Another Gordon?

Is anybody open to the idea of bartering with the Knicks at No.6 to land Eric Gordon? The Knicks are in business for a guard, either a 1 or a 2.... so an offer of Heinrich/Duhon + Larry Hughes + next year's 1st (which hopefully would be a lower 1st round pick) might persuade them to give up that 6th spot to snag Eric Gordon, who is a bigger version of Ben Gordon and a true combo guard. Honestly, players on this team I see as expendable: Heinrich (nice player but doesn't elevate the play of his team mates or necessarily get them more open looks/easy buckets), Duhon (a very competent back-up), Hughes (whatever, makes too much money for playing like a scrub), Drew Gooden (minute-eater). Love the young front-court of Noah, Thomas, and Gray. Deng holds the 3 down really well as a spot-up shooter. But imagine the back-court of Rose + Gordon + Gordon.

Eric Gordon

has good size.

an inch taller

than Ben Gordon isn’t that much of a difference, maybe 2 inches at best

I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

Enough not great combo guards, please!!!

It is either rose or keep what we have and go for a forward! Besides, the NY would not take Hughes huge contract – Isiah days are over, unfortunately

NOPE....

it wouldnt work…. would have to match salaries….you cant trade players for a pick….you have to trade players for a pick+ players…..No more deals with New York nothing on their team would fit well with what we are trying to accomplish…well…..maybe David Lee i like his game but he isnt goin anywhere

Wow

guess I have to learn the hard way… not too familiar with NBA procedural nuances. I guess the point it is I like Eric Gordon and was just looking for a trading partner, but if it’s that hairy looking forget it. Another guard I like who I guess would be a more realistic trade acquisition is Chris Douglas-Roberts. He’s set to go late in the 1st round, I’m sure there are a number of teams to deal with.

I don't have much faith in Pax

to pull off a deal to trade down and obtain max value from the incredible 17 ping pong balls.

I like Eric Gordon too. I thought we should move up to get him when I had us at #9.

My stock in Eric Gordon is largely the result of Ben Gordon declining a contract extension. In with Eric, out with Ben. That sentiment changes dramatically though if Gordon is inked to a contract extension.

by NBA Observer on Jun 4, 2008 12:02 PM CDT up reply actions

YES

Kirk, Gooden and Noch for Zac and the #6 were we should pick the 6’10 small forward from LSU and not Eric Gorden.

by FUTURE12 on Jun 4, 2008 5:45 PM CDT up reply actions

isnt

the kincks already flooded with high payed gaurds. why would they take on kirk, du, and larry? issah isnt running the show anymore to make retarded trades.

I don't know what to put there...

Walsh on ESPN Daily Dish yesterday

expressed the sentiment that his number 1 goal is getting under the cap. He doesn’t really say when but the way the numbers work for NYK that appears to be the Summer of 2010, aka the Lebron-o-Wade sweepstakes. His one big chip is the expiring contract of Stephon Marbury. All 21 million of him. That still doesn’t get the Knicks under the cap though. Dreadful, thank you Isiah.

by NBA Observer on Jun 4, 2008 11:59 AM CDT up reply actions

Oh, Mr. Hughes

A healthy 13 million in expiring contract in the Summer of 2010.

Walsh is an operator. Even at #6 I wouldn’t count them out of any proposals. If he can trade Curry or Randolph it would be a miracle.

by NBA Observer on Jun 4, 2008 12:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Eric Gordon is much bigger than you realize

he’s probably a legit 6’ 4” but every account is that he’s wider and thicker than anyone imagined. I think the guy, barring his psyche, will be a significant upgrade over Ben Gordon. He’ll give you the outside shooting, probably more along the lines of a Michael Redd type, but Eric is very underrated when it comes to being an explosive finisher – some even threw out D Wade comparisions in this regards. Put Eric with Derrick (reunited from AAU) and I think it could work. Probably something like Hinrich to the Clippers for the #7 would get this done?

by messwiththebull on Jun 4, 2008 12:17 PM CDT reply actions

No he's not

He’s 6 ft 3 with shoes on, not exactly ideal SG height. I really don’t see him being that much better than BG, pretty much because he’s not as tall as everyone thought he was.

