Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Paxson vs. Reinsdorf?

Just saw this on Hoopsworld.com from Bill Ingram:

It's been a real mess in Chicago since the season ended. We've seen top coaches like Avery Johnson, Mike D'Antoni, and Rick Carlisle blow through without signing, and now it seems Doug Collins might suffer the same fate.

Or will he?

Jerry Reinsdorf wanted Collins, and basically told GM John Paxson that he should go hire him. Paxson, though, told his boss that he wasn't going to be strong-armed into making a decision and would interview other people instead. This came just hours after Collins called his would-be players and told them he was taking over as coach.

So the question becomes: will the Bulls be shopping for a new GM before the draft? It seems likely that if Paxson and Reinsdorf can't get on the same page, the latter will choose to replace his uncooperative employee in favor of someone who can get things done

Not really sure what to make of that.  But it is interesting at the very least.

Too many Paxson stories coming out all of a sudden

for there not to be something going on.

If Paxson can't make a decision without Reinsdorf butting in or trying to dictate

the process, then he should leave. Let Reinsdorf hire a puppet GM. I like Pax, but hearing all these rumors of Jerry continuously trying to pull the strings makes me think Paxson is growing frustrated with the big guy upstairs.

Or vice versa.

via Hoopsworld:
Paxson, according to sources, was “told” to continue the process of talking and interviewing after the pros and cons of Doug Collins were discussed. Bulls’ sources maintain there is not a rift between Paxson and Reinsdorf, but says that does not mean this process is going smoothly; everyone involved still believes Doug Collins will be the next Bulls coach.

This story's got Legs!

Tim Legler was apparently on AM1000 and

Legler said that the Bulls coaching search is taking so long because of a strong rumor that Paxson will step down as GM, and Collins would be hired as the GM of the team.

Anyone else hear this? My guess is just that Legler’s re-hashing the stuff here

Someone here mentioned that as a possibility a few days ago

But outside of BaB I haven’t seen the Collins GM rumor. I must say that any way to get Pax out of town works for me, though. I can’t believe that Reinsdorf isn’t losing patience with Paxon.

Holy smokes

If that was to happen, that would be an insane amount of upheaval for 1 offseason. 2 coaches, 1 GM, and a #1 pick? Jeez.
