the thing is

posey really only could get the MLE from someone, no one was able to offer him more…

though no, that doesn’t excuse the noc contract.

But I actually liked the Hornets :(

He will fit nicely in their quiet yet trash-talky roster. Maybe Tyson can learn how to get away with fouling on every possession from him.

I was a multiple time all star throughout my little league career. Won 5 championships- 4 in a row- thats more in a row than MJ… (kenwo4life@aol.com)

It'll be harder for them to bitch about Bowen

Especially since Bowen is making 4 mil per less than Fosey.

Alright, none of us like Posey

but this is the most significant move from a top team this summer. The Heat and Celtics might not have won titles without Posey, who defended Josh Howard (31/80 shooting in 2006 Finals) and LeBron (55/155 shooting in the second round this year). Posey himself shot over 41% from 3’s over those two playoff runs.

Celtics have now lost Posey and P.J. Brown, making their current bench (Leon Powe, Eddie House, and unprovens Patrick O’Bryant, Bill Walker, and J.R. Giddens) one of the league’s worst.

Is there an Eastern Conference team that’s definitely better than the Bulls in a seven game series right now? A lot would have to go right, but there’s a tiny, tiny window opening up for ‘09.

by YaoPau on Jul 16, 2008 6:01 PM CDT reply actions

I'm with you on the Posey thing.

The guy is the best bench/role player in the game. Put him on the Lakers, and they win the title. I realize it would have been a huge commitment for Boston to make, but given their repeat window is NOW because of the collective age of the Big 3, I think it’s silly they let him walk. Good luck trying to replace everything he brought to the table, Boston.

But as far as your last comment…

Is there an Eastern Conference team that’s definitely better than the Bulls in a seven game series right now?

Really?

Hollinger disagrees with us

link, although no statistic will show the value of a guy who’s been there before and won it all.

Last comment, okay. The East has become more top-heavy (Philly, Toronto, Milwaukee, Washington
should all be better next year), but the elite teams (Boston, Detroit, Cleveland) haven’t improved at all. Ray Allen, Billups, Rasheed, and Big Z are all a year older, and their teams haven’t added a single piece.

So can we beat an aging Celtics team that lost Posey and Brown and was pushed to a game 7 by the Hawks? An aging Pistons team that we took three of four from last season? A Cavs team that starts a 34 year old Ben Wallace? We might not be favored, but those teams aren’t that much better than us.

The Sixers might be, though, because of their tall backcourt and strong, physical big men. But we should be pretty good, too.

by YaoPau on Jul 16, 2008 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I think we need to wait and see how our roster shakes out

before we start making any predictions.

...but Rose/BG/Deng/Tyrus/Gooden with Kirk, Noc, Noah, Thabo, Hughes off the bench would certainly look pretty damn decent in the East…

Posey

I hate Posey, lets make that clear. I cant stand him, but he is good and if he played for us we would call him rugged and tough and doing what it takes to win. Good move for Hornets short term for couple years, then last 2 years, ouch…

by NamingRightsOnSale on Jul 17, 2008 1:49 AM CDT reply actions

Guess I can't be happy for the Hornets anymore...

...they are hereby added to my “nemesis” list.

They’ll be thugged out by playoff time…I can even see people calling them the new “Bad Boys.” In fact, I’ll bet someone could come up with a pretty good post comparing the late ‘80’s Pistons with next year’s Hornets…hmmm, dynamic point guard (Paul is the new Isaiah), fast paced style of play, intense defense (Chandler is the new Salley), and now they even have a certified dirty player (Posey is the new – take your pick – Mahorn/Laimbeer/Rodman)....Scotter, are you up to the task for another statistical analysis?

by POSEYHATER on Jul 17, 2008 10:00 AM CDT reply actions

So which contract is worse?

31 year old Posey at 4 years, 25 million
27 year old Nocioni at 5 years, 38 million

Most people seem to like this for NO but kill the Noc contract. Nocioni is a SF/PF like Posey, shoots 3s just as well, average 9 more points per 40 (12 vs. 21) and is 4 years younger. The only thing Posey does noticeably better is play defense.

by CJ Bulls on Jul 18, 2008 3:30 PM CDT reply actions

Both are bad contracts

Posey will look solid for 2 seasons, but his age will catch up to him. New Orleans clearly thinks they need only a few minor changes to make the Finals, so it’s a good gamble from their perspective.

They're both bad,

But Posey comes with some additional hardware which he had a impact in attaining it. When teams are winning titles (or very close to it) you can justify paying a little more for a final piece.

by kingj41 on Jul 18, 2008 3:41 PM CDT up reply actions

So if Nocioni was on the Celtics last year...

And Posey was on the Bulls, the Celtics wouldn’t have won the championship? Seems a bit of a stretch.

by CJ Bulls on Jul 18, 2008 4:09 PM CDT up reply actions

What happened happened and can't be challenged

I’m not directly comparing the players, I’m pointing out the facts. Again, both contracts are bad from my point of view, but Posey hit some big shots and played some good D in the playoffs. He could be the ‘X’ factor in the Western Conference playoffs next year. We don’t know that yet, but the impact that he’s had the past few years lean more toward that being a strong possibility, not a stretch.

by kingj41 on Jul 18, 2008 4:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Posey

comes across a little smarter with his “toughness” than Noc is. He knows where to apply the elbows and gets away with it. Which can be an asset to a team wanting to make those final moves to push them to the top. Posey seemed to be everywhere he needed to be in the Celtics games and didn’t get phased by whatever might have been going on before he was called onto the floor. He just calmly did his thing. I was pretty impressed with his impact with the Celtic (and the Heat, though of course I did not like him using his tactics on our players). Noc tries too hard and gets wild at times shooting early into the shot clock and flopping and talking to the refs. But if you listen to what other players say, he seems to also get under people’s skin like Posey. I’d say Posey’s contract isn’t bad. He isn’t going to be playing tons of minutes so his age isn’t going to be as big of factor as if you were thinking of him as a 35 min a night guy. If you are close to a championship with a window of the next few years he is a good piece to add.

Everything I post is speculation. I have no insider information nor ideas deemed concrete enough by those who are self-elected to regulate post content.
