Hinrich or Gordon to New York for Randolph?

I'm living in New York for the summer and have been hearing some disturbing rumors being talked about a move involving Zach Randolph.  I work with a bunch of Knicks fans and they have been gloating about how they are going to unload Zach Randolph on the Bulls.  I've seen rumors on http://thehoopdoctors.com/online/?p=88, and there was some chatter on ESPN 1050 about a potential deal. It would be either Hinrich or Gordon along with Drew Gooden for Z-Bo and Malik Rose.  I remember last summer there was a lot of debate among BaBers on Randolph, and I can only hope we pass up this deal.  He obviously help in the some of the areas that Z-Bo would help, but taking minutes away from Tyrus seems ludicrous to me.  Although we want to unload Hinrich, I don't want to bring somebody back that would push Tyrus to the bench, especially after all of my dreams involving Rose to Tyrus alley-oops.

The only good news that I have found with the Knicks, is that they are interested in bringing in Duhon.  I would love to listen to Knicks fans whine about the same things we hated about him.  Can you imagine what kind of pictures of him would be online if Duhon was living in NYC? That would be priceless.

Zach Randolph is going nowhere

Aside from Marbury, probably one of the most unwanted players in the NBA. Comical how both of them are on the same team.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 1, 2008 2:33 PM CDT reply actions

Seriously

Zach Randolf? Starbury? Jamal Crawford? EDDY CURRY??!

Who knew that so much talent, could be so wrong. That team would be dominating if every player actually worked hard, and not just at getting off thier own shots. I mean Zach Randolf Is a black hole, on and off the court, Stephon Marbury is the prime example of shoot first (and second, and third) pg, Jamal Crawford just wants to meet his quota of 50 shots per game, and eddy curry is on the Sweetney diet.

If walsh is somehow able to unload those guys, and get this team to 40 wins even, i would expect that the knick fans would outglow those blazers fans

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, Bullshooter, and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light....

I agree

But 1050 made it sound like Walsh walked away from the deal when Pax tried to include Hinrich instead of BG. The idea of Pax even answering the phone when the Knicks called makes me really worried

‘‘I kind of got used to wearing No. 23, but I know it’s not going to happen in Chicago,’’ he said. ‘‘But that’s a small price to pay for playing in my hometown.

And if I hosted a radio show

I could make it sound like Kupchak offered a S&T involving Bynum to the Bulls for Drew Gooden, Hinrich, and Noah, but Kupchak walked away from the deal with Pax tried to include Gray instead of Noah.

I'd take David Lee in a heartbeat.

While I’d avoid Zach Randolph like the plague.

Why expose your most promising rookie to the cancer that is Zach Randolph and Zach Randolph’s posse? While we’re at it, we may as well get Darious Miles, Roy Tarpley and Isiah Rider to mentor the third generation of Baby Bulls.

Why would you take David Lee?

To take minutes away from Tyrus and replace Gooden with a skinnier (paler) version of himself?

by smash! on Jul 1, 2008 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Because he never gives up on any play,

he’s athletic enough to stay with just about any big man in the league, and he’s young and still on his rookie contract (I think?). Yet he’s not going to demand star minutes, nor will he ever demand the offense run through him, nor will he provide the highlight reel plays of a Tyrus Thomas, so he likely won’t demand starters’ minutes at Tyrus’ expense. His sytle of play makes me think he probably won’t lose value, either, unless he gets injured, and therefore at the very least he will always be useful as trade filler.

Before I expound upon this...

You’re saying you would trade Hinrich or Gordon for David Lee, yes?

by smash! on Jul 1, 2008 9:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Ha ha, no. :|

I’m just saying David Lee would be a positive addition to a ball club.

While acquiring Zach Randolph would be akin to voluntarily giving yourself the plague.

That’s all.

Actually

I think I read somethind about that trade (Hinrich for Lee) somewhere. Don’t ask me about a link, because I don’t remember where it was, but i can assure that I read that…

Please Pax!!! Can you trade Hughes???

Found it
The Bulls, who desperately tried to get David LeeDavid Lee in the Eddy Curry deal three years ago, are also expected to shop Kirk Hinrich and restricted free agent Ben Gordon.

You don't think Dr. Browntorious is credible?

I saw that link on a Knicks Blog, but I guess everything associated with the Knicks is crap.

i have nothing against blogs (clearly) or knicks blogs

but if you’re going to pass off rumors first-hand…I’d have to at least somewhat believe that they have sources.

I didn't mean to pass it off like that.

