Gordon, Deng situation.

After we draft we will have roughly 10 million to throw around am I not the only one who thinks having Josh Smith or Andre Iguodala? Who wouldnt want to get out of Atlanta and play with us/ Andre Iguodala is from Illinois just like a certain PG in the draft. Smith turns 23 in December Iggy turns 25 in January. Out of Deng, Gordon, Smith and Igoudala we only have enough loot to pay one.  Ben Gordon is a great shooter but gets exposed defensively from being undersized and a lack of explosiveness. The fact we are stuck with Hughes means Gordons out. Deng seemes to disappear in more important games. He is a great guy who will never give anyone in the front office problems a hard worker as well. His lack of explosiveness and three point shooting are the reasons he cant create his own shot. How both of these guys played for their contract years was pretty bad I mean the whole Kobe thing could of got to them too but if that was going to effect their performance that much there is a problem. Look at the stats PER 48.

Igoudala 24.1 ppg 6.1 rpg 5.8 apg 2.53 stl 0.73 blk 1.83 ato 495% afg

Smith 23.3 ppg 11.1 rpg 4.5 apg 2.05 stl 3.79 blk 1.11 ato 468% afg

Deng 24.2 ppg 8.9 rpg 3.5 apg 1.29 stl 0.65 blk 1.29 ato 483% afg

Smith is clearly the best of these 3 and is 8 months younger than Deng and 2 years younger than Igoudala. I know hes not effecient offensively as Igoudala but if we draft a certain young point guard he could help. Imagine Rose on a fast break having an option of Smith, Tyrus, Gooden and Hughes. Speaking of Tyrus if we were to get Smith we could ship Tyrus alongside of Kirk in return for a solid center. Defensively we could have Noah, Tyrus, Smith, Nocioni, Rose that should get us back to near leauge leading defense again.

Noah - Grey

Gooden - Tyrus

Smith - Nocioni

Hughes - Sefolasha

Rose - Hinrich

If we sign Smith for around 10-12 million a year that leaves us with 10 million more for next season if we dont spend that we will have 25 for 2004 draftee or an Amare.

I think Deng might benefit more from Rose

than any other player on the team. He will have so many wide open weak side 12 foot looks, as his man peels off to slow down Rose’ penetration.

Everyone benefits

From getting Rose. Should Deng get 10 mil to knock down wide open 12 footers? Smith can hit wide open 12 footers, anchor your defense and be a huge fast break asset. He can play and defend the 4 which means we could move Tyrus for a bigger body or a back-up PG.(if we trade Hinrich).

What about kirk

I have yet to hear how he will benefit…..

On Behalf of Sue, Wjb, Bullshooter, and all the other Hinrich fans...Ill keep the Hinrich Hope coming...There will be light....

by piccolomair on Jun 2, 2008 8:25 PM CDT up reply actions

why would he not get as many open looks off the peel off as Deng? Kirk could play off the ball more and spot up as well. I think Kirk will benefit most from the free travel package were going to send his way though honestyly.

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 8:28 PM CDT up reply actions

He won't have to play as much

So he’ll benefit by being able to go out and drink more often.

Aww

Kirk is now getting all the duhon jokes thrown at him…great….kirk will eventually fall to duhon status…is this what is taking place with rose coming to town….horrid…absolutely horrid.

Deng does more than that

he rebounds, plays good D, slashes, and has a developing post game and 3 pt shot. He was hurt last year, and it was just a weird, weird year. He’s also 23.

We’re undervaluing him.

do you think Deng is better than Smith?

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think its clear cut

Smith was better last year, Deng the year before. We will see how they do this year.

by JeffD on Jun 3, 2008 8:24 AM CDT up reply actions

I might just do that

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Hes still younger, faster, and 10x explosive.

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 8:04 PM CDT reply actions

Maybe

A sign and trade Smith for Deng it would save both teams money. Hollinger says the Hawks would match 12 mil 5 year 60 mil but since they got Bibby next years salary would be 51 million after drafting we should be at 53 million but as a franchise we can spend alot more than them (not like we ever did). With the possiblities of putting two young studs like Smith and Rose we would profit enough to cover the 3-4 more million than last year for gods sake we were 22nd.

