Rose not planning to visit Miami?
[From the FanPosts. The whole series of quotes is quite weird, but Rose may have accidentally just shown Pax's hand. -ed.]
But as Rose concluded his two-day visit with the Bulls Thursday at the Berto Center, the point guard sounded unsure if he even had a workout scheduled with the Miami Heat, owners of the second pick in the June 26 NBA draft.
"I don't think so," Rose said. "I think I have to ask [agent] B.J. [Armstrong] or someone about it. But all I know now is that I'm here."
Rose's older brother and confidante, Reggie, went even stronger, saying Rose won't visit Miami because "this is our last stop."
Well, I guess all the Bulls had to do was look into B-Easy's eyes and see Looney Tunes and t-t-t-t-t-that's all folks!

I thought I read he worked out for Miami already
Maybe he just meant not going to Miami to work out? As in the went to him.

Well, Ira says they met with him....
Following the Mayo workout, the Heat’s scouting staff leaves for the west coast, where it will meet with possible No. 1 overall pick Derrick Rose, the freshman guard from Memphis, and then scout a large open workout of players expected to go in the middle to the end of the first round, with that session hosted by the Warriors.

That was after pre-draft as well,
However, Ira also has picked up on the quotes from the press conference today, and he doesn’t mention there having been a prior workout, so it sounds like it either never happened or wasn’t a full workout.

How protective is his brother, Reggie?
I’m a recent Illinois grad, and I remember Reggie almost being his spokesperson when Weber was recruiting him. Does anyone know if Reggie is going to follow everywhere he goes? It almost seems like he’s there anytime Rose speaks, and makes you want to think he might actually sit on the bench during games. Even if he’s just driving Rose to and from practice and games, that’s creepy.

Reggie is
a nut when it comes to his little bro. I’m a former Illini and DI Sports Editor and he wouldn’t even allow Derrick to talk to us, he’d provide quotes via email or text message and it was all a big, big pain in the ass. I doubt he’ll be as bad now that we’re talking about the NBA but who knows.

The reason Reggie hates Illinois
is because he was snubbed and didn’t get an offer as a recruit himself. So when his brother, and his All-American skills came around, Reggie did everything he could to make sure he DIDN’T go to Illinois.

IMO, if the Rose camp has decided not to work out elsewhere,
it seems more likely that it’s their decision, given the increasingly numerous predictions that he goes first, than that no-news-Pax even privately announced a decision. From all reports, he has nothing to lose by not working out down there.

Yeah, that's probably too strong a phrase,
but there are posts around here that are highly pro-Rose and anti-Beasley. It seems like there are a lot of people expressing that sentiment elsewhere, too, but we’ll never know if they really mean it unless Beasley turns out to be the pick.

I don't think it's blasphemy at all...
I have questions about it as well, I just feel like I have a good idea what kind of leader option B (Beasley) would be, and I’m not that thrilled about the alternative.
Some teams don’t need a leader and can draft a player like Beasley and plug in his 20-10 output nightly, but the Bulls definitely need a leader. Rose could be that guy, but it’s only natural to question how any rookie can accomplish this.

There's always some need for vocal leadership
The Clippers plugged Brand in because they had Cassell, who basically is more of a coach than a player these days. I think he’s a horrible player now because all he does is shoot, but signing him to a 1 year deal just to have someone not named Joakim call out players would be nice.

I guess I'm thinking more about Miami...
If they draft Beasley, I highly doubt Wade will concede his leadership role on that team.
Beasley will still of course lead by example on the court, but even by his own admission he doesn’t take much seriously. Obviously he takes basketball seriously, but off the court do you envision him calling out players in the locker room? And if so, how do you think they’ll respond?
This isn’t a loaded question, I’m really asking here.

I do agree that that is a tough line to walk,
but there are people who manage it really successfully. IMO, it’s as likely Beasley finds the balance between play time and work time to become a successful leader as it is Rose develops into a vocal leader.

I agree...
I also like the idea of our PG being the vocal leader on the floor.
I think part of the reason Steve Kerr and John Paxson were so successful in hitting clutch 3’s were because they had the fear of Michael holding them accountable for open misses. While MJ wasn’t our PG, the offense always went through him, and he let it be known that he would do anything to win. That fire is contagious. We need that. Every team needs that.

Just to spite the media, Paxson will now select
Kevin Love with the number one overall pick.
“It’s the media’s business to speculate. But it’s not our business. They thought that we were going to take Rose, sure. It’s their job to sell papers in Chicago. Rose is a Chicago guy. I understand that. But what you need to understand is that we had a process. We followed it thorugh to the end. When we analyzed all of the data, including the results of our thorough battery of psychological tests, it became pretty clear that Kevin Love perfectly matches the system we’re trying to build here. Jerry and I talked it over with Vinny. He’s a competitor. Our fans will identify with him. We’re proud of our pick”
