2008 NBA Playoffs Open Thread

I got reamed a new one by the evil and dictatorial friendlyBullsBlogger last night for having the audacity to even mention something about a playoff game and/or player. "SHUT UP YOU IDIOT!!!" he said. I cried, thought of committing suicide, returned, and attempted to make a snarky comment that would send everyone laughing. I failed miserably.

All that said, I sit here about to watch the Lakers and Jazz (I'm really starting to hate the Lakers) play and thought we might want a dedicated thread for the next month and a half.

Yay!

As long as the Celtics are in contention, I'll be rooting for the Lakers

I’ve always hated the Celtics and love the idea that they seem to be so close to a run of championships only that the Lakers look to be even better over the next few years.

We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.

The Lakers are incredibly young.

Fisher and Kobe are sort of old, but who else is?

A number of them have been around awhile (or seem like it because everyone talks about the Lakers), but they’re still pretty young overall.

I go to school in the Northeast,

and I couldn’t agree with you more. I am rooting for every team that plays the Celtics (or any Boston/New England team in any sport.) If I get one more Celtic’s fan asking me how the Bulls did this year, I’m going to snap. Go whomever plays Boston!

kudos to you for the quotesy, caps-locked potato (or corn) product

but a real BaB playoff thread would immediately state who the ‘right’ team to win it all is.

which one of the choices is the new orleans hornets?

i wish someone had told me that sportsnation had replaced rationality with caps lock.

I root for LeBron, proving my Boston hate

Is it because I didn’t notice KG’s uber RAWR I PLAY THE GAME HARD, THUS BURNING MYSELF OUT ANNUALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS for the past few years while he languished in Minnesota? Or that Ray Allen is a shell of himself, yet somehow they are a “Big 3 (when Rondo has replaced him as the 3rd most important player)? I find Kobe far less irritating, as his jersey popping is quite comical, and no worse than LeBron trying to break the rim with every dunk and looking like you shot his mother after each play.

This is the Lakers’ season. They have played the best down the stretch, their offense is simply on fire, and I doubt Boston (or wack-ass Detroit) has the defensive capability to shut down a well-oiled machine like the Lakers when they aren’t fighting like little girls.

Wouldn't it be

the Old Jazz? Since the were the Jazz before they moved to Utah?

right.

they are the “new” jazz because they are now in new orleans… the original home of the (“old”) jazz.

by Jaina on May 14, 2008 9:54 AM CDT up reply actions

er

to expand a little: the hornets were never the jazz. the jazz only moved but never changed names. therefore they are the old jazz.

Potential for a Pistons and a Cavs playoff defeat

on the same day – that would make for a sweet weekend.

My Bulls may suck, but my Jayhawks are National Champs!

it would

sure make this day a little better.

Lakers Jazz game today was easily the best of the playoffs

At least for me in terms of entertainment. Lamar Odom is simply ridiculous. Makes you wonder what kind of player he could be if he actually worked hard

wow

Bos vs Cle – game 4…uhhh did I just see Lebron’s mom jump in KG’s face??

LOL @ Lebron telling her to “sit yo ass down!”

At least there's something exciting with that series

Bleh. At least have a decent jumper if you want to rock #23, although the 13 assists were quite impressive.