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 8:31 PM CDT reply actions

You forgot to mention Smith is a PF

At least that’s where he achieved all these numbers. He plays PF for the Hawks. That, and you took a regression season from deng, yet the two best seasons from Iguodala and Smith. Smith is an interesting player, but he’s been known for his attitude problems. That’s one of the reasons he dropped in the draft and the one reason why the Hawks are even slightly considering letting him go.

by CJ Bulls on Jun 2, 2008 9:35 PM CDT reply actions

Deng and Gordon

I think we can sign both Deng and Gordon since they will both be under the BYC portion of their contract (as opposed to players coming from a new team). So in total we could spend ~$20 million since only half of that would apply to the cap.

by Jamaicanpi on Jun 2, 2008 10:02 PM CDT reply actions

that's only in trades

the cap amount for the purpose of the Bulls own cap calculation is equal to the contract amount.

The more I look at it

Maybe we should step out of a win now situation and stockpile young talent. I know your saying thats what we have but we have no star if Rose is going to become a star we need to put an all star big man next to him. I still beleive if were opening the check book why not get the best player.

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 10:30 PM CDT reply actions

Wait wait wait

If the Bulls get Josh Smith (and they won’t) who will Tyrus go apeshit on?

by paxson43 on Jun 2, 2008 10:41 PM CDT reply actions

Jason Kidds wife I heard shes an easy target

by TRiCioNeRo on Jun 2, 2008 10:50 PM CDT up reply actions

It's plays like that

That really remind me why I hope we just hang on to Tyrus…..

God if he can just pull everything together, we’d totally have a superstar….

We were expecting a project with him, and then he overachieved as a rookie, but fell fast as a sophomore….

Let’s hang onto Tyrus….we can afford to let him progress…..he could be our best player soon.

I am conflicted though becasue I want us to draft Beasley instead of Rose. I think we already have a decent PG and have a real need for that inside game. Beasley can shoot, can rebound, can score in the paint.

Rose can pass the ball, but he can’t shoot worth a damn….he doesn’t really fill a need….he’d be a great to have, especially if we had the #2 pick….but let’s go all out for the best player in this draft (Beasley)....that might be nice to get the surefire superstar, instead of the “guy who plays the game the right way from a winning program”...

by majoyenrac on Jun 3, 2008 7:59 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm with you on some

I think so many of our guys had career-worst years last year and, with a #1 pick in the mix, I’d like to avoid big moves just to see what type of talent we actually have. And Thomas is at/near the top of that list.
I also think Thomas had his best games when he got significant minutes at the 4 (meaning Beasley wouldn’t be the best pick, assuming we’d like to keep Thomas). He’s undersized, but he’s quick around the basket and it allows him to play his best defense…patrolling close to the basket.
It’s for these reasons that these trade scenarios leave me feeling blase. I think we’re better off working our new, hot player into the mix, seeing what a year of good coaching does to this team, and move players while they’re hot, instead of undervalued.

Josh Smith is....

what Tyrus can be…maybe even better with a game changin point guard….Luol had a down yr and still averaged 17 and 6 a game….Josh had such a “great yr” but he only averaged 17 and 8 only 2 rebounds better…and Josh average 3 turnovers a game….i think the Bulls would be stupid to trade Luol or Tyrus this offseason….now Krik or Ben they can get the hell outta here!

To be fair

Smith’s numbers went down because of the emergence of Horford and Marvin Williams as reliable scorers/rebounders. So, unless they decide to make JJ and Smith the focal points of the offense, his numbers will stay in that Rasheed Wallace zone of 18/8.

OVERRATED… Being a good player on a bad team is easy.

by FUTURE12 on Jun 4, 2008 11:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Smith is interesting

but the way to get Smith is to look for an Atlanta sign and trade. I posted a while back that I believe the protracted legal battle going on between the guys who own the team has put a requirement on the team that it can’t sign any player to more than a four year contract.

I think this presents an excellent opportunity to grab Smith from them. I’d happily trade them Tyrus for Smith.

Less happily, I could see a deal working with them where they get Gordon, signed and traded bigger but shorter 3 year deal, and we get Smith, signed to a longer term deal.

by Sports2 on Jun 3, 2008 10:33 AM CDT reply actions

If you sign Josh Smith to a max long term deal....

it will hinder the Bulls in having money freed up for the greatest free agent crop in NBA history in 2010…i’ll rather have a chance at Lebron than Josh Smith for 5 yrs lol

I'd rather try to get Childress for a bit cheaper

the guy’s not that far off from Deng, in my opinion, different game but very effective, talented, young player who seems to play winning basketball
