Don’t forget that the Jazz had virtually nobody at the 2 spot and had to play Brewer. Plus playing alongside Deron Williams is slightly easier than playing alongside Kirk Hinrich (especially last year). That helps your confidence and production I think.

The Game chose him !

by Diabolo on Aug 29, 2008 8:37 AM CDT up reply actions

Hell, if that's true

You better get Thabo’s ass out there because Brewer is good.

I’m not saying Brewer will be a star, but more in the star-role player mold. The Teyshaun Prince mold. He’s pretty versatile and smart.

I haven’t SEEN Thabo play like Brewer, but I’m willing to believe Thabo could be similar or better. And if that is true, losing Gordon stings a lot less, and if Gordon re-signs Thabo NEEDS minutes this year.

Until Thabo plays regularly and does what Brewer can do, I’d have to give the edge firmly to Brewer, but Thabo hasn’t gotten enough of a shot perhaps to show what he can do.

There actually are Jarron Collins fans?

Enough to the extent that you’d even be able to distinguish a “big” fan from an ordinary one? Wow.

as a really big Jason Collins fan

I can vouch.

LOL

I just meant I’m fat. Literally a big fan. OK, I used to be a big fan, but I managed to diet off about 50lbs. And a big Jarron Collins fan, not a traitorous Jason Collins fan. He’s pretty clearly the evil twin, and the talentless one to boot.

Jarron on the other hand, is big and beefy and draws lots of charges.

by Sports2 on Aug 28, 2008 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm a fan of twin centers in general

I look forward to the epic battles between the Collins brothers and the Lopez brothers.

It's pretty safe to assume

That Jason Collins is the worst basketball player in the NBA.

"I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Gonna kick some ass in the USA. Gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a big truck. I’m gonna rule this world. I’m gonna kick some ass. I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Rock, flag, and eagle!"
