Of the Hinrich rumors, that might be the one I like the most.

I live in Denver and they would REALLY like to get Kirk at PG, maybe more than any team out there.

It's scary to think 3 of our 5 starters could be out there...

But I expect Gooden to start at the 4 to start the year at least. I know it’s 2 quarters of a Summer League game, but this still isn’t encouraging.

did Rose even attempt an alley oop

in the 1st quarter (didnt catch it)?

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 5:06 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I mean, I guess...

Maybe a Rose blow by, all he has ot do is throw it up…im sure tyrus could grab it

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 5:09 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You can't grab the ball if there's 4 people crammed in the paint with no idea what's going on

Alley-oops require timing, something Rose would not have with his brand new teammates.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 5:11 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'll say it again. No spacing.

The one time he had space he made a move and took it to the rack. If you expected something other than this with Rose, you had the wrong expectations.

People, this is the first half of the first game of summer league.

The dire prognostications are a little crazy.

The only thing that concerns me (very very very slightly) at this point is that Rose keeps getting beat off the dribble. That was the achilles heel of our perimeter defense last year. Rose is supposed to be quick enough to guard the opposing point one on one. If he is going to be paired with Gordon over the long term, he needs to be a great defender.

I tink its not so much Rose...

as it is Tyrus and Noah…they should be containing these guys, and Tyrus should be dominating. He’s a third year player, he should be dropping 30 in these contests, against sup par competition…post the f*cuk up, go for a hook shot…something

A wise man once told me:

“Some people are just fuckin stupid, and they’ll probably have 7 kids who grow up to also be burdens on society. If you keep struggling against the tide of stupidity you will fucking drown in it.”

I’ve taken it to heart, maybe you should do the same.

Hence, Pax spending a lot of time trying to deflate expectations.

Derrick has the capacity to improve defensively, but he’s not a great defender yet. He’s also not great at the pick and roll. But when people spent the past couple of weeks dreaming of instant gratification, it seems like some started thinking it was reality.

I’m not getting the feed right now, but if he’s guarding Mario he’s also playing against a very quick and competent guard, so that’s not an easy first game match up if he’s a little nervous to start with.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

Let's get one thing clear about Beasley

He was not taken first overall because he is a douchebag. If he weren’t a douchebag – if he had average/neutral character/makeup, he’d have been the first pick, easy.

Unless and until Beasley shows maturity, or that he has become a different person, there should be no second-guessing, regardless of how much he tears up the summer league.

(Umm…but don’t actually hold me to that).

It doesn’t matter what you think about Beasley’s character – you’d have to be in denial to not recognize that it heavily influenced his ranking/placement by NBA teams selecting at the top of the draft

"dude"

sure you can say that character issues and a perception of immaturity was involved but calling him a douchebag makes me question your maturity. Also I think that it was used as an excuse to make an otherwise irrational choice because of the league’s current lust for point guards.

Shown no interest in upgrading....

Upgrade to what please? Would you have preferred we traded for Pau Gasol and made him the franchise player?

Tyrus Thomas has 2 years of NBA experience, both of which he has spent more time riding the pine than he should. In contrast, the Blazers freaking traded away their 20/10 player to give LMA a chance to shine, and he responded. It’s called showing faith in your draft picks. The Bulls have jerked Thomas around like he’s a spare part, given him no direction, and then criticized him when he doesn’t play well. In Philly, Thaddeus Young wasn’t getting minutes, the GM made his coach play Young, and he responded with production. Where was Pax the past 2 years getting on Skiles to play Tyrus? Sheesh, hate a player for not developing when he wasn’t given the right chance.

No doubt that Beasley looks great.

It’s also true that Rose is now having little trouble beating his man off the dribble. he is drawing a lot of attention in the lane.

He should free up out shooters.

somewhere in the mid 20s for shots

I didn’t watch the whole game, but saw at least 1 assist. 8 or 9 rebs? didn’t play in the 2nd quarter. like him or not, I think its fair to say that the Derrick Coleman comparisons look pretty stupid right now.

by darksmokepuncher on Jul 7, 2008 6:08 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by Big D on Jul 7, 2008 6:15 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

One summer league game

that is entirely in line with his college game.
it was also against guys who could easily be NBA starters.
and he didnt play in the second quarter.

I’m sure if you switched Rose and Beasley’s games, all the Rose fanatics would be hounding Beasley right now.

by darksmokepuncher on Jul 7, 2008 6:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I lived near Syracuse

when Coleman played there. DC was a beast in college. We went the Final Four twice with him and he set the NCAA career rebounding record. I had very high expectations of him going to NBA. It didn’t pan out. Why? DC got the money and lacked the desire to be a great player. He could have been one of the best PFs to play the game. He had the tools and the athleticism but lacked the work ethic. He had a decent NBA career but no where near where he should have been.

Beasley had one great college season and an impressive summer league game. The expectations are high. It would be quite premature to declare him a wild success at this point. He could very well reach his potential or he could prove the critics were right.

