From a hoopsworld article (therefore take it with a big grain of salt) :

Paxson on His Way Out?

Speaking of Luol Deng, Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has removed John Paxson from the discussion with Luol Deng and his agent, Jason Levien. Reinsdorf was already unhappy with the way the coaching search went, specifically with Paxson's inability to get Doug Collins wrapped up, and now he's unhappy that the Deng discussion is taking so long. It's not a good sign for Paxson that he's now being excluded from player discussions.

I'm personally happy that we didn't get Doug Collins, but if true, this is not reassuring as regards Jerry Reinsdorf basketball vision for his team.

this was also brought up on the Bulls RealGM board

and the poster giving any credence to the article was ridiculed. Hoopsworld is a joke, and that story seems to be based on the Marc Stein article that’s been discussed elsewhere on this board that mentions Luol’s negotiations are being handled by JR now. The Hoopsworld author seems to have cribbed that story and jumped with wild speculation to the conclusion that Paxson was on his way out, even though this has been standard JR practice for a while (negotiating with players on contracts). It’s silly and there’s no grain of salt large enough to qualify for what you’d need for this story. Move along, nothing to see here…

I think we need to declare this a hoopsworld-free zone.

Not to mention

from everything reported it was Reinsdorf, not Pax, that (thankfully) didn’t wrap up Collins.

That's just complete and utter bullshit

No disrespect to you, but if you read the stories from the past few months, you would know Reinsdorf is the one who screwed up the coaching search. He wasn’t urgent enough when it came to D’Antoni, then he (thankfully) didn’t want this personal relationship with Collins messed up. Also, by not giving out a sense of urgency, they missed out on experienced coaches like Carlisle.

Reinsdorf has always handled negotiations for certain players. The guy made his money in real estate, he relishes negotiating. He’s a very loyal guy. He won’t just fire Paxson because they didn’t get a big name head coach.

Especially realizing that Hinrich and Nocioni are overpaid...

...wouldn’t you handle future negotiations? hahaha or something

I wonder if Reinsdorf thinks in that "Chicago Tough" manner

When was the last time he doled out money to someone who was dominant offensively? Tyson, Corpse, Kirk, and Noce were all extensions to guys who for a better lack of words are “hustle players.” Kirk certainly has more depth than that, but it’s his defense that makes him such a valuable guard for the Bulls, not his circle dribbling.

he may

for all I know, signing ‘Noh-See-Oh-Nee!’ (::clap-clap-clapclapclap::) is good business regardless of performance.

And to go further into mindreading mode, I’d bet Reinsdorf is a bit miffed Deng/Gordon didn’t sign last year, and took it as some sort of insult.

I'll see your mindreader...and raise you one.

I think Reinsdorf’s actually excited the guys didn’t sign last year…because that means now he can really get in there and go toe-to-toe with them. We’re already seeing it with Deng, and I don’t think Gordon’s far behind.

Without passing on the dubious assertions

It’s hard for me to believe there’s not some second-guessing between Pax and Reinsdorf after the coaching search.

From the articles I read, it seemed pretty clear that Pax was sold on D’Antoni and Reinsdorf put some breaks on it.

One way to read that is that “it’s Reinsdorf’s fault for screwing things up”, but it seems more simple to say that he was more or less exercising his veto. The situation then seemed a bit reversed to me when it came to Collins. By the accounts I read, Collins approached Reinsdorf directly, and mainly spoke with Reinsdorf. In fact Reinsdorf said as much. I know if I were Pax, I wouldn’t be too eager to hire Collins if he’d effectively gone over my head to get an interview.

So whether this article is BS or not, and it most likely is, it seems very likely to me that Paxson and Reinsdorf came out with more questions about each other than they previously had.

makes sense..

In Paxson’s defense, Reinsdorf’s seems to be a live wire and probably has some loose screws. Paxson probably longs for the opportunity to have a real GM position.
