Nice idea by Charlotte

Felton, Richardson, Gerald Wallace, Okafor makes them one player away from a pretty stellar starting 5. Russell Westbrook, though? I wouldn’t think he’d start ahead of Felton or Richardson…

by YaoPau on Jun 26, 2008 10:01 AM CDT reply actions

"Stellar" starting 5?

I don’t think I can name 5 teams who have a worse starting five…

by smash! on Jun 26, 2008 10:26 AM CDT up reply actions

I'd take Charlotte's team over these 2

Stephon Marbury
Jamal Crawford
Q Richardson
Zach Randolph
Eddy Curry

Mo Williams
Michael Redd
Yi
Vilanueva
Bogut

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 26, 2008 10:30 AM CDT up reply actions

Definitely.

But we still need 3 more:) We can’t label the 28th best team “stellar” now…

by smash! on Jun 26, 2008 10:44 AM CDT up reply actions

Weeeellllll

You’d take Richardson and Gerald Wallace over anybody on the Bulls, right? And Felton is pretty close to Hinrich… and Okafor is better than Noah, for now anyway.

There aren’t any big names on Charlotte, and they have probably the worst bench in the league… but those four are no slouches.

6' 9" 300lbs. and already combting a degenerative knee condition.

May’s got skills, but until he can prove otherwise, I’d label him a major health risk.

Unlike Sports2, I just don’t trust that very big guys can overcome knee problems—until I see it happen on an individual to individual basis.

I'd take Deng over those two

Deng’s 5 years younger than Richardson and Wallace’s injury history makes Deng’s injury history look like a minor concern

If this is about value, I'd take Noah over Okafor too

But I’m saying for right now. Richardson’s 22 – 5 – 3 season on 44% shooting and 41% from 3’s … and Wallace’s 19 – 6 – 4 season with 2.1 steals and .9 blocks per game are a step ahead of anything we’ve got right now.

by YaoPau on Jun 26, 2008 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions

Hm now I'm intrigued

TJ Ford, Dunleavy, Granger, Troy Murphy, Jeff Foster?

Conley, Mike Miller, Rudy Gay, Hakim Warrick, Darko?

Luke Ridnour, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Chris Wilcox, Nick Collison?

Randy Foye, McCants, Brewer, Ryan Gomes, Al Jefferson?

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 26, 2008 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Well, assuming they draft Love, and assuming Love is a decent starter who can score...

I’d put them over Philly, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Sacramento, LA Clippers… and they’re right there with Denver, Golden State, Dallas, Phoenix, Orlando, Washington, Cleveland, Orlando, Toronto, and the Bulls.

Considering their top three bench players last year were Matt Carroll, Jared Dudley, and Earl Boykins, they did pretty well to finish just one game behind the Bulls.

by YaoPau on Jun 26, 2008 11:05 AM CDT up reply actions

And their team seems to have at least 2 players out with injuries at all times

I think this Eastern Conference could set a record for the amount of mediocre 40 win teams this year.

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 26, 2008 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions

That's part of it

The other part is that Wallace, Felton, and Okafor are all role players, with Richardson as the only scoring threat. It’s a pretty shoddily put together team… but adding a legit post player like Love or Lopez could change all that.

by YaoPau on Jun 26, 2008 11:12 AM CDT up reply actions

Does "right there with" mean within snifing distance of their tailpipes?

They might be the lucky team to win the eight seed in the East with 35 + wins, but their starting lineup is not that impressive.

Boo to you

Right there means they could be better than all of them this year. Richardson is 27, Wallace 25, Okafor 25, Felton 24. They’re talented, they’re young, and other top teams (Mavs, Phoenix, Washington, Denver) are starting to break down.

by YaoPau on Jun 26, 2008 11:15 AM CDT up reply actions

Richardson, Wallace, and Okafor are good starters

Felton’s a mediocre player. Love and Lopez, from what I’ve read, sound more like complementary post players who prefer to work midrange/perimeter than than the low post scorers you’ve alluded to.

Mavs, Phoenix, Washington, and Denver all have issues that will prevent them from being title contenders. They’ll all still win more games next season than the Bobcats despite having similar bench issues. The difference lies in having All Star caliber production from more than one player in the starting lineup. Richardson’s the only Bobcat you can realistically expect to see in the All Star game next year.

If Larry Brown decides to actually coach this year

They could win 5-6 more games just off of hustle and improved defense. Still, Charlotte seems more like a fantasy team than a legit pro team.

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 26, 2008 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions

Why can't Memphis just freaking do something right and draft Love

They do realize their starting centers are Darko, Kwame Brown (or did he expire), and Jason “most unproductive player in the NBA” Collins.

I do wonder how MJ will screw the draft this year. Maybe he’ll draft DeAndre Jordan at 9?

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 26, 2008 10:05 AM CDT reply actions

Kwame expired at least 3 years ago

Oh, you meant his contract? Yea that was up this year too.

Shhhh...

dont say anything…let them take the bait ;)

Every league needs a good eff-up or 2.

Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do things like trade away Curry or Ben Wallace.

by smash! on Jun 26, 2008 10:28 AM CDT up reply actions

Memphis should stand pat

Love, Gordon, Bayless, Westbrook, Gallinari, Lopez, will all potentially be available.

I think Love or Gordon would be the best fit.

I thought it said Chicago/Memphis

SCREW THIS!

Don't do it MJ!

Ok, if this goes down, MJ is….(ducking lighting bolt)...making a serious run at Isiah as the worst GM in the NBA

Moving UP to get Love? After dying with Adam Morrison? Is MJ trying to put together a Boy Band or a basketball team?

by Jobu on Jun 26, 2008 10:30 AM CDT reply actions

He

never stopped crying after that tourney loss.
