Beasley...Please

Are we seriously talking about this?  Yeah Rose may be the hometown "hero", and he is an amazing player.   But all you need to know are two stats...20-10.  We have a guy within our reach who can average 20 - 10, for a very, very long time.  Everyone keeps talking about the Derrick Coleman comparisons.  Let it go.  He's 19, and of course he hasn't matured.  Which one of us had made every right decision at the age of 19?  Which one of us had never messed up?

We are stacked with good athletic guards, and small forwards, who can turn it on for 20 on any given night.  Hinrich is a lock-down defender.  Nocioni can play the 3 or 4.  Gordon is lights out behind the arc. Tyrus is pretty much a waste of athletic ability, unfortunately, cause he is probably the most exciting player on the Bulls for fans to watch. Sefolosha is an athletic defender.  Noah needs to stop smoking pot and reading poetry and play, cause he has amazing heart.  Deng?  well I'm not really sold on him.  Yeah he averaged over 20 a year ago.  But last year, it was like he totally disappeared (well..more so than all the rest.  The whole team posted an "out-to-lunch, be back soon" sign) Hughes can play..he'll never has been, or will be a number one option (which is what he's getting paid for) but he is still a great defender, he can shoot, and he can play point for a short period of time for going with a tall lineup.  We are team that lives or dies by the jump shot.  last year we died.  Why not bring in someone who can drive or post up?

From day one he was a number one lock.  And then Rose has a great championship run, (which they lost in by-the-way) and then its "oh' lets bring him in because he's from here"  it makes no sense.   Rose had a great team.  Beasley was his team.  Please please Pax...Do the right thing.  Beasley

I got a little past it

and reached another thing that annoys me: “what about us at 19?”

Judged not lest ye be judged, my ass. I’m completely judging Beasley as a 19 year old, and hope any potential #1 overall pick isn’t the typical teenager.

What about Rose?

If we’re all fuckups at 19, why isn’t Rose? Why don’t we just compare the two, since, um… that’s what we should be doing.

by tyger1147 on Jun 20, 2008 12:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Word.

And as for 20-10… That’s really not as elusive as finding a transcendent PG that can run a team and make people like Deng (and potentially even TT) into 20/10 producers, all while slashing through the lane and leading a team to new heights.

If we’re really looking for a 20/10 guy, we need to focus all our efforts on bringing Brand back. Come full circle and make it all right again!

by smash! on Jun 20, 2008 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions

There are plenty of 20-10 players who weren't that great

Antoine Walker did it. So did Larry Johnson, Pervis Ellison, Derrick Coleman, and Zach Randolph. Al Jefferson and Antawn Jamison did it this year.

I don’t doubt Beasley can put up those numbers, but if you don’t do it efficiently and play good defense, you aren’t worth the #1 pick.

by YaoPau on Jun 20, 2008 11:38 AM CDT reply actions

Pervis Ellison?

20/10 once in 11 years and you put him on the list?

Note – This comment was posted by a bitter old Sacramento Kings fan who has already been through enough this month what with the 2002 game 6 bullsh*t and the last thing he needed was to be reminded that the Kings wasted the only #1 pick that they’ve ever had on Pervis Ellison. We now return you to your regular programming.

I like what Rose can do for T2 and Noah more than I like what Beasley can do for Hinrich and Gordon. I thought Beasley for you guys at the very beginning, but now I think it’s Rose.

Hinrich and Gordon

also cost $10 million more than T2 and Noah this year. We’ll take the two big lugs in Sacramento if you’re done with them.

i agree on the rose choice. he could be great for tyrus and noah. i think deng would benefit greatly, as well.

“been through enough this month what with the 2002 game 6 bullsh*t”

i could see why that would make for a tough june of 2008.

Glenn Robinson

20-10 guy, dominated in college. Went #1. Ask the Bucks if they’d rather have taken Jason Kidd.

by E-Grizzle on Jun 20, 2008 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

20-10 ruined Zach Randolph

His best year was still his 2nd year in the league when he was a hard-working efficient hustle guy from the bench. It’s sad how the he was awarded the MIP award his 3rd year for posting…20-10. Now he’s basically just the 20-10 guy who proves that this “achievement” is largely overrated. It’s like Jason Kidd’s 10-10-10 games where he shoots 30% from the field and his team still loses.

I can just see it now...

Noah defensive board…outlet to rose, sprinting down the court like Hester in the opening kick of the super bowl…ally-oop (sp?) to TT who bangs his head on the ceiling of the UC and throws it down while smacking his balls on D Howards face. Orlando calls a timeout, Noahs jumps up down banging his chest with his fist, and the fans erupt so loud that I have no idea what Johnny Red Kerr just said.

Not sure what to make of this:

“Following the title game, Rose was crying, hugging Reggie and spiritual advisor Jesse Jackson outside the Memphis locker room.”

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/columns/story?id=3452587

I don’t know if I want Jesse to be his spiritual advisor.

It's a Simeon thing

Jackson is a big booster(I don’t know about money wise, but he’s a major presence supporting Simeon’s mission) of Simeon.

Go to Simeon’s website. Jesse’s on the frontpage.

