Bucks acquire Richard Jefferson for Yi, Simmons

Just saw this out there. Trying to confirm it. [confirmed. -ed.] Looks like Skiles got himself a new guy. I doubt they still draft Joe Alexander if this is true. I also wonder if this means M Redd is going or staying. Cant wait for tonight. Has anyone else seen any reports of this trade going down? So i guess the trade is Bobby Simmons and Yi for R Jefferson.

Good trade for both teams. NJ gets a decent(cheapish) young player and cap savings for the summer of Lebron, and Milwaukee doesn’t have to witness Skiles destroying the psyche of Jianlian. Plus Jefferson’s a solid defender and easily the best player in the draft.

So does Milwaukee go for a big man now or someone like Augustin?

I say big guy...

They only have Vilanueva and Bogut now…

Please Pax!!! Can you trade Hughes???

by bull83 on Jun 26, 2008 2:32 PM CDT up reply actions

They just

signed M Williams to a big deal last summer i think they are ok at PG. I think they go big and drop the Australian to the 4. Maybe Lopez if he’s still there.

by Bulls4Ever on Jun 26, 2008 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Deandre Jordan + Scott Skiles

Haha, that would be almost as good as Jianlian and Skiles.

DeAndre Jordan

has seen the biggest drop in his draft position. Mocks have him falling to the end of the first round. He’s really not a center. He’s just 7’0 tall.

that could be the best he can get with #8.

Love should be gone by then; Maybe Lopez

Love or Lopez

I don’t know if either guy is around at #7. Lopez should be.

Nice

So what’s more obvious: Kevin Love to Minnesota or Lebron to New Jersey in 2010?

by Jobu on Jun 26, 2008 2:31 PM CDT reply actions

Yeahhh

I’m wondering what the Bucks are doing, though. For the past month every mock has called Joe Alexander a lock at #8, but now the chances look slim unless they really believe he can play PF. Maybe Anthony Randolph now?

Mayo goes 3rd to Minnesota.

I was really looking forward to seeing how Skiles would deal with Yi. Skiles might have created an international incident.

With the 10th pick

in the 2008 NBA Draft, the New Jersey Nets select Joe Alexander out of West Virginia.

Mandarin speaking buddies with Yi. Also, no more SF logjam in front of Joe.

the point was

the ‘Alexander speaks mandarin’ stuff has been out there, yet you phrase it like it’s your own profound creation.

Yi and Alexander would be a decent combination.

They can switch offensive and defensive roles at forward.

You gotta believe they used to gripe in French last season.

Unless Boylan is a closet French speaker, I guess.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

my first reaction

is that this is bad news for the Bulls, it makes one of our division opponents better. R Jeff is proven and is way better than Yi will ever be, in my view. Although, I see why NJ does it, because of their rebuilding project / quest for LBJ.

by fundamentallysound on Jun 26, 2008 2:39 PM CDT reply actions

I would say Williams-Redd-Jefferson-CharlieV-Bogut

may be the worst defensive lineup in basketball…but then again Skiles has proven he can work magic on that end.

Yea

but Duhon will supplant Mo Williams as the starting PG so that Skiles can have one of his best scorers come off the bench.

There was a rumor from the Milwaukee Real GM board of

Hinrich for 8th pick plus Desmond Mason and Charlie V. I thought maybe Skiles wanted to go small ball with Mo, Kirk, and Redd. This probably kills any chance of that though.

I don't think Skiles would get rid of Charlie V

Only guy in the league with less hair than him.

That really isn't fair to Kirk

to finally get rid of Skiles only to get on another team with him. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

In general, I'd agree

But maybe a half season with Boylan makes Skiles look not so bad? He’s a non-communicative ass, but his coaching made slighly more sense.

If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

by wjb1492 on Jun 26, 2008 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions

He might come to blows with Charlie especially...

probably Redd too. They put no effort into D and Charlie looks like he doesn’t think on the court.

But depending on how they use their pick – they could very well be a 7 or 8 playoff seed next year.

by swede2287 on Jun 26, 2008 4:46 PM CDT up reply actions

I still think Milwaukee ends up trading Redd too

So maybe they go with Eric Gordon or Bayless at #8.

Where though?

Sixers? They have 11 mil in cap space, but they still have to pay Igoudala and Lou Williams.

Who else can absorb 17 million?

by NBA Observer on Jun 26, 2008 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I doubt the Sixers because I assume,

they eventually want to get Iggy and Thad to the SG and SF positions.

The rumor I've seen

Has them sending him to Cleveland for Wally’s expiring contract and other pieces.

They don’t need to find a team with cap room in order to make the trade.

by BNeL21 on Jun 26, 2008 3:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I think this puts them in win-now mode

and not only that, with Jefferson (and Gadzuric and Williams) they’re likely not having a ‘2010 plan’ anyway (might as well, who’s coming to Milwaukee as a FA), so Redd’s salary isn’t as crippling.

by BigBenign on Jun 26, 2008 3:03 PM CDT reply actions

I'm surprised the Nets would take a glorified salary dump

for Jefferson. I guess it’s 2010 at all costs.

Straight-up for Odom made more sense though, you’d think they could work within the parameters of 2010 while still getting back someone who will help them win in the interim.

also

New Jersey was reportedly looking to cash in on young players before this trade.

so add Yi to Kristic, Boone, Williams, Williams, Ager, new draft choices…they won’t keep all of those guys (I assume Devin Harris is safe)

This could

be the end of the VC era as well. Wouldnt be surprised to see him shipped out tonight for an expiring deal. I would say maybe Marbury but that would probably be counter productive considering they are both in the LBJ sweepstakes..

by Bulls4Ever on Jun 26, 2008 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

the reports were that the Nets were going to go the other way, make another run around VC and Devin Harris. Of the guys I listed, I don’t think they have enough assets to pawn Carter off on anyone.

How about VC

To GS for that 10mil exception they have and maybe a few young wings they have. Dont they still got that kid they drafted last year? Nelly wants to win now and with Monta, BD, and VC that would be a pretty nast lineup. Worst D in the league but htye would score the most.

by Bulls4Ever on Jun 26, 2008 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Ow yeah

I forgot about him. My bad. Still i just cant see shipping away all they vets and keeping VC (contrary to YFB saying they were making another run). I just dont think VC is down like that. Remeber hes a malcontent. This will not fly with him.

Dammit Hammond deprives us of Skiles destroying Yi

With Joe Alexander translating “you’re not running hard enough” in Mandarin.

Good deal for NJ. Jefferson was worth too much for what he actually provides, and this just makes the LeBron wooing that much easier.

So who do the Bucks take now? They still have too many forwards, Eric Gordon probably won’t last that long, dare the Bucks take Kevin Love and piss off MJ?

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 26, 2008 3:26 PM CDT reply actions

Weren't the Bulls considering making a run at RJ a few years ago

around the time they drafted Deng and were also considering Al Harrington? It sounds now like it was Skiles pushing for RJ and maybe he was pushing again. Then again, I’d try to move Yi off my team, too. He’s a softer version of Charlie V. for crying out loud.
