Elton Brand Back in Chicago?
Elton Brand just opted out of his contract and he will be looking for a new team.
Elton Brand and Corey Maggette opted out of the final season of their contracts with the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, the first day they were allowed to do so, according to the Los Angeles Times. Both will become among the most attractive free agents on the market.
Brand, 29, played only eight games last season after suffering a ruptured Achilles' tendon, but he has averaged 20.3 points and 10.2 rebounds in nine NBA seasons. He was owed $16.4 million had he stayed in the final year of his Clippers contract.
Could Elton Brand be coming home to Chicago? Could the Bulls pick up that low post scorer without trading anything?
The Bulls are definitely going to be considering this off season how they could get a low post scorer on this team and bring home Brand would make the Bulls scary the next 4 seasons and we still have trade options.
I think we will make a serious offer for him, what do you guys think? Do you want him? Is he worth it?

I think Miami ends up with him
What do we have to offer in a S&T? Deng? They have Thornton. Gordon? They just drafted a Gordon. Hughes? They’re the Clippers, but they’re not idiots. I don’t think the Bulls have the goods in terms of a S&T to get it done without having to throw in a Noah on top of it all.
Baron Davis just opted out, too. This is going to be a crazy offseason.

Hinrich...
They need a PG… they’re not sure about Livingston’s condition.

John Paxson already tried to get Beasley before the draft...
I think he offered him the best of the Bulls, short of the #1 pick. And if Riles didn’t bite then, he won’t change his mind now…

the bulls can make this happen
a sign&trade with kirk & gooden…I mean, that’s not the best deal for the Clips, but it’s better than Brand just leaving.

Miami has always been his 1st destination
He was pretty much halfway there when Sterling shocked everyone by matching Miami’s offer in 2005. Riley is going to do whatever it takes to sign him, Marion is highly expendable.

If he goes to Miami, then
that leaves Marion or Beasley on the out and we would be a good option for either.

They're not letting go of Beasley
A Marion trade is much more likely, and saves them the hassle of negotiating with a player who has continually overvalued his play.

If the Clips swap Marion for Brand, let Maggette walk and sign B. Davis
They could start this line-up:
Davis
Mobley
Marion
Thornton
Kaman
Could be a pretty exciting team to watch, sort of like they were 2/3 years ago.

A sign and trade with Chicago makes much more sense than with Miami
1. From the Clippers’ perspective: a package of players from the Bulls speeds rebuilding much faster than a package from Miami. What can Miami offer? They can trade Marion, but with his mammoth contract, they can’t throw much else in unless Brand’s new contract is increased quite a bit. Even then, we’re talking about Chris Quinn, Daequon Cook, Marcus Banks, etc. The Bulls’ salaries match much better building a package around Hinrich (and the Clips need a PG). Plus, our talent is better: in addition to Kirk, we can send over (1) Gooden, (2) Gooden + Noah, (3) Gooden + Nocioni (one can dream, right?), or even (4) something involving Tyrus (not ideal, but maybe worth it if we’re sure Brand is healthy). Clips probably wouldn’t take Hughes off of our hands.
2. From Brand’s perspective: Sure, he wants to stay in LA if at all possible (read: if the Clips do enough this off-season to set themselves up to compete soon AND/OR no team makes him an offer that he thinks puts him in a very competitive situation for a title). If you were Brand, would you rather be playing with Wade (who might not stay healthy), Mourning (ditto), Beasley (who is a freak, but is still a rookie who may or may not play defense), and [random PG here], and no bench beyond Haslem; or Rose, Gordon/Hughes/Sef, Deng, Tyrus, and Noah? If Brand’s true motivation is to win sooner rather than later, the Bulls are the easy pick over Miami.

Furthermore . . .
I forgot to mention in the first paragraph: Marion’s deal will be for one year. That might mean a lot of cap space when they refuse to give Marion the ridiculous contract he’ll demand, but what would the Clips do with it? I’d rather have known quantities with semi-predictable upside than random cap space if I were L.A.

what about no sign and trade
gordon and deng are free agents so we could just let them go and offer brand a good enough deal so he just comes over and then we could start
rose
thabo
thomas(at three where i think he can be good)
brand
noah
the only problem with that team is shooting but maybe the bulls could land some one in free agency who can shoot because just brands salary is less then both deng’s and gordon
this team would be great in transition and could go to brand in the half court plus once rose gets a jumper i think a pick and roll with him and brand would be sick

Renouncing Gordon and Deng does create enough cap room.
And that’s just the beginning of what’s wrong with this post. Here’s two more. You’re sending Gordon and Deng away for nothing, but you want an older player in win now mode to sign onto a team that’s now no where close to winning because it gave away it’s current two best players. You also missed the BAB memo that clearly stated that Tyrus is not a SF even if he himself wants to be one.

