Baron Davis to be a Clipper

Less than 24 hours after opting out of the final year of his contract in Golden State, Baron Davis agreed Tuesday to become a Clipper, league sources told Marc Stein. Davis, 29, will receive a five-year deal worth an estimated $65M

That was fast.

Unfortunately, it’s still the Clippers.

I don't know man

A healthy Brand and a motivated Baron is kinda scary. Not to mention a good Center in Kaman and role players will want to go play for them.

Brand still might not come back

Miami with Wade and Beasley is still a better landing spot IMO. The Clippers are just destined for failure.

Sounds like Brand opted out just so the Clips could make a run at a FA

I don’t think this makes the Clippers more than a playoff team in the West. They probably won’t have the depth to challenge the Lakers, Spurs, Jazz, Hornets, or Rockets. Even then, it’s not like they’re building around Garnett, Pierce, and Allen.

Brand built up a lot of investments in the entertainment business

in LA that he’s pretty hands on with. Which has made he skeptical that he would ever leave LA unless they totally rebuilt. Kaman, Brand, and Davis is a pretty decent big three if they manage to stay healthy. Probably not good enough to get out of the West, but good enough to get Sterling some playoff cash.

Sterling spends like a drunken sailor now

Gotta give Reinsdorf some of that LA sun.

You think Brand and Davis had this plan in mind?

Baron also is pretty involved with the entertainment business, and has been a LA favorite for years.

That's the rumors being reported right now.

Brand opting out got them under the cap to sign Baron and luckily for the Clippers When Maggette opted out too that cleared enough room for Brand and Davis both to get paid.

Yeah, Brand's probably not going anywhere.

Me thinks Riley’s going to have to wait on Boozer.

Maggette has got to be kicking himself

The Clippers are going to have to renounce his rights to re-sign Brand, so he won’t be able to do a sign-and-trade. He’s probably looking at just a midlevel deal now, since not many teams are under the cap.

He played 82 games last year

and given the fact that he was playing way too many minutes, that’s says to me that he’s finally healthy.

I think this affedts the Bulls on a few fronts.

If you take a look at Baron Davis’ deal, it’s reportedly 5 years for 65 mil. So that means that 65 Mil. would be an absolute ceiling for both Deng and Gordon’s contracts considering Davis is a better player with more of a track record. In Gordon’s case it should be significantly less. Secondly, now there is one more team out there (G State) in need of a point guard and will likely have interest in Hinrich. Thirdly, the Brand back to the Bulls posts can finally stop cause this all but guarantees his return to LA. Lastly, I highly doubt it, but maybe L.A would consider moving Kaman seeing as him and Brand kind of duplicate eachother and they could use another wing after the departure of Maggette. The Bulls would probably have big time interest if he was somehow made available.

Brand and Kaman don't duplicate each other.

They’ve already proven they can play together in the playoffs. Elton became a jump shooting high post player years ago. Kaman is their low post guy.

What I meant with the duplication thing

is that neither one is very defensive oriented. And on a championship caliber team you’d like to have some sort of defensive prescence in the paint. They would be fantastic together offensively of course.

Nice.

Recced.

Soooo, if the Clips are really trying to do something here...

Don’t you think they could use a PG? Kirk’s already used to playing with one Gordon who’s missing handles but can shoot the lights out… perfect fit!

by smash! on Jul 1, 2008 9:49 PM CDT   0 recs

Baron Davis is a PG.

Mobley/Eric Gordon will split time at SG most likely.

Easy now...

We should all be allowed to be idiots once in a while. Yesterday was my day:)
(Honestly, I was stuck on a mind-numbing phone call and when I made that comment I was only thinking about the Elton Brand playing with Chris Kamen comments & completely lost track of the Baron Davis addition.)

I kid, I kid

all in fun. And No, you’re not allowed to be an idiot! Get with it

Baron will flip shit if he's not playing PG

Besides, they have chunky style Gordon as their 2 guard.

That's a pretty FreeDarko backcourt.
