Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Hmmm, why would Phoenix want Hinrich when they have Nash?

again, just SamSmith-esque ponderin
Would the Bulls, who are still sparring with Luol Deng on a contract and looking to move Kirk Hinrich’s contract, entertain the idea of swapping Hinrich for Diaw (they have almost identical contracts) and then go after some center depth with their last roster spot?

There is no indication that the Suns and Bulls have talked. But Hinrich is a name that has intrigued the Suns in the past, and they will have to get creative in picking up a point guard. Barnes’ pleasantly unexpected arrival gives them more chips to play.

Intrigued which Suns personnel?

The guys that are all gone? D’Antoni, Colangelo, Del Negro?

Is it Kerr? Who else is even still in Phoenix that could fill the role Sam has created?

they'd want him because 1) they wanna focus more on D

2) they need a capable backup for when Nash gets hurt or needs to rest his back (as he does every year) 3) Nash isn’t going to be playing forever, they need someone to take over the reins at some point. 4) Hinrich could play alongside Nash because he can hit open shots and defend pretty well. He’d be a great fit out in Phx, actually.

I agree, he would be a great fit

but he would be a pretty expensive backup, no?

Diaw is a pretty

expensive back-up that has also regressed. I wouldn’t do the trade mentioned, but Kirk would definitely be an upgrade over Diaw for a similar contract, even if they do lose some size.

He'll play some SG

And Nash’s contract is only guaranteed through this upcoming season. Suns hold the option on the 09-10 season.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Nash was traded either before this season or during next season.
