Summer League Game 2 reaction
Couldn't catch this one, though KC has a decent Rose-centric live reaction(s).
Reads like Rose played much better in this game. Being aggressive, leading the break, fighting through screens on defense. And unfortunately continuing to miss his jump shots.
And, of course, having to point to his knee afterwards is a bad sign, unless he was pulling a Beasley and singing "the knee bone is connected to the thigh bone"...

nice pass from rose to noah in transition for the slam
was the highlight of summer league so far.
now all that’s missing is that alley-oop pass from rose to tyrus for a monster jam.
is there anything else we need to see from these three guys this summer?

from KC's story:
“The coaching staff met late Tuesday to discuss shutting Thomas down for the week because he has met their goal of getting accustomed to Rose.”
Thomas and Rose had a lot of back and forth today…in both conversation and play. Often, during breaks, Rose would go over to Tyrus and talk to him. To me, it looked like Rose taking charge of the relationship and Thomas responding positively. I’m crossing my fingers, hoping for a budding rapport between those two guys.

Judging from the games so far
I don’t think he’s fully accustomed yet.
I haven’t seen one nice alley oop yet

If Tyrus could score consistently with any method other than a dunk
we wouldn’t have to bring up the alleyoop.

I dont know...
His jumper is getting better and better, and he can feed the post, he is the ideal high post player and pick and pop guy. He can catch and shoot, catch and shot fake and explode since he can handle the ball. He brings up the ball cause he used to play PG, its normal, it kind of never leaves, that helps him in the high post area. Last year the problem was teams would not guard him there so he had to shoot and he couldnt hit shots. If he can hit those and they have to guard him, get ready for some highlights, no alley oops needed. I am just saying its possible…

The Ideal High Post Player
Back when the Bulls were tied for the best record in the NBA for 5 years, they had a high post player and a high post play. They ran this play at least once if not several times a game. Everyone knew it was coming. No one could do anything about it. The name of the High Post Player (and also the all time leading rebounder in one game for the Chicago Bulls) is Tom Boerwinkle. And ya’ll thought all he could do is talk. Besides being a great rebounder, he was also a great passer. The play had a guard running a curl and Boerwinkle passing it over the top of his head and hitting that guard for a layup. Worked almost everytime.
Okay sorry for the time out but seeing “ideal high post player” made me write something.

Maybe they are thinking of withdrawing Tyrus so that Rose can take more shots and be the
focal point of the offense for the rest of the week. Thus far, Tyrus has dominated the offensive sets when he is on the floor.

I agree this could be what they're thinking
But coaches should be able to tell a 3rd year player what they expect from him if he’s doing something else. If not, they or the player is a problem…

I think Paxson/VDN just wanted Tyrus
to come in and get a positve vibe.
I thought he had a good game yesterday. I guess I don’t see what others here are calling his lazy play, etc., because I didn’t see that from him. He was first out on the break a lot—and Rose hit him with a couple of nice run-out passes that Tyrus turned into baskets +/or free throws.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Gray get a lot more burn these next few games.

tyrus is definitely
not accustomed to rose, and his game needs some more work, they should keep him on the floor the rest of the week

I'm with you
There is so much Tyrus needs to work on. Not going for the pump-fakes so much. (Really basic) Not driving to the basket like a headless chicken… Better help D. Blocking out. Getting an arm up on shooters (really basic again, but very important)
This doesn’t just pertain to Tyrus.
You don’t get accustumed to someone after two games, either!

Rose has to improve the jumper
Yesterday we saw a better Rose. Maybe because he wasn’t so nervous, he was more aggressive and the team benefited with that. He penetrated well and showed us what he can do when is running the fast break (that no look pass was great). But one thing everyone notice was that he HAS TO IMPROVE HIS JUMPER. So far, he I think he didn’t score one time that way. Even when the Bulls were shooting on warm-up before the game.
As far I notice, Rose and Tyrus are starting to get more accustomed to each other. So, why stop working now? Let them play together for the rest of the week. Maybe we will see that alleyoop that we want today, tomorrow or friday… He will show up some time.
Please Pax!!! Can you trade Hughes???

I agree.
If Rose can nail those perimeter jumpers, this will open up the Bull’s half-court game.

