Trade Rumor: Jermaine O'Neal for Ford/Rasho/#17
According to league sources, Toronto has had talks with the Indiana Pacers about acquiring 29-year-old Jermaine O’Neal for a package that would include T.J. Ford, Rasho Nestervoic and, perhaps, the 17th pick in this week’s draft.
The talks are not the point where any deal is imminent and a deal is certainly not assured but the source said the Raptors are aggressively trying to move Ford and O’Neal is one of their targets.
Toronto also still has serious interest in forward Boris Diaw of the Phoenix Suns and is in talks with at least three other teams for trades of a similar magnitude.
I don't think the Bulls should make an offer that trumps that one. I suppose they could throw in a future lottery-protected first with Hinrich/Hughes. But Rasho expires after this season, so the Pacers would likely ask for Gooden instead.

Ford & Rasho seems fair, I don't get adding in the draft pick, even if it's mid round

Yeah O'Neal has crazy injury concerns, although that I love that trade for Toronto
It goes away from their Euro, D’Antoni, small ball fusion, but aesthetics be damned, a frontline of Bosh and a healthy JO is pretty damn good, considering Jermaine is more of a defensive/rebounding kind of guy now.

Bargnani?
I wonder what that means for Nowitzki’s sucky Italian cousin. I thought the whole point was he and Bosh would be the starters, but it looks like he could get burried.
I heard Roy Hibbert's workout is scheduled for next week.

They kind of soured on him
last year for some reason. I don’t closely follow the Raps’ but his minutes were down. Missing the Italian women, I guess. I’d pry him off that team for Noc + 2nd rounders.

i think his numbers were down
since they were trying to force him to play C next to bosh instead of PF.

His growth chart went flat
Bad sign for a 2nd year guy with no injuries or roster obstacles in front of him.
I’d take Bargnani and a player for Noc. Can they throw in Garbajosa’s contract?

I'd take him
Can he play in the post at all?
Bargnani-the answer to all the Bulls’ problems.

Play in the post?
He can take Larry Hughes spot as a jump shoooter…
If nothing else, taking Rose will at least piss off Pat Riley.

That's a hard NO
He’s another option to run a pick and pop with pairing him with Rose. You could put him on the perimeter ala Peja Stokajevic and he’s about 5 million dollars cheaper.

I wonder who the genius European coach was
who, years ago, came up with the idea to make all his 7’1” guys ballhandling jumpshooters.

Have you seen the trapezoidal lanes?
Can’t exactly stress low post offense

Hmm
being here in Indy, I don’t think I’d do that were I the Pacers. TJ Ford scares the hell out of me with his back issues. O’Neal, on the other hand, doesn’t scare me quite as much because I figure even if he loses some of his athleticism due to his knee issues, he’s still going to be a pretty effective player.
Really, consider Marcus Camby or Antonio McDyess as good examples. They both went through a couple years of injury issues, but are still very effective players.
As a Bulls fan, I sort of like Hinrich/Hughes or Hinrich/Noc or possibly even Hinrich/Gooden for O’Neal. Mostly because we just really, really need a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 sort of trade, and because O’Neal would be a heck of a frontcourt option.
As far as getting the deal done, I think the Pacers would at least somewhat consider a Bulls offer because I can’t imagine they’re eager to take on Ford. But if they’re just hellbent on saving money, I suppose they can save more from the Raptors and can force the Bulls to offer Hinrich/Gooden, which is probably the least helpful deal from our perspective because it doesn’t get rid of our two biggest contract deadweights (Hughes and Noc).
So Meh. After thinking about it I don’t see a lot of value for us unless we can move Noc or Hughes in the deal. If we only move Hinrich and Gooden, we probably make it that much harder to move the other guys because we now less to package the crummy two with.