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 4, 2008 1:14 PM CDT up reply actions

And also keep in mind that Ben Gordon is ridiculously good

It’s easy to say “Eric is a better version of Ben” because some scouts have said it, but it’s probably not going to be true. Ben was picked #3 overall for a reason: because he’s one of the best shooters ever in the NBA. He has the ability to consistently hits shots that 99% of the league would get benched for even attempting. And even still, Ben Gordon is just an average all-around player because he gives up so much height.

Ben Gordon’s standing reach: 8’3”, Eric Gordon’s standing reach: 8’3”.

It’s really really hard for a 6’3” shooting guard to be effective in the NBA. Iverson and Ellis have been able to do it, and that’s about it. If I’m an NBA GM, I don’t risk a high pick on Eric Gordon or Bayless.

by YaoPau on Jun 4, 2008 5:35 PM CDT up reply actions

does size really matter?

They might be the same size but eric gorden can finish at the base without doing a giant killer, already he is a better defender and he is more physical than ben.

by FUTURE12 on Jun 4, 2008 11:50 PM CDT up reply actions

He is

6’2”, 6’3.25” in shoes
Ben is 6’1”, 6’2.25” in shoes

This is our 2nd Rose/Beasley poll

(though not exactly)...and on this one I’ve switched over from Rose to Beasley.

hey...I was only 51/49 for Rose

Now let’s say I’m 50.1/49.9 for Beasly, but the arrow’s pointing that way.

I also switched since the first one.

But at the beginning it was 70-30 over all.. now it’s closer to 80-20…

Since we have no say at all in the actual draft

If Pax falls in love with Beasley’s game (which is entirely possible), and possibly he could get a sweet offer for Tyrus, he definitley picks him. Public opinion may be in favor of Rose, but I think it’s much closer in the minds of the Bulls organization.

At least I thought so

It could just be Pax and Reinsdorf in the Batcave, with Steve Schanwald in tow.

Rusty Longley v 2.0

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 5, 2008 3:58 PM CDT up reply actions

So he's the same size as Ben Gordon

who seems to be the same size as Derrick Rose and all three have comparable wingspan, standing reach, though Eric and Derrick have about 3” more vert than BG. Their all PG sized but only one of these three is a PG. Let’s just start Thabo and forget this ever happened.

by messwiththebull on Jun 4, 2008 1:22 PM CDT reply actions

If Thabo had legit offensive talent

It would have already happened.

Rusty Longley v 2.0

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 4, 2008 4:47 PM CDT up reply actions

All in due time

his offensive talent may have already developed if he wasn’t relegated to towel boy status under Skiles. I like Thabo’s game and expect him to have a borderline breakout season this year, assuming he’s not traded and will get playing time under the new coach.

by messwiththebull on Jun 4, 2008 10:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Trade Gordon

for a later 1st round pick around 15 and pick up Brandon Rush. A 6’7 215lbs SG/SF who can shoot and defend. You can’t have guys on the floor that do not defend and expect to go anywhere in the playoffs. Why do you think 38 year old Lindsey Hunter gets PT in the conference finals?

by Leto on Jun 4, 2008 6:57 PM CDT reply actions

For the #15?!

I’d much rather have Gordon. I don’t think he’s terrible defensively on an individual basis, just a liability because he will make another undersized teammate guard a bigger 2 guard, or, if he’s actually running the point and someone big like Thabo or Hugs is at the 2, weird shit is going to happen, like a lazy cross court pass leading to a turnover, or Ben getting ahead of his own dribble and either overpenetrating or having the ball bounce off his chin.

But the man can score like few others in this league and I’d like to see what his game brings when playing with a potential star PG.

by messwiththebull on Jun 4, 2008 10:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Hibbert at the 6th!

Great Back Up to Noah IMO…and may develop quik

by Belize on Jun 4, 2008 11:09 PM CDT reply actions

Numbers don't add up...

and i have no interest in having to take one of NY’s many high salary players.
