The top draft prospects will make two-day visits to the Berto Center next week. Kansas State power forward Michael Beasley will be in first, on Monday and Tuesday; followed by Memphis point guard Derrick Rose on Wednesday and Thursday.

We need to learn
which players Beasley and Rose will work out against.

I don't believe
the top prospects work out against anyone. Alas.

Some do, some don't. It's their call.

pretty sure
they’re going to be solo workouts, unless they are playing against second rounders – given the fact i’m pretty sure the bulls are not bringing other lottery picks in.

it's just a question of which assistant coach
or which item of furniture.

I wonder if either guy will be as impressive as Yi’s domination of that folding chair last year.

I'm almost sure
that someone said that the only players that would come to the Berto Center would be Beasley and Rose…At least, the Bulls only want to take a look at this two.
One thing I don’t understand. Isn’t two days a short time to watch both? Shouldn’t they be here more time?
When are you going to do something good Pax?

Yeah!
But we will choose one of these guys, no one else from the 1st round. I’m not saying I have doubts about Rose abilities, but, maybe, they should be here more time just for us to make sure that we pick the right guy
Please Pax!!! Can you trade Hughes???

Unless they are playing full court 5 on 5 isn't it a little bit arbitrary?
I mean of course Beasley should look better in a half court game of 2 on 2.

Just guessing...
but at this point I’d think the Bulls biggest concern is about how Beasley or Rose “fits” with being the leader of the franchise. Paxson said this visit will include whatever psychological testing the Bulls do, plus a lot of one-on-one converstion with him…and now with Del Negro.

I was commenting on them not working out against anyone.
Hard to tell with the thread spacing.
Of course their workouts (drills and what not) are anything but arbitrary, I just don’t think you can judge them against who they are playing unless you put them in a full court 5 on 5 game.
Per your comment however, sure, I’m curious about their psychological makeup and what not too.

I believe you are right Alec.
I would think this might hurt Beasley. Unless the “sarcastic” show that he puts on doesn’t bother the bulls, and their psycho analysis personnel think he has a winning/leadership mentality. Just based on interviews and a couple articles in newspapers, D. Rose seems more stable mentally, but I’m not a psychiatrist that can read/understand the core of either player.

We are also talking about a team that drafted...
Ron Artest, and Eddy Curry.
Slightly OT, but has anyone ever read Curry’s wiki page?
“In 2000 Eddy was the first (and only) person to ever be named all-state in basketball and freestyle gymnastics. In 2001, Curry led his team to second place in the IHSA State Playoffs. He was named to the 1998, 1999 and 2000 State Farm Holiday Classic all-tournament teams. In 2000 Curry performed at the United States High School Gymnastics Expo finishing with all around gold. His first performance was on the un-even bars. Curry struggled due to his massive frame and seemingly unorthodox style but quickly rebounded with a stellar pommel horse performance and finished with a truly inspired floor performance.”
Is this a joke?

That's why schools don't let kids ref the wiki.
That is hilarious.
Eddy Curry could do a standing back-flip when he was a senior in high school. Amazing, when you consider his size and weight, but hardly the stuff of national high school gymnastics tournament winners.

Will Ferril doing his floor routine. The big kid on the vault. Vince Vaughn smoking on the rings. Good times.

lol I got that image of Ben Stiller from Dodgeball
At the end when he’s super fat again….watching women’s gymnastics on the Ocho.
I’m also going to venture Curry can’t do gymnastics well, if he ever did them at all. I’m no expert of that sport, but male gymnasts tend to be built out of muscle, not out of Crisco and fudge.

It seems like this is the one little window of time
when the normally pathetic Bulls.com site has the best scoop. Last year they had nice video interviews with each of the prospects as they came through.

SOOOOOOO?
The workouts start today? I remember seeing Beasley will come in the Berto center at June 16 and 17…Rose will come 18 and the 19…Just wondering!
by SK23 on Jun 16, 2008 12:18 PM CDT 0 recs
I wonder how much information the Bulls
are going to give out to the press/public during and after these workouts. Any chance they really give us all a headsup as to which player they will be drafting? How often do teams notify the press their intentions of who they are selecting #1 before the actual draft day?
by Mattchoo on Jun 16, 2008 12:37 PM CDT 0 recs
The club should be tight lipped
The more you talk publicly about your intentions the more leverage you give away with the first overall pick. Keep the teams selecting after you guessing.
I’m hoping the Bulls bring in one or two other lottery players if they’re willing to work out for the Bulls.

nobody will be fooled
except in 3 years when you’ll insist that the Bulls are interested in dealing for Brook Lopez because they once brought him in for a workout.

What's to leverage?
I seem to recall calling you out about this before. There’s nothing to be leveraged here. The only team the Bulls should even consider dealing the #1 pick to is Miami and they damn better be sure to get the #2 in return. Other than that, why the hell would the Bulls want to deal down? To get more draft picks this year? There are 2 potential stars in this draft, the Bulls should take which ever one they want and not worry what’s going to happen in the draft behind them.

There are undoubtedly more than 2 potential stars in this draft...
It’s just that Rose and Beasley are the two most obvious ones at this point.
I still say we should draft Rose, but don’t kid yourself into believing that other teams won’t benefit with a star or two from this draft as well.

Sorry, let me rephrase
There are two players in the draft widely considered more likely to become stars than any other player in the draft.

His point was that there are widely considered to be two top players in this draft.
Beasley and Rose.
Paxson has more or less said he’s taking one of the two. He’s said that there are two players who stand above all the rest.
Obvioiusly there are going to be more stars in this draft. But there are two that are widely considered to be the best two players in the draft.

Yeah, I see that now in his clarification too...
And we would be foolish to not take one of the two.
It will still be quite interesting to see who beyond Beasley and Rose will become a force in the NBA. Personally I think Mayo will be quite good, maybe even a star.

In DX's 1st round mock draft
there is not a single player listed simply as a shooting guard. There are pg/sg’s and sg/f’s. A guy I like who I think has a chance to be a real good sg is Courtney Lee.
I only saw him play in the tournament, and I thought he was great, but the rest of his team was too weak to advance.

Can you think of guards
that have been all-stars that coming into the draft didn’t have a clear cut position as either a shooting guard or a point guard?

Some considered LeBron James a PG/SG – http://www.mynbadraft.com/2003
But obviously he’s a forward now.

``I know they got two great guards [Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich];Luol Deng at the three; Tyrus Thomas; Joakim Noah at [center]. I think I’d fit in real good at the three or four spot. I can play any position you want me to.

Gee, I wonder who KC Johnson thinks should be the pick
Poking fun at both the importance of psychological testing and the so-called character issues that have followed him through five high schools in four years . . .
What a way to lead off an article. That’s almost up there with “Tyrus Thomas, who will be shopped . . .” How dare Beasley mock the importance of the Bulls’ sacred psychological testing.

More transcript style than an article – although he does say it’s just excerpts, I think it had some stuff the others didn’t.

interesting
that that article says he said “i wouldn’t be upset,” whereas the trib quoted him as saying “i wouldn’t be offended.” when i first read that trib quote i was like “offended”? as in… who cares if he is offended. but upset is more what i would have expected and more appropriate.

I'm always kind of surprised when quotes don't match from article to article.
It just doesn’t seem like that tough of a thing to get right. But then, I’ve never been in journalism, so maybe there are issues there I’m not aware of.
I do like having transcripts of press conferences, though, instead of just the reporters’ write-ups. Sometimes the question asked, or full answer, or sequence of questions and answers makes a huge difference in how something comes across.