Classic 3-4 Tweener

Beasley is going to be a helluva scorer in the league, no doubt. He may even be a more athletic Carmelo Anthony or a more dominant Antawn Jamison. He may put up 20 and 10. But Rose has the chance to be a once in a lifetime player, at a position that is becoming more important post hand check era. Last year, although there was some debate, Oden was the once in a lifetime player at a position that is hard to fill. Durant will be a big time scorer, but Oden is an anomaly. Rose is that anomaly this year. We’re lucky to be in this position and if we make the right choice (Rose) these Bulls can be champions.

P.S. I can’t wait to see T-Time and Noah sprinting the wings in a three on two fast break with Rose at the Point. We’re gonna see some Pete Maravich dimes and monster throw downs! Gordon brings up the rear and spots up at the three point line, and ROse has options…damn. Can’t Wait…

Self-Fulfilling Fallacy

The best part of this is the “dude, 20-10 = pwnage” argument quickly followed by the “I know Deng averaged 20 ppg but that’s an illusion” argument.
Of course, “Beastley-pwnage-dude”, got his averages against stiff Big 12 competition while Deng only pulled his against the relative dirth of talent that is the NBA.
Dude, pwnage. suxorz.

by JSlakov on Jun 20, 2008 1:54 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it's time to give it up, BornaBull.

I suggest you do what I’m doing, and that’s look for all the positives about Rose. Believe me, there are many.

We had a bunch of Rose youtubes on here a few weeks ago, and honestly, I’d never seen anything like the guy. His crossover alone is so good it’ll make you laugh. He leaves guys actually standing still…sometimes even looking the wrong way…as he blows by them.

You know

I look at point guard in the NBA kind of like running back in the NFL. Extremely important position in establishing pace and game control. And similar to point guards, you routinely see players taken early in the draft that have all of the great measurable statistics, backing up why they should be the next Walter Payton or Gale Sayers. But in both leagues and for those two positions especially, those measurables mean less and less. As long as there are Rajon Rondos and Clinton Portis’s, players that are taken late in the draft without much fanfare yet end up being fantastic players, I will not be convinced that any player is worthy of the hype.
What i’m trying to say is Derrick Rose could be Adrian Peterson (Vikings) or he could be Cedric Benson, there’s really no way to know for sure. Not that Beasley is a sure thing, far from it actually, but with Point Guard, like running back, so much of the job has to do with instincts and intangibles. Sure Derrick Rose has a better chance of being great, but who can really tell if he has what it takes to be special? More than anything else it just comes down to: Can you play the position?

Beasley! Beasley! Beasley! Beasley!

It’s risky but if he is great we are better than if rose is great – i don’t see who we get for hinrich

by JustAnotherFan on Jun 20, 2008 5:06 PM CDT reply actions

i like beasley but...

he isn’t going to make us any better than what we are. we might get a few more wins, but we need a leader on the court. rose is going to do his thing and make everyone around him better. mainly guys like tyrus and noah who can finish at the rim. even guys like luol, noch and gorden should improve because rose can easily get to the basket and he has the passing ability to kick out to the open man. the same way in did in high school and in college.

I don't know that Riley is tricking the Bulls...

the Bulls fans, however, may be a different story.

Bulls still have a chance to do the right thing and pick Beasley.

We need an explosive PG!!!!!

Hinrich’s not gonna do the job and neither is BG!! If you don’t have a good playmaker in the backcourt you’re nothin!! Look at MAGIC and Kareem, CHRIS PAUL and TC, PARKER and Duncan!!! Huff…pufff….I gotta take a deep breath….all this Beasley talk is making me angry….and you won’t like me when I’m angry….

by JohnnyKilroy on Jun 20, 2008 8:45 PM CDT up reply actions

And...

AVERY and Duncan/Robinson…or is this an exception? Is Rajon Rondo a great playmaker? Has Chris Paul won yet?

I believe the Bulls should take the best player. Great players win championships. If that’s Rose, that’s great. He just happens to also be a great playmaker in the backcourt.

by poster on Jun 21, 2008 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Whatever...

You just stated about five lines up that D-Rose made people look silly on all the “YouTube” clips you’ve been watching. I would bet this is ALL you have ever seen of D-Rose.

Honestly, you shouldn’t be allowed to weigh in on the subject anymore.

I watched the Tennessee game plus all the tourny games,

which probably puts me in the same boat with most of the people here.

I think it’s interesting that among the commenters who seem to have watched significantly more than that, they generally sound like they’re leaning toward Beasley.

i can't WAIT

for thursday so all this energy wasted debatin’ to be over. honestly i’d still be happy with a 9th pick as long as hinrich was gone- that’s how much he holds us back. IMO. thabo is the 6’7 beige kirk. hinrich is no captain, he lacks the voice and aggression.
PS: sorry i know this rant belongs on the “I HATE HINRICH” thread.

by MarketMaker on Jun 21, 2008 4:19 AM CDT up reply actions

The Bulls would love Thabo to become the 6'7 beige Krik, as you say.

That would mean he would have the qualities to back-up (and very well) the point, the 2, and with his height and current skillset, also the 3. Only he would not be paid 10mil per year and would be happy to produce from the bench (25+ min a game).

The Game chose him !

First off....

Thabo is maybe the best defensive guard on our roster, better than Hinrich IMO. Second, Deng and the rest of our big men will get better but it all starts with a good playmaker in the backcourt; hence Rose.
