Reportedly, the Knicks are rejecting a trade offer from the Clips for Zach Randolph because they want more than cap relief for Randolph. Seriously?!

I was baffled by that, too.

You’d think with their luxury tax situation that they’d have signed off on that before the Clips had time to come to their senses. Especially when by all reports they aren’t exactly expecting (or expected) to challenge this season anyway, and have plenty of guys they can slot into those minutes.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

It seems baffling

but I’m betting D’Antoni wants to ‘fix’ what little talent is already on the roster. We’ll see what happens 50 lazy airballs into the season.

D'Antoni may want to fix Zach,

but I would have expected Walsh to be more interested in dumping the salary. Maybe they’re still in the honeymoon stage of playing all nicey-nice together.

And if D’Antoni’s honestly excited about dealing with both Zach and Eddy, to the point of passing up a chance to move one, then I’m beginning to understand how he picked New York in the first place.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

yup

I’ve never read the book about D’Antoni and the Suns (if I ever read a book about sports, it’s going to be penned by Paul Shirley), but he certainly seems a little too sure of himself in interviews. This is all stuff I rip other people for, but there was quite a bit of speculation about D’Antoni looking to prove himself. NY offered plenty of problems to solve, and even more microphones and cameras to make sure no one will miss a second of it.

Donnie Walsh isn’t the GM, or coach. D’Antoni really could be in charge of shaping the roster, and Walsh is just there to make sure Jerome James doesn’t get an extension. Hey, Steve Nash is a 2010 free agent!

I recommend you read it. If you can like Shirley, you'll like this

You do get a sense of ego from the Suns’ staff, but I honestly think all coaching staffs tend to think critically of their opponents.

D’Antoni is not a bad guy, his only flaws are that he’s incredibly whiny when it comes to refs, and is incredibly stubborn about his roster, (both noted by the author).

Z-Bo's stock couldn't be lower.

Most think he doesn’t fit into a D’Antoni offense.

But Z-Bo has to bounce back somewhat from that waste of a season. His value will go up – and then the Knicks can trade for cap relief and maybe a good young prospect or two.

Why take that chance, though?

A) How good of a prospect could they really get?
B) One injury to Randolph screws them.
C) Hardly any team is under the cap come mid-season (and typically only a few in the off-season), meaning they’ll have to match salaries, and no one is going to give up shorter contracts for Randolph almost mo matter how good he is.

I agree - in a few more weeks no one will be under the cap to afford Randolph.

They blew their chance to rid themselves of Randolph with Clippers (2nd to losing Brand). Who else would be willing to take on that salary? Unbelievable!

knucks 08-09

I still can’t believe they blew the whole MLE on Duhon. He’s the perfect guy for other teams to back off of to make it tougher to get the ball to fat Zach or fatter Eddy.

Hey wait a minute

We can give them Drew Gooden and for that make them take Larry Hughes back too… for not even a 2nd round pick, I would settle for cash considerations
