Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

One Way to Go

Pax needs to make moves.

We've got a crowded back court, a crowded front court, and a glut of forwards.  We have very good players (Gordon and Deng) we need to sign, and good players (Hinrich and Nocioni) that we've signed for too much money.  We're also the youngest team in the league and we lack a viable, 1st scoring option.

Enter the New Jersey Nets.

It's no secret what the soon-to-be Brooklynites want.  They want LeBron in 2010.  They want contracts that expire in 2010, in order to collect the googolplex of dollars, pesos and euros it will take to woo his unstoppable greatness.  They also want a certain vein-bulging small forward, Andres Nocioni, according www.hoopshype.com.

I'm proposing Vinsanity and Stromile Swift for Andres Nocioni and Larry "This Way to Lebron!" Hughes.  The numbers works: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=356~2456~136~829&teams=17~17~4~4&te=&cash.  Stromile's contract is up in one year.  He's outta here, but might be a decent backup for Noah if the rumors about Aaron Gray's paramilitary summer prove to be false.

I know that Vince's numbers have declined.  And that he's oft injured.  But I'm saying the dude can still score, and you can still drop him the ball with the shot clock winding down.  At the very least, I'm saying he brings a heck of a lot more that Mr. Hughes. (Who brings nothing.)

Then trade Hinrich for Camby and here's what we've got:

Rose, Carter, Deng, Thomas and Camby as your starters, with Gordon, Sefolosha, Gooden and Noah as your bench.

Commence flaming me now.

One issue

I just don’t think the Nets will give Carter away that easily. The news I’ve heard said they had the chance to trade him for a straight salary dump during the draft and they refused. Hughes basically is a salary dump and I don’t see why they’d take that now. If they did, however, the Bulls should ask for a sign and trade Krstic instead of Swift. Otherwise not a bad idea to be honest… Carter has value and could be moved later if it doesn’t work out.

Agree

Carter may have his issues but I don’t think it would come that cheap. Maybe if we give Hinrinch instead of hughes it would work

I'm not into Carter at all

He has the ball in his hands too much and takes horrid shots.

Plus he’s one of those “star” players that may tempt the Bulls to play him, hence the development of Sefolosha and Rose.

At least the Bulls won’t feel so obligated to play Hughes

The problem is that they will feel obligated to play Hughes

Look at how much they played him last year. If they’re going to feel obligated to play an overpaid guard, it might as well be Carter, since he is better than Hughes.

But OzZiE serioulsy!

How can we pass up gettin a guy with the name “VINSANITY?”

the gReAt PoOhDinI with the lob to VinSanitY 4 da FlusH sON.” it’s no joke that vince carter is crazy-insane or insane-crazy, that’s actual and factual.

Going for it now is an interesting idea

With the general trend of teams shedding salary for 2010, we might be able to steal a championship by going the exact opposite direction.

But why go against our natural grain? We have the NBA’s best combination of youth and talent, and if Rose, Tyrus and Joakim develop correctly, we might be just one piece away from being a top contender for a long, long time.

To me, 2010 is the obvious path. By shedding the contracts of Hinrich, Nocioni, and either Gordon or Thabo, we’ll be able to offer the max for Wade, Bosh, Dirk, and make a run at LeBron that he’ll at least have to consider.

The Wizards, Pistons, and Celtics of the league should be the ones thinking about winning now. Not us.

The fun thing is that a whole heck of a lot of teams seem to be on the 2010 plan.

There’s a lot of time for things to settle out a bit, but that is going to be one interesting summer if even half of the big names decide they want a change in location. I’m curious to see where various people are going to want to play.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

i really doubt nets will give up carter

carter is pretty much the only thing nets have until 2010 to attract fans and pretty much the only thing that can keep their team alive for now. if they trade away carter they pretty much have nothing at all.

Forget all the Carter stuff. But I really like the idea of

trading Noce with the idea of including Larry Hughes cause he comes off the books in ‘10. The Bulls should really investigate that harder. Something like Hughes and Nocioni for a contract (not sure of NJ situation) and a future first rounder, Trading Noce would be worth it just to get rid of Hughes, unless there’s a real sucker out there that really wants to overpay.

no carter

i wouldn’t trade for vince. he’s soft as twinkes. and i don’t think he would fit in here in chicago. but kirk for camby could be possible.

the youngest team?

on draft night it seemed to be Portland.

"Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious."

by bulls*hit on Jul 4, 2008 10:26 PM CDT reply actions

Portland was the youngest last season until the Bulls traded Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and A-Drain

in for younger models. After that, the Bulls edged them out. I haven’t seen anything “official” for the coming season yet, but it doesn’t make sense to bother trying to figure it out until the rosters are set. The Bulls added a 19 year old, but Portland had more rookies and traded away Jack so they may be younger again.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

Carter

You know what, I agree I like Carter… We should even make this bigger and get rid of Hughes, Noc, and A sign and traded BG, (just hughes and Noc wont cut it for Carter, NO WAY), for Carter, Kristic, Stro, and Hassle. I think a Line up of Rose, Carter, Deng, Ty, and Noah with backups Kirk, Thabo, Thabo or Hassle or even maybe try Ty T here sometimes, Gooden/Stro and Kristic/Gray/Gooden. Lots of flexibility and can play Big with Ty at the 3, can play small with Rose, Kirk, Vince, Deng and a big, can play fast with rose, thabo, deng, ty, noah.. play slow with kirk, vince, Deng, Gooden, Kristic. Can play Defense with Rose, Thabo, Hassle, Deng/Ty/Gooden, Noah or even Kristic against heavy guys. And throw in a little Rose, Deng, Ty, Stro, Noah line up for fun.. I dunno.. I think we would be kind of a good team