FYI: Game 2 Recording Availability
I have the entire game recorded. It’s 1.1GB as an ASF file. I converted this into avi file using xvid compression. The file was converted to 2GB. Whoops.
I’m trying another compression tool that will not force me to decrease the size of the video. Any smaller than 640×480 and it’s difficult to tell who is who on the court.

to me
i saw tyrus take way too many jump shots. u can work out with kevin martin all u want, but in games like these where he should be drving hard to the rim, he would spot up, do sum lame pump fakes and take a shot. there were times he wasnt running the floor on D too (few times noah was yelling at him to run). i know its summer league and it doesnt matter, but he better not have that attitutde this season. theres too much riding on him. and i did like that D Rose got to the basket more and made some more transition plays off the fast breaks, but the knee does worry me. and did aaron gray look a little faster u guys?

Gray was great down the stretch
The only person stopping him was himself. He was able to get near the rim whenever he wanted.
One new thing I noticed was how quickly he attacked after receiving the ball in the post. It was position, catch, GO. The more he went to it the better he performed.
He closed the game with Curry running the point. Curry was looking to get it to Gray whenever he could, but the Pacers then started to come set up a trap left wing 8 feet beyond the arc to force it out of Curry’s hands. The ball moved well and several times was fed back to the now open Curry for an easy three.
The Bulls bench was making all kinds of noise.

He looked SO out of shape yesterday…like he hadn’t done anything but drink, smoke pot and hang out since the season ended.

That's not good :(
But I’m also underwhelmed by TT and a little worried about knees…
Other than showing a nicer jumper I’m not seeing what I’d like from him. I don’t care if it’s summer league, bust your ass or don’t play. Don’t dog it. I know it’s a cliche but you play the way you practice… And his fundamentals still need alot of work…

Here
Take a look at this article from Hoopsworld . It talks about the dificult that Gordon may have on signing a new contract with the Bulls.
One restricted free agent in a difficult situation is Ben Gordon who at this point is a luxury for the Chicago Bulls. With Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich, Thabo Sefolosha and Larry Hughes under contract, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Chicago to give him a huge contract.
Please Pax!!! Can you trade Hughes???

Yap, the Bulls hold the cards
and BG feels “undervalued”
But he isn’t likely to get other offers so we’re basically waiting for him to come to his senses or sign the QO…

The QO won't help
You’ll still have a player playing their game in an open ended contract year. He’ll have the same motivation as last season, only he’ll hold all the cards after that season. That’s bad for the Bulls and great for BG.

I agree it's not ideal
But it’s better than overpaying in case last year was no fluke…
If he plays better next year I’m sure the offer will increase. The Bulls will probably still be in a position to offer the best contract. Most teams will likely be trying to shed payroll for 2010 anyways…

Fine, but why aren't we hearing about them talking w/ other teams?
Even if not one or other team is interested in either no matter the cost (impossible, of course, but I guess that’s what you’ll say), I’d still think we’d hear about Gordon’s and Deng’s agents contacting other teams. Either they both really want to stay, or the deals are just really close to being done.

No, I wouldn't say that :)
But I think the other teams know the Bulls are likely to match unless they offer them outrageous contracts. They are both off down years and not many teams really have this kind of money anyway.
That’s why I think you won’t hear about them talking to other teams :)

Tyrus and young bulls need accountability and passion most
Joakim’s out of shape but thats part of why he’s playing now.
Tyrus is scared of Drew Gooden pushing him farther out of lineup and thats good!
Derrick Rose is definitely the second best draft talent but his upside is massive.
Hinrich is an overachiever good bench plyr.Gordon reminds me of a junior-high kid with his carefree(and often inept) approach to the game.
Fact-Ben Wallace single-handedly killed the high work ethic and respect structure for Skiles of the young Bulls even Deng! Del Negro better make sure Derrick Rose accepts no laughing during blowouts on national TV. Noah’s got the same objectives and I respect a teammate that will cry after a loss! If Tyrus is scared of falling out of favor bad enough he’ll get on board too and thats his only chance of being an NBA starter IMO. Lets face it, he’s never gonna out think and strategize top big men. It’ll take passion 4the game to ride this out on physcal ability alone!
