Count the Nets out of any Nocioni deal
Consider their scrappy quotient filled:
The Nets have come to an agreement in principle on contracts for free agents forwards Eduardo Najera and Jarvis Hayes, according to a league official familiar with the negotiations.
Najera will receive a four-year contract that will average roughly $3.0 million, but is structured with a smaller salary on the back end so that the team will still have some flexibility in 2010, when they want to play the free agent market.
Hayes will receive the lower-level exception, which prices out to salaries of $1.91 million next season and $2.06 million for 2009-10.

Oh man,
Eduardo Najera was so cool on the Nuggets. Good for him to land a spot in New Jersey. GO EDDY

damn it.
Now who are we gonna pawn Nocioni off on?
by fundamentallysound on Jul 11, 2008 2:23 PM CDT 0 recs
I didn't really expect
Nocioni to be traded this offseason but I had some strong hope for it. Now those chances are looking less and less likely.
This is shaping up to be a disappointing offseason…from a rookie head coach, to Rose not completing summer league, to the probable non-trade of Noce, to the possible trade of BG.
Any happiness I had from the #1 pick is totally sapped.

I wouldn't go that far
but so far post-draft it has been a bit of a downer.

I'll put it this way
I’d rather have it play out this way, then having the #9 pick, dealing Noc, signing BG, etc…

But we could have had Brook Lopez!

If the Nets
can swing a sign and trade sending Nenad Krstic to Denver for Marcus Camby like it was proposed in that article, then that would essencially eliminate two possible post players the Bulls could have gone after. Noc for Krstic (not likely now) and or Hinrich for Camby. FU Rod Thorn!

Kristic is like a Serbian Malik Allen
(if he’s Serbian)

Krstic is like Malik Allen...
except he’s bigger, better, younger and can actually score a little in the post. Other than that yes they are both tall men, both play basketball and both can shoot from the outside.
He would intantly be the best post scorer on the Bulls and would be a nice complement to Noah. Krstic is closer to a poor man’s Pau Gasol, but not quite as wimpy.
He’s Yugoslavian, I think

Nenad is like Malik Allen because he's below average and sucks at rebounding

agreed
but even as a belove average player he still would be an upgrade offensively at the center position over what we have now (Noah & Gray). And Allen was never considered as good of player as Nenad was. Plus if all you had to do was give up Noc and his ridicuous contract then why not bulster the center position and keep Gray permenatly on the bench. This is of course assuming you don’t have to take on more years than what Noc has.

Noah is better offensively
His 109 ORtg last season was higher than anything Nenad ever posted.

I'm sorry
but here’s an instance where stats lie. Anyone whos ever seen Kristic and Noah play knows Kristic is better on offense.

it's not a lie, it's what happened
Noah produced more points per 100 possessions last season than Nenad ever has. Noah turned the ball over more, but he’s a better ball handler and passer (I watched him! SHOCK!). He put the ball in the basket more, and he used a smaller percentage of team possessions to do it.

Because he's a better shooter and has more "moves"?
This isn’t one-on-one and grabbing offensive boards to put back, finishing around the basket and being able to hit open teammates is just as available, if not moreso, than having a mediocre jumpshot and back-to-the-basket game.

haha
if Kristic’s jumper is mediocre, whats that make Noah’s? Have you watched summer league? Noah can’t score on the likes of Justin Gray, David Padgett, Justin Williams… There’s plenty of explanations for why Noah was more efficient on offense this year (teammates, offense, situation) but I’m sorry, he’s not better.

this isn't a straw man: citing summer league play is stupid
Noah put up better scoring numbers during the NBA season.

ok
but I’m talking about his game not just last season. Kristic had a great PER the year before last and you can’t think ORtg is a perfect stat unless you think Brad Miller has had a better career on offense than Kobe.

he only played 26 games in 2006-07, and I was comparing careers
When did I say ORtg was perfect? I was using it as a simple measure of offense. Points can be produced through field goals, free throws, assists, and offensive rebounds.

Noah's jumper sucks, obviously.
And offense is more than just scoring. If you believed that, you’d love Gordon. But you don’t, because you recognize that being a complete offensive player is about more than just putting a ball in a hoop. It’s also about…

Well since Noce is never going to the Nets
I’d say trading for Kristic isn’t an option. And, for a 7 foot center he rebounds like a SG, and has only played 64 games the past 2 seasons. Unless we can get him for Larry Hughes or Aaron Gray, I’ll pass.

well, it was a bit of hyperbole
but while he can score a bit in the post (46% of shots were jumpers in his last good season…not in the 70s like Allen or Joe Smith), I wouldn’t call him the great ‘post presence’. He can’t rebound either.
That said, he wouldn’t be a bad fit because he’d be a big man who can shoot, of which the Bulls don’t currently have. But that’s a spare part, and I’m sure he’d take more than necessary to acquire and sign, plus he’s yet to come back (and he should have by now) from a major injury.

The Bulls can still get Krstic...
He is a RFA. If the Bulls offer him a back loaded four year deal near the MLE, then there is a good chance NJ will not match…but if BG and LU sign their extensions, then we would be in luxury tax territory, not a likely scenario.
by Dionysus2.0 on Jul 11, 2008 9:34 PM CDT 0 recs
Why would the Bulls want to spend money on Kristic who seems to be always hurt? Kristic can score and is 7 feet tall. But, I feel we wouldn’t have enough minutes for everybody if we add Kristic. Thomas, Noah, Gray, Gooden, and Nocioni in the front court is enough.