The bottom line is its foolish to put much stock in summer league games. Of course if you are in the pro Beasley camp I can see why you are wildly over emphasizing the game.

"If you're not going to compete, then I'll dominate you." MJ

*nods*

He took a lot. Not really a criticism in summer league when most people are acting pretty selfishly as a rule. In a real game he is going to have to balance it out.

Yeah everyone is out looking for their own

That’s why Noah was running around like a damn fool. If you told me he was our starting C and I never saw last season, I would be slightly concerned.

I don’t get the Noah hate. He was never going to be a dominant post player, but he was a bright spot for the Bulls last season. Now, after 1 bad game he’s worthless?

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:11 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

how the man has never figured out how to shoot a basketball…His shot is hands down, the worst in the NBA.

by smash! on Jul 7, 2008 6:14 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't pay that much attention to summer play

I would prefer we had a better game, but for me it doesn’t mean much. The spacing is all wonky, no on knows/follows the plays, everyone is shoot first (but Rose who never got the ball back after making the first pass…) and passing never, hacking and fouls everywhere, and a even good player surrounded by scrubs can look off. We know how Noah plays during the season and he was pretty good last year for the type of player we were expecting.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Jul 7, 2008 6:16 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Rose definitley needs to be more aggressive

The Bulls’ improving offense depends on his ability to penetrate the lane. We saw flashes of it, I want to see him do it more routinely tomorrow. The rest of these D-League scrubs can sit and watch for all I care.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

See what happens the next game

when someone will clue him into the fact being selfish in summer league is the norm and that we would like to see him run up his stats. While it would be nice if he could work on his PG skills in summer league it is perhaps not the place for it. If the people around you are not interesting in running plays you can force them to.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

by cranscape on Jul 7, 2008 6:21 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Honing his passing and whatnot is best suited for practice

Where they will run the same sets and plays over and over until he gets it. Here, everyone’s gunning for a spot and trying to impress, his act is going to make it seem like he’s timid and nervous.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:27 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True

What he needs to work on goes against the nature of summer league. I am hoping they make some adjustments and let him get a little looser on his own offense. I don’t think this will bother him and I don’t think he is actually nervous or weak, but judging by some of the, er, younger fans here regular people are easily swayed by summer league stats.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.

That's not why Tyrus is there.

He’s there to play and practice with Rose and develop some chemistry. He’s not there to take 21 shots in 22 minutes. That would be meaningless. Tyrus dominated in summer league last year and he could do it again this year, but that’s not why he’s there. Wrap your mind around that.

by Scotter on Jul 7, 2008 6:23 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

God, simmer down.

I just said I wish he would have inserted himself into the offense. Face the facts, Tyrus should have looked better than he did. Period. Hopefully he will tomorrow, but when he absolutely bricks several 3 footers, it’s not pretty. And “wrap your mind around this”- he didn’t dominate summer league last year. I watched every game and he was just OK.

Beasley with a very impressive stat line

Definitely came into today with a chip on his shoulder.

Noah and Rose need to improve their FT shooting. I don’t want Rose to be shooting 65% from the line as a rookie. I like he got to the line 8 times though.

Thomas had a decent game, a double double and 3 blocks. Noah must have been high.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:21 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes, because unlike you I don't put too much stock into these games

He played 18 minutes, was bad at first and looked decent afterwards. Maybe decent is too nice. “Meh” is more like it.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:29 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yah, its already established that it's a summer league game

which makes it even more worrisome….form a third year player…who has struggled his three years in the league…to struggle against rookies & scrubs…obviously, let’s not be worried, we have an OUTSTANDING frontline..

The guy can't play.

He’s a streak shooting scorer that doesn’t bring anything else to the table. You can be a star at the lower levels like that, but it doesn’t work in the NBA. He has bg scoring games and then he does nothing because he has no consistency with his shot.

by Scotter on Jul 7, 2008 6:40 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

a streak shooter who doesnt bring anything else to the table

so he’s ben gordon, but he is taller than 5-11…great

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 6:42 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ben Gordon is not a streak shooter. He's hit 41% from 3 for his career. He's also serviceable on D.

He’s not a great defender, but he’s not nearly as bad as he gets made out to be here and elsewhere.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 7, 2008 6:43 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

serviceable?? are you serious

guarding point guard’s….but hes NOT a pG…he’s a SG..and he cannot guard ANY sg’s

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 6:44 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah because Kirk can dominate every 2 guard in the league

How the hell has this team been one of the best defensive teams in the league? They are all midgets and suck…...right?