"but you want an older player in win now mode to sign onto a team that’s now no where close to winning "
That’s my concern about Brand.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have him as he’d solve our low post scoring woes… but he’s 29, and we’re realistically not a title contender for awhile. With him, we probably could have a solid team out there right now, but that’s not what this is about. It’s about the long-term. Everybody wants to win right away and understandably so, but this is going to be a long process, and hopefully a successful one down the road with Rose leading this team. We need to be patient.

I just posted this link elsewhere
But the evidence – granted, in very small sample sizes – from this year indicate that Thomas is not a fit at small forward. Subjectively, from watching games, this isn’t where Thomas belongs either. Scotter’s new post helps fill in some of the blanks – Thomas needs to be playing near the basket, where he creates high-percentage offense, and where he makes his impact on defense.

Brand Opting out made it more difficult
Brand opting out means he will get less for a longer periodo. If he gets less we can’t offer Hinrich and gooden and it would be harder to match salaries. Besides, Brand seems to love LA (he is a hollywood producer in the offseason). And I can only see he leaving for a strong contender

I want no part of Elton Brand
old, injured, slow.
I would’ve only been interested if he didn’t opt-out and therefore only had 1 year under contract.

Well said.
He’s built for the half-court game, not up-tempo right? And plus an achilles tear is no small injury. In the 80’s and 90’s athletes with achilles injuries were treated like horses with hoof injuries, ie George from Of Mice and Men...... BANG

Let Miami have Brand.
I’m beginning to think more and more that the Bulls should sign Gordon and Deng, and just sit still this off-season. Short of getting rid of Hughes contract, there’s not much out there that works with our roster. And I don’t think we should give Hinrich away after his worst year… I think his value could actually rise (mid-way through the year before the PO’s, or next year) with some consistent play. He can’t get much worse. I think if Miami picks Brand up, good for us. Why? Bc he’s older (I’m not willing to say a 29 yr old is old, but he’s older than our core) and given his injuries he’s probably already peaked. This is the year where TT needs to get a fresh slate and take advantage of his opportunity. Who knows? He might kill it. He sounded and looked great at the press conf yesterday and if we don’t give him a chance to succeed, we can’t label him a bust. If things don’t work out for the best, I’m looking at PF FA’s who are available the next 2 years and I’d rather have Boozer or Bosh over Brand in a heartbeat, so why settle now? We need a few years to jell before we can compete. If Miami lands Brand, they won’t get Boozer. When Boozer leaves Utah next year, Chicago might appeal to him due to the fact that he’ll be used to playing with a DWill type PG. That’s a contingency plan. But why not give this team a chance? We know DRose’s greatest attribute will be that he’ll make everyone else better. So let’s see what that nets us. Without Hughes on our roster, I’d be 100% happy taking on 2008-9 as is.
PG: Rose / Hinrich
SG: Gordon / Hinrich / Thabo
SF: Deng / Nocioni / Thabo
PF: Tyrus / Gooden / Nocioni
C: Noah / Gooden / Gray

I don't really know if you're being sarcastic or not about TT...
When I’m sarcastic I try to make it obvious, whereas there’s so much TT love on this blog I can’t tell what you’re implying. But it was the first time I’ve heard/seen Tyrus upbeat and excited about his future with the Bulls in, well, maybe since his intro press conference. The smugness was gone, and he looked like he added some muscle too, sooo… yeah. If you don’t have something nice to say… at least say something worthwhile.

We've spoken about Huges before.
it’s not unprecedented for Pax to “ax” a bad attitude player with an outstanding contract.
pay him and move on….
I would try to get something back for him first though.

Brand please don't become a Bull
what is with this love affair for Brand??
He isn’t that good.
Go watch Youtube highlights and you’ll see what I mean. Do it I dare you.
I’m not saying I don’t want him because he isn’t highlight material. Its just what he does isn’t that impressive.
The stuff he does can only be done in the first half. After that he becomes too short and too slow.
What has he ever won in his carreer???
Chicagoans are completely mislead by the impact Brand can have.
this dude is so weak