It was more just trying to voice my horror that I heard that on the radio. That obviously doesn’t give it the credibility a report from the guys at ESPN or the Trib, but it sounded like a source with the Knicks leaked that. I’ll be more careful with fanposts in the future, but I almost left work and headed to the bar if that turned out to be true.

heh

don’t worry, this is certainly fanpost-worthy, especially if it’s on NY radio. Doesn’t mean we can’t laugh off the reports themselves…

They avoided Beasley with "character issues" in mind no doubt

Zach freaking Randolph!!!!! The epitome of Jail Blazers, got in a fight with his teammates, and is a fat sack of crap. Paxson wouldn’t touch this with a 2×4.

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 1, 2008 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

The Bulls didn't have concerns with Beasley's character issues.

They just liked Rose better. If there was no DRose, Paxson would be just as giddy to snatch Beasley at no 1. He even tried hard to get him in addition to Rose. Riley had no interest in the package…

by smash! on Jul 1, 2008 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Still, the point being ZR's character issues,

it’s hard to see Pax even considering it.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

by wjb1492 on Jul 1, 2008 4:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Totally.

Pax wouldn’t even think about it.

by smash! on Jul 1, 2008 4:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Lets not dismiss the Duhon to NY rumors though.

ESPN has some rumors listed, as does RealGM. I’d be so happy to see Duhon in New York, or anywhere but Chicago for that matter. Him in New York would just continue with the trend of sending our castoffs to NY.

The thing is Marbury isn't that bad of a player

The team is just trying to tread water until all their bad contracts expire, and D’Antoni is probably the best coach Marbury will have (Larry Brown and his condescension notwithstanding).

by Ozzie Montana on Jul 1, 2008 4:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I used to think Marbury was still a bit underrated as a player

due to all the extra crap, but that was a few surgeries ago.

I remember an SI article about the two

that lauded Marbury as a rare pass-first PG who was a perfect match for Garnett.

Marbury/Starbury

is case and point how not to tap into your extremely high potential, how not to develop your inherernt gifts and instincts, how to fall from grace as a folk hero in the Coney Island and end up as a washed up nobody with nothing to point ot that says you might have been great once. He’s not a has been he’s a never was.

PS

F* Randolph. His preferred nickname is Z-Bo, but I was always partial to “Black Hole.”

by Carlitro on Jul 2, 2008 12:01 PM CDT up reply actions

i wouldn't underestimate

the appeal of a 20/10 player in the nba, regardless of the checkered past. a 20/10 guy will always have a team willing to take a chance on him. hell, even a 9/4 guy with a couple of brushes with the law will have some team willing to take a gamble on him every season.

would i like to see randolph in a bulls uniform? not really. i’d almost rather see gooden play 40 minutes of spectacularly mediocre basketball every game than see randolph in the red and black. but if we have to mix that in with a 5 guard rotation, i’d rather the bulls be proactive about shopping a guard now to pick up a larger forward who can grind and score.

by leeac on Jul 1, 2008 5:59 PM CDT reply actions

i heard hughes and noah for zac. but still wouldn’t do it.

by FUTURE12 on Jul 1, 2008 10:40 PM CDT reply actions

Zac is a good player

but if I was going to take a risky with a talented player with personality issue my choice would be Rasheed Wallace. Sheed’s contract is less risky because it only has 1 year left.

Duhon sign & trade?

This guy seems to like the idea of using Duhon in a sign & trade for David Lee.

Despite the offer, a sign-and-trade with Chicago is a possibility. Bulls GM John Paxson covets David Lee but in order to get him he’d have to be willing to take on some salary from other players thrown in. The Bulls have restricted free agents to worry about so the Bulls might not be willing to take the Knicks’ junk.

Then later in the piece he says:

D’Antoni’s system will automatically boost anyone’s offensive numbers so I think Duhan would be a great choice.

Classic…

by NormVanBeer on Jul 2, 2008 10:50 AM CDT reply actions

Speaking of D'Antoni's system,

I really am pretty curious to see how things go in NY. I’ve read so much debate about whether it’s the system, or Nash running the system, or just Nash, and whether D’Antoni can coach a different offense, and so on. I may have to actually watch some Knicks games this year.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

by wjb1492 on Jul 2, 2008 11:38 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm curious as well

But I have the feeling that anyone tuning in expecting to see anything that resembles the Suns will be highly upset. Whatever he does in NY will take some time.

by NormVanBeer on Jul 2, 2008 11:54 AM CDT up reply actions

But that's the great part about it - it's win-win for me.

I don’t care if the Knicks continue to suck, and would find that equally entertaining to watch as if they turn out to somehow be great. In fact, I would probably prefer it. :) After seeing D’Antoni’s not-well-hidden reactions on draft lottery night, I think he’s going to be fun to watch if whatever he’s doing isn’t working.

Regardless, the process could be fascinating to watch.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

by wjb1492 on Jul 2, 2008 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I want to see

if Duhon can actually lead a team. It should be interesting – pass-first guard, etc.
My dad’s a knicks fan, though. I’ll have to try to stay quiet around him, kind of protect him from it.
Same for the Mets right now …
