New poll is up
The initial post-lottery poll, after nearly 2500 responses, showed the masses to be 4-1 (my bad, 75% is 3-1, right?) in Derrick Rose's favor.
After several weeks of, er, lets call it 'debate'....time for another check.
In the spirit of this well-reasoned discourse I will add that if you are one of those who switched sides, just know that I think you're incredibly soft-minded, and shame on you.

Andy Katz just mentioned
that Ben Gordon is lobbying the Bulls to take Beasley…that Gordon saw Beasley’s work-out and really liked him.
Katz also mentioned that there’s a lot of community pressure to select Rose.

Katz didn't say that
The studio host with Broussard and Rose said that, after they had went around Chicago and asked a bunch of strangers who they should pick. Most of them said Rose, and for some reason 1 guy said take Brook Lopez.
Katz actually mentioned that he got a phone call from Beasley’s camp that Chicago had not come to a consensus decision yet, and that Beasley remained very much in play as the 1st pick.

I saw that telecast twice since the airing an hour ago was a repeat
And that’s what was said. I’m sure the Beasley camp was just saying that to maintain relevancy because there is definite speculation he could fall to #3.

So you're saying Alec made this up?
You’re one of the more reliable posters here. I believe you, obviously, but why would Alec post something like that if it did happen? I hate crossed signals.

Thanks for the compliment
And I guess Alec and me are just getting Kurosawa on this. Not that it really matters who that quote came from, I think it is apparent there is some “local” pressure to draft Rose, but IMO I think that pressure is more of a “OMG Rose is totally Chris Paul and Deron Williams”
I remember they were asking random Chicagoans, then they interviewed Katz, and the studio host mentioned the local pressure, and Katz proceeded with his call from Beasley’s crew.

That was just the studio host saying there was community pressure to select Rose. They did a “man on the streets” thing and came up with a majority of Chicagoans wanting Rose.

Because he's not that type of PG
Rose doesn’t have that crazy court vision that Paul has (and if he gets it I will just increase my love for him). He’s going to use his athleticism to get into the lane and create opportunities, not nifty highlight passes. YaoPau called him potentially a more controlled Baron Davis, and I agree with that comparison.

Rose also has the potential to be the greatest finish PG who ever played the game.
To me, he’s like an uber-athletic, ridiculously jacked Tony Parker who can finish all kinds of seemingly impossible shots in the lane, even after drawing contact. Sign me up. He’ll blow past any PG who tries to guard him, whether it’s using his strength, speed, or both. No one will be able to guard him, especially as he hones his J, which I have complete confidence in. His mechanics are too good for him to shoot the percentages he did last year. He’s not Rajon Rondo in the sense that you cringe every time he loads up to shoot, which is obviously a huge positive. Look how effective that guy’s been even without a jumper.
Basically, Rose has the potential to be completely unguardable in my opinion.
I’ve always liked the 6’3” LeBron comparison. He’ll be physically devastating in any matchup outside of Deron Williams. I’m kind of sorry I even brought up Tony Parker’s name, the more I think about it (meaning no disrespect to Parker), but Rose has the potential to be his own breed of PG. And that, as Borat would say, is “a niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.”

The men in which you go to war
If you have players you are comfortable passing you to a PG’s vision cans shift more focus to this. If you DONT have the players you are comfortable passing to a PG’s vision shifts to their scoring.
We all should know early MJ and Champion MJ. He wasn’t looking to pass as the Champion, but he would do it and it was necessary though only when surrounded by men in which he is willing to go to war.
Paul averaged more assists at Wake than did Rose at Memphis. But those numbers were ghosted in the NBA during his first season, then climbed a little in his second season, and once he was surrounded by players he was comfortable passing to his vision changed to pass first and finish second. His assists rocketed to 11+ per game this season making him #2 in PER.
When I watch Rose I see him alternating between observing the floor in order to find the open space for the pass and observing the floor to carve out his lane for scoring. He does both well, but thus far he’s only done the passing vision when instructed to by Calipari.

What adds a little spice to it
is that we know from Rose’s post work-out comments that Gordon was in the room for that work-out, too.
I really get the feeling that Gordon has gotten more proactive, that he intends to have a say in the Bulls plans for him. He’s got too much at stake this year to just roll over.

If Ben Gordon was Beasley's size.
He would practice a 100 hundred ways to score. And he would rebound like crazy because that gets the ball back so he can go score again. Gordon is actually a very solid rebounder for his size.
It was a comment about there physiques and focus on scoring, not a comment about Beasley being just a jumpshooter.

...if Rose got 75% of the vote on the first poll, wouldn’t that be a 3-to-1 margin rather than a 4-to-1 margin? I hate to sound like the Spelling Police that frequent these threads, but I thought that error did slightly misrepresent the results of the first poll.

I voted Rose,
but I’m up for whatever as long as we win.
I really want up to be running and gunning, though, and i don’t think Beasley will help that, just because Hinrich will then dribble the ball in circles. We need another PG. Rose pushes it.
I guess I just want us to be the Suns, because they’re fun to watch. Maybe we could win, though.

You know, Kirk played up tempo in college.
He’s only played one offensive system in the NBA, and that was Skiles. Same as all the other drafted guys, they haven’t had a different system to work in, or a different coach to teach other ways of playing.
If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

Well ...
If that system was just screwing him, and he can run the point good running/etc. at an elite level, then beasley would be awesome.
But this assumes we have an elite PG already, and I’m not convinced that we do. [Then again, I still think Telfair can be good. ... I’m an optimist.]

Kirk ran the secondary break w/ Roy Williams.
Which usually meant guys busting ass after the offensive rebounding and passing it up court as fast as possible. Also, Kirk was the SG alongside Aaron Miles. Yes, he handled the ball a lot, but he didn’t dribble the ball super fast up court as your words implied.

Again with the implied, huh?
Believe me, I know what positions Kirk played in college and which years. I do watch a lot of college ball, particularly Kansas.
I’m not exactly sure when or why you decided to take issue with me, tyger. Just for the record I don’t try to be misleading on here. Obviously you are welcome to disagree with my opinion, but I don’t see any reason why things have to get nasty. I’m also not into the 40 comment pissing match, so this is all I have to say on the matter.

I'm just saying your implications were wrong is all.
Saying Kirk played uptempo in college and everything else you said is an obvious implication that he showed he somehow had great skills in college that are being muted. I was merely pointing out that wasn’t necessarily true.
