Phoenix (Kerr, Starver) want more defense
Thibodeau makes defense happen
Chicago and NY are interested in Thibodeau
Phoenix allow Chicago and NY talk with D'Antoni

One of the three will have to settle with someone else (that is not Thibodeau or D'Antoni).

Who will this be ?

Kerr gives Bulls permission to talk with D'Antoni may be bad news for the Bulls

It seems evident Kerr wants a defensive minded coach and D’Antoni wants out. D’Antoni would have to walk away from 8.5 million which would make Kerr happy since Thibedeau would come cheaper. Knowing Reinsdorf, he would prefer whoever costs him less, so am I being paranoid when I fear he would not sign D’Antoni because he would have to fork up at least more than he was making at Phoenix and the Bulls might pass for that reason?.

I think the Bulls need an uptempo offensive guru more than another defensive guy. We had one with Skiles and the players eventually tuned him out. I like Thibedeau but I love the thought of having D’Antoni light a fire under them . There must be some other talented defensive assistants who can teach and motivate and would love to land in Chicago.

If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost. You can still call him vile names.

Yes, indeed,

I see this as a move from Phoenix (they now are convinced that they won’t have D’Antoni next year) to “eliminate” one of the candidates interested in Thibodeau, by “dumping” D’Antoni and his remaining salary on one of them, and therefore getting a bigger chance at getting Thibodeau. If that makes sense at all.

If the knicks go full steam for it, and Reinsdorf doesn’t for the reasons you stated, the Bulls could end up with whoever is left in the end (Avery, Avery or Avery).

One guy that has never been mentioned and that I liked when he coached in Charlotte/New Orleans is Paul Silas. He was a player coach, but with some good X and Os. Hell, he was the only one who could make Jerome Moiso look almost like an all-star (well, not quite, but he never showed anything except for his year playing for Silas).

The Game chose him !
