"Maybe our people should've shopped (Gasol) more and maybe we would've gotten more, done a better deal."

Come on, you are the lead scout Heisley, remember when you shitted on Noah and Nocioni because Kwame Brown was available?

Even Dolan looks partially sane

Or maybe that’s because he isn’t a cheap bastard.

Cry me a river
"We’ve been in the lottery more than anyone in the NBA, and we’ve definitely had the worst record twice as much as anyone else," Heisley said. "This is sure a fantastic system we have – isn’t it? – where we’ve never gotten the No. 1 pick. Our ticket sales just stopped last year when we didn’t get one of the top picks. What’s the sense in of all this?"

You idiot, maybe you should have thought about that before you moved your team to a city that can’t support pro basketball. Getting a sweet arena deal doesn’t help much if you can’t get people in the arena.

To be fair, it's not like Vancouver was a hotbed of basketball

I’d put more of the blame on Heisley just being a cheap dipshit who turned a team that made the playoffs twice in the West into a perennial bottom feeder.

Nice, huh?

One source with knowledge of the process said the Bulls had made the most credible offer. For Gasol and Memphis’ Hakim Warrick, the Bulls were willing to part with Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, Thabo Sefolosha, and possibly Adrian Griffin and draft picks.

Heisley didn’t offer up those names, but insisted, “Chicago wouldn’t offer us any of their good, core players,” he said. “Our people told me that we weren’t able to get equal trade value for Gasol and that we needed to do a deal that would give us cap space and draft picks. It was no secret in the league that we were considering offers for him, but the Lakers were the one team that stepped up.”

I think a Hinrich/Gordon/Deng/Gasol/Wallace (or Gooden) team would’ve been doomed to 41 to 49 wins per year, without the hope that exists now. ‘Course, that’s just due to luck, not Paxson. But, yeah. Heisley and Chris Wallace sure make Reinsdorf and Pax look okay, don’t they?

Maybe

The pick is one thing, but what Paxson does with the roster afterwards is going to be crucial. I think that the Gasol trade would have given them a title shot last year, but that window is over. So, missing out on him doesn’t seem so bad. Yes, he was the best player on some playoff teams, but they never even won a single game in Memphis. It’s just funny how all of a sudden people in the national media are praising Gasol’s skills when he was doing the same stuff in Memphis with considerably less talent. But, now that he plays for the Lakers, he possesses Walton’s passing, McHale’s post moves, and a porn star’s facial hair.

Your statements

support my feeling that, rather than having a title shot, they wouldn’t have had a chance. No playoff wins in Memphis as their best player. What would make a difference here? Deng and Gordon would’ve given Pau some wins, sure. But do you think that lineup is really any better than ORL or TOR or even ATL/PHI? With LAL this year, it’s all about Kobe and his turnaround. And they don’t have any crappy players starting like Smush and Kwame!

Whenever I figure Pax is clueless, I look at something like this, these trade offers/rumors, and I think “Thank God other GMs and owners are even more clueless!”

Yeah, people are just confused as to what the hell they want

I would have gladly traded for Kobe, because I’m confident he can be a leader of a team and take them far in the playoffs as long as they have a certain level of talent. But Pau or KG? I mean, yes they are both excellent players, but KG without other veterans around him just can’t dominate a game, neither can Pau. What’s most underrated about Boston is that they made the panic trade for Ray Allen first. If Ainge doesn’t make that trade just to satisfy pissed of C’s fans, KG never considers Boston as a viable option. We can become a title contender, by picking the right player at the draft, and smartly trading our assets (whether it be Tyrus, Kirk, BG or whomever) we can build a team that doesn’t just stop at 50 wins and 2nd round exit.

Two big reasons

I want Rose: Other players would want to play with him, more so than Beasley, and I think the team will ultimately go farther. (Though I understand that Beasley or Oden will be ROY). I hope Pax sees it as on opportunity to fix the midget back court. So yeah, who gets traded and for what is crucial. I don’t care which of Kirk or BG go (they could both!), but Pax needs to get something good back. And I’m even okay with him taking his sweet time to do it (good thing, given his “Drew Diligence” moniker).

That’s a good point regarding BOS fans. Had they gotten their Oden or Durant wish, they’d be nowhere near where they are now. And McKale letting Ainge keep Rondo is nearly as suspicious as Heisley’s Gasol donation to LA. But I do think getting Jefferson for Pau was something Pax couldn’t beat, though the previous deal w/ Chandler was far better. (Although, as with any Kobe dream, there wasn’t much left around KG on Bulls then!)

Getting past 50 wins to elite status (baring a “gift trade”) means somebody has to step up to stardom besides this #1 pick. If Deng can comfortably be option/star #3, then Tyrus probably has to grow into #2 eventually, or be traded for one who can, ‘cause (as much as I love them) I don’t see Noah or Thabo (or BG) becoming that. Or maybe turning Noc/Gooden/midget G into M Miller/Maggette plus Boris Diaw or somebody would do it???
