Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Gordon says Gordon is Gone.

Despite arguing not to resign Ben Gordon to a big money deal with YFBB for most of the last two days, I don't feel good about the latest news.

Ben is now saying that he is done playing for the Chicago Bulls... that he prefers a sign and trade to a different team, which he considers likely... and that he does consider playing overseas to be a feasible alternative.

He seems quite certain that he won't play for the qualifying offer.Which would seem to insinuate that he has a sign and trade close to being worked out, since I don't see him sitting out for a year, and the team overseas that was said to be courting him just spent good money on Jannero Pargo.

I am curious to see what kind of sign & trades Ben, his agent, and or Paxon can work out. But I'm not particularly thrilled about a sign and trade either. As I have said in several posts on this blog, I think Ben is a good player, and a very good fit for our offense. I think he is worth almost every penny of 10mil per year. But I don't think he is worth the 13 mil a year that he is reportedly asking for. But if we sign and trade him, and another team gives him that insane deal, then we are still taking back that salary, just with other players attached to it. And presumably, players that don't fit our offense as well.

So here's hoping it is for expiring deals. Then I'm not thrilled to lose the outside shooting, but I'll be happy to start gaining some cap flexibility in the next few years.

Also, this probably ensures that Kirk will stay around for the year, which I guess I'm fine with, but I would assume that we would take back a front court player in any sign and trade, so hopefully, that ensures that Nocioni will be sent out for a shorter term deal.

Also (Part Two), Is this a good time for me and Alec to bring up JJ Redick?

I'm glad...

I’m just REALLY glad that Gordon quits playing for the Bulls.

I was sick and tired of trying to compensate his “shortcomings” with his huge ego.

He has a quite distorted vision of himself…

I hope we can get some dcent value in return…

Either way, the Bulls are better off without him

HIM

I meant, I was sick and tired of HIM trying to compensate his "shortcomings" with his huge ego.

how long ago was that?

Did Gordon tell Reinsdorf to fuck himself and jet to Europe immediately after the offer was presented? And it was a lowball offer.

How long ago was what?

I have no detailed information of what BG has told Reinsdorf…
And he would have to receive an offer from Europe first, No?
I disagree.

Well it's all on the record now

with quotes and all.

“It’s a numbers game there,” Gordon said. “Obviously, they don’t want to pay the luxury tax.

"Last season, even though we had a poor season, I was one of the players that suffered the most on the team because at the trade deadline we brought in even more guards and I saw my minutes drop. And there really was no merit for that. I really don’t understand why my minutes dropped. This year, the problem is still the same. I don’t see it getting better. Maybe somewhere else is better for my career.”

The Bulls will regret the treatment of Ben Gordon for a long time to come. The damage will not be healed by moving Ben Gordon.

This isn't news.

BG’s statement is just an additional step in contract talks. This isn’t NEWS!

It is a smart thing for BG to get headline news on ESPN with his statement. Maybe the Bulls will start taking him more seriously.

If anyone thinks that BG is gone today anymore than yesterday, it’s a wrong presumption.

The bulls need a 6th man, and he’s one of the best in the league. The Bulls know BG is needed more than Noc.

Get used to this guys, BG’s status is a work in progress.

I tend to agree

but at the least these negotiations are more contentious than Deng’s. But when deals are done that stuff usually goes away.

Wow.

I might be insulted that you resorted to childish name calling.

But then again, the word Dork is hilarious. That made me laugh.

Gordon played his last game

Just like Lance Briggs. Tactic, tactic, tactic.

Last game?

I really don’t want to see him leave. He’s the guy that made me want to watch Bulls games again.

hmmmmm....

the organization don’t know how to treat their players right..
elton brand, brad miller, ron atest, tyson chandler, and now, ben gordon. reinsdorf is a dork, just let pax do his damn job, stop intervinin.

when are we going to add a 7th championship?

A player saying they're gone

doesn’t mean anything these days. Lance Briggs said he would never play for the Bears again and then signed a multi-year deal. I think Gordon will sign the QO and leave after this year. He doesn’t have any other options.

by LerxstCub on Aug 17, 2008 5:00 PM CDT reply actions

Gordon signed a contract to begin his career...

out of College,he will have to honor that contract if he wants to play in the NBA and no other teams decide to offer to take him up on his demands for 13mm a year….So,no other player prior to Ben has been able to totally tell a team that they will not play for what their contract calls for and pave their own way to make somebody pay them their worth,so…Ben will either sign for his QO,or accept the bulls offer, and I really don’t see anybody needing BG at his price…so,expect to see Ben in Red again, unless some team offers him 3 years at his asking price…but never 5-6 years for most of the teams around the league….But at least since the Bulls know BG’s stance, they can use that as an excuse to start deciding on trades or at least signing a bum or 2 in the weak Fa market that are still available!
