Carlisle will not be Bulls coach

Peter Vescey is reporting that Rick Carlisle has agreed to be the Dallas Maverick's coach.

Sources told The Post last night that the former Pacer and Piston coach, who interviewed with Walsh for the Knick coaching job Wednesday, has agreed to terms with the Mavericks to replace Avery Johnson.

I have no idea who our coach may be but it doesn't look like one of the retreads.  I have a feeling this search is going well into June.

That was fast...

(though this is the same Vecsey who reported that Derrick Coleman needs a new heart yesterday, which Derrick himself denied today). Cuban acted quickly. I think that could be good for the Mavs. Carlisle’s intensity might not wear as thin on a team that’s had Avery, and he’ll likely diversify their offense a bit.

Funny though—two days ago when D’Antoni started looking available some praised Pax’s patience. Now that Cuban snapped up Carlisle, look for some Chicago media to blast Pax for sitting around doing nothing.

I don't recall anyone getting excited about Carlisle

Maybe Mariotti will rip Paxson for not getting Brown, but what’s rumored to be left (‘cept for Avery) all seem to be more appealing candidates.

I'm glad

I want D’Antoni anyways.

So do I.

Personally, i think its d’antoni or bust. with carlisle gone, i dont think theres going to be another well-enough candidate to coach us next year. we could really use what D’A has to offer to pump up the offense we lacked this year. as for defense, i think we’re set as above average on that.

Finally: The End.

What about Tom Izzo?

Here is a summary from one of his books, Tom Izzo’s Basketball Smorgasbord ….

Before hitting the floor, he talks to coaches about how to develop accountability with players; this accountability model should be done before the season starts to set the tone for the season. Izzo’s on-floor presentation begins with quick hitting plays against the zone. Once taught, these zone looks (Double, Fist down and Special) are executed against a live defense. Also, Izzo shares video highlights against the zone. Izzo demonstrates some of his favorite baseline out of bounds plays in addition to a play for winning the tip and one for losing the tip. Shifting to the defensive end of the floor, he focuses on stance and positioning, as well as the line of the ball concept. Next, the 3-on-3 close out drill is demonstrated and executed on the floor. The drill progresses to 4-on-4 to include defending the flare screen and pin down screen. By adding an extra offensive player, the drill becomes 4 v 5. This drill demands great communication by the defense. Five concepts for guarding on-ball screens are presented. This is a great chance to get inside the mind of a basketball coaching great!

He has also written at least five other basketball books.

So he's in favor of accountablility

This is just a rumor, but I heard that he’s also in favor of hard work.

We aren't weak on defense

The Bulls quit on last season in every facet of the game. When you don’t care and don’t try your hardest, there’s no way you can be a top 2 defensive team like Chicago was the past 3 seasons. They won’t have that same attitude next season, especially if you hire a new coach that they would actually respect and play hard for.

carlisle
Carlisle lost momentum for the Bulls job, a league executive said, when Chicago officials kept hearing such unpleasant stories about his people skills from old colleagues in Detroit and Indiana.
