Sixers interested in Ben Gordon?
The Sixers have cap space to sign a max free agent this summer, and their first target should be Clippers power forward Elton Brand, who would fit beautifully with their up-tempo style. If they can't lure the potential free agent out of Los Angeles, however, two league insiders prophesy a move to land Bulls restricted free agent Ben Gordon, an undersized shooting guard who could share the backcourt with big point guard Andre Miller.

Interesting...
From Philly’s perspective I can see how this makes some sense, because Willie Green was maybe the worst starting 2 guard in the league, and also because they could really use a shooter, since their other perimeter guys (Miller, Iguodala) aren’t great shooters at all. And since Miller is big for a point guard, he and Gordon could be interchangable on defense and Miller could help to defend some of the bigger 2 guards if needed.
I wonder what this would mean for Iguodala though, since he’s a restricted free agent too. I’m assuming they’ll re-sign him. And does this mean they’ll stick with the small ball and have Thaddeus Young as their starting power forward?
All of this just makes their team so small. Miller, Gordon, Iggy, Young, and Dalembert as their starters. Then their back-up off the bench for Grodon & Miller would be Louis Williams, who is also really small. This would be too similar to the 3 man undersized backcourt rotation of Hinrich-Grodon-Duhon.
I just don’t see that happening. Philly should have better options as a young up and coming team with alot of cap space. The Elton Brand signing would be great for them though. If they get him and a wing shooter they’ll be tough next year.

I think it's independent of Iguodala
They’ll sign him regardless. Lou Williams is also a restricted FA, although they can sign him too figuring that Andre Miller has only one good year left anyway. His cap hold is pretty small, so they can simply sign Gordon first and then sign Williams with the Bird exception.
Sixers also need a PF, so whoever that is, they could move Thaddeus Young to the bench. I agree that a Miller/Gordon/Iggy/Young/Dalembert lineup is a bit too small.
Also, no matter if Andre Miller is indeed a big PG, he’s still not a good defender.

I think we agree
This probably won’t happen. A Miller-Gordon-WIlliams backcourt rotation just wouldn’t work (as seen from the Bulls), because of size matchups defensively. They’re more in need of signing Brand or Jamison or somebody to play the 4 and finding a wing defender type player who can knock down 3’s (somebody like Raja Bell, Anthony Parker). Young is probably better off the bench for now anyways. He’s undersized for the 4 and a 1-2-3 lineup of Miller-Iggy-Young wouldn’t give them enough shooting. He and WIlliams will give them good energy off the bench though.

They moved Young to the starter position
because the team was a .700 club when he starts and sub .500 team when he came off the bench.

right, lack of a better option
They will likely use their FA money to find one.

Andre Miller isn't that small
He’s the only PG I’ve seen so far try to post up Billups.

"since Miller is big for a point guard"
it was right there in the post.

No, he's not
He’s big for a point guard, but still small to cover alot of 2’s. And when the guard playing alongside you is always Gordon or Williams, then you have a problem. I think it’s fine to play 2 guys that small some of the game but not to have a 3 man rotation in the backcourt with everybody 6-3 or under.

How high would you guys go to match a Philly offer?
I like Gordon more than a lot of people on here, and I’d hate to lose him for nothing, but if they actually offer him $12 or $13 million a year I don’t think I’d match that. I know that kind of money sounds ridiculous, but it wouldn’t be the first time a team lost out on its top free agent priority (In Philly’s case, Brand) and overpaid its second option. The problem is that if Gordon gets that much, then Deng will want more than that, and it would put the Bulls close to the luxury tax. That’s a terrible place to be for a below .500 team.

lets say someone
offers that much for Deng, do we match or let him walk? I say walk…
I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

they might also try and sign Deng
instead of BG.
2008 or bust.

Why?
They already have Iguodala and Young for the 3. They don’t need a guy like Deng at all.