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i mean it's cool that you guys defened ben gordon and all...

he still can’t guard sg’s….all he can do is shoot, and thats it…he becomes a liability when our pg’s have to go and guard the 6-6, 6-8 sg’s of the league

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 6:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As does any 2 guard who isn't good at defense

Since most NBA players aren’t great individually on defense, that’s why having a strong team defense is important. When the Bulls play hard, they have an amazing defense. Thus, the fact that Ben is 6’2 in shoes doesn’t hurt so much. And if he’s killing us on defense, we can play Thabo, it’s not that complicated. There aren’t that many guards in this league that are exceptional on defense and offense, in fact there’s probably a max of 10.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:48 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

look...im just saying, he is a liability, because of his size..

hinrich has to swith over, and guard some1 who is 6-6, 6-7, 6-8…and he picks up dumb ass fouls, because he can’t take them…

He is a good player, i just think we’re better off with a taller SG (thabo – i thought we were doing well when thabo began to start up until he got hurt and we traded for hughes)

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 6:51 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Too bad Thabo can't score at all

I mean, it really is too bad. He shows flashes, but in general he’s a weak offensive player with a horrid jumper. Sure he’s solid on defense, but I think when a team is as bad as the Bulls, you put more emphasis on the offensive aspect of the game.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:54 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree...

which is why, although I love Rose, Beasley looked so enticing because of his Offensive abilities…but i think we def made the right choice..

when i criticized Tyrus it was because I didn’t see him post up, or some semblance of a development of a post game, which I would have liked to see….

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 6:57 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You're not going to get a post game....sorry

Tyrus looks infinitley better when he’s not making dumb mistakes. I don’t expect championship defense out of him during a glorified pick-up game with rules, but I would like to see some intelligence used when he decides to drive into the lane at full speed.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 7:02 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he's not a liability because of his size.

he’s a liability on defense because he’s not a great defender. his height has nothing to do with that. however, i’d say for his career that he’s more than made up for his defensive problems with his offensive prowess.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 7, 2008 6:59 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

height doesn't equal ability. we've had this discussion over and over on this blog.

he’s one of the best shooters in the league and isn’t a complete disaster on defense. the bulls couldn’t have been as good as they’ve been since he’s been here if he was as bad as you contend on the defensive end. Michael Redd is much taller than Gordon, but he’s an abject disaster on defense. Height does not equal defensive acumen. seriously.

by fundamentallysound on Jul 7, 2008 6:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yah, true....

would you say we would be more effective if we had some1 to take pressure off our guards…i think after our run in ‘07 teams began to press up on our guards…we had no1 to throw it down to….i think we def need someone to take pressure off hinrich, gordon and deng….maybe rose’s penetration is the answer

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 6:58 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You can trap a backcourt of BG and Kirk pretty easily

I doubt teams will be able to trap Rose well, and if they do their will be an open shooter every time to knock a jumper. If Rose plays aggressively, he makes life so much easier for this Bulls team. Kirk used to play like that, but it’s practically non-existent now.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 7:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yah...i always have

trouble watching gordon dribble around, lol…but yah, i think rose will def be able to help out, especially when guys are leaving gordon, deng or hinrich..even thomas with his new J

by Jbonelli on Jul 7, 2008 7:05 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And not every 2 guard in the league is worth that much concern

If they are playing against the Lakers, Pistons, Rockets, or Celtics, yes the Bulls are in for a rough night. If they play the Hornets and Mo Pete is their 2 guard, it makes no difference since all Mo Pete does is space the floor and shoot 3s. That’s why we have talked about for a while how important it is for Thabo to start showing some life on offense, because if he can be a starting 2, it solves one of the Bulls’ biggest weaknesses.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 7, 2008 6:51 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yah, but those are the teams we will ultimately have

to face….i give you that he is a gifted offensive guard, but i do not think hes the long term solution at the 2

anyways…im more bothered by our frontline than our guards, and its funnny i guess we were arguing about belin. when hes not even on our team

See I don't get why you are worried today of all days

Tyrus was this way last week, were you worried then? He got better as the game wore on. And if you’re looking for some post game you’re going to be disappointed. He’s not that type of player, he has a little jump hook, but his main move is to take it to the hoop aggressively or shoot a mid range jumper.

We already knew Noah was limited on offense, he has been for quite some time. He’s still a very good starting center for this team. He knows his role on offense and defense, and should average 10 boards a game for us this season. That’s what we want from him, the burden offensively is going to be on Rose, Deng, and BG. Tyrus shoudl chip in around 12, and whatever Noah gets will be gravy.

i never expected him to be

a dominant post player…but i mean, if he worked on his post game all summer, we could see some improvement? I also thought he was rail thin, although i guess that is good, since he is a “jumper” and any added weight would hinder that…it just makes me wonder whatw ill happen when he goes up against the bigger/tougher pf’s of our league

yah, i mean u have to remeber, we haent seen them play in so long…its just exciting to get them back and discuss what is going on…im pumped for this year, but i also like to dissect it, even if its just a summer league game….

Some advice then

If you’re going to criticize a player, don’t do it in a way that just bashes him. Say it succinctly, and there won’t be 20 commenters bashing you. Really, this blog lives off the criticism of the Bulls.

You shouldn't tell him how to blog.

And there are only a few people “bashing” him, mainly you. I think he’s got alot of good pts. But mostly I think you need to put your keyboard down and take a break.
