"After four years with the Bulls, point guard Chris Duhon is moving on, verbally agreeing to a deal with the Knicks on Friday, according to Duhon and his agent, Kevin Bradbury."

Good riddance

Smallball died a peaceful death today.

Starting point-guard for the Knicks - Chris Duhon - pathetic

This shows you how far the Knicks have fallen. If they buyout Marbury and have Duhon start it is indicative of how much the Knicks want to get rid of Marbury. Duhon as a back-up is barely acceptable. Duhon as the Knick staring point guard is unbelievable.

Why would they buy out Marbury?

Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to just let his contract expire? He’s batshit crazy, but I would never want my PG rotation to be Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson.

It doesn't make sense to me either!

This is not the first time I’ve read they really want to buy him out. You are totally wasting $20.8 million if you buy him out. My guess is he is a locker-room cancer and they want to start over. I’d at least keep Marbury as a backup. I think the Knicks want to begin over again knowing Marbury is not going to be there 2009-10.

The Knicks have sucked for like 6 seasons

And their fans still go to the Garden. Keeping Starbury on the team for another year won’t be a big deal, especially since the roster is going to be virtually the same from the past few years. It’s not like they need to clear house for Danilo Gallinari to flourish and channel his inner Toni Kukoc.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 4, 2008 3:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I do not see the Knicks improving over the next 2-3 years at minimal

Gallinari is a risky pick. They do not have one player to really build on. They are thinking of using Lee as trade bait, Crawford is 28 years old, Robinson should be on the Harlem Globetrotters. They are a lottery team for years to come.

I can't find a link now,

but didn’t the team vote that he not be allowed back after that suspension last year (following the altercation with Isaiah on the plane, I think?) And Isaiah let him come back anyway. As big a drop in talent as there might be, I can see things reaching a point where the team would rather suck this year (which was likely anyway) but be building some chemistry toward the future.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

Depending on who they can trade...

If they can’t Randolph (they sorta need to for 2010 cap space) and you can’t trade Curry, the Knicks need a point guard who isn’t trigger-happy and will control the number of touches between Randolph and Curry. It isn’t so much that those two have incompatible games from a floor-spacing perspective as it is they’re a couple of black holes and they need somebody to make a point of keeping both of ‘em involved.

Duhon can probably handle that. Besides, everything for the Knicks (and the Nets) is about duct tape until the 2010 free agent market.

2 years, $12 million?

I’m not sure my brain can comprehend the idea of Chris Duhon making $6 million a year. If he’s worth $6 million a year, what is Gordon worth?

by Big D on Jul 4, 2008 2:54 PM CDT reply actions

KC is now saying it's $12M - either the full MLE or very near it.

Which makes me think that Isiah is somehow still making contract decisions…

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

Guess Beno and the Kings set a kind market for back-up quality PGs, huh?

Agreed, it’s pretty crazy.

Why wouldn't the Knicks have pursued Jamaal Tinsley?

7 million a year+constant injuries+troubles with the law=

Not worth it, especially since his contract goes through the magical summer of 2010, that’s a waste of cap space. Besides, Starbury fills the “PG with skills but always injured to ever be important and draws too much attention to himself off the basketball court” spot quite nicely for the Knicks.

hahaha

the knicks are just going to get worse.

I'll just echo what's already been said

Starting PG? Maybe the Knicks watched the game he had against Golden State one too many times?

The money seems reasonable in a way, I just can’t believe the whole starting PG shit.

Good riddance

It’s finally the end of an era

D'Antoni + Duhon = ?

Maybe Duhon has some skills that involve taking the ball up in less than seven seconds and then shooting quickly? This marriage of D’Antoni to Duhon might be interesting. In a trainwreck kind of way.

Guess Coach K has been doing a nice job for his former PG,

talking him up big during Team USA practices or something.

Given that connection, you’d have to think D’Antoni would have bothered to ask Coach K about Du’s abilities. I’m just not sure how that would override 4 years of video and stats in the league.

Makes sense in a way for Du, though. I read the Orlando job was longer, but not starting. Maybe Du thinks he’ll run the team so well that he’ll be able to cash in again in a couple of years.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

D'Antoni showing love (and a big contract) for Duhon.

I’m kind of happy he’s not with the Bulls now :-)
(and I mean D’Antoni here, although I’m happy Duhon has gone too)

The Game chose him !
