Trade Possibilities?

I think the Bulls should and will draft Derrick Rose.  Since many of the people on BlogaBull including me think Rose is the best choice for Chicago I am curious what we should do with Kirk Hinrich after we draft Derrick Rose.

Star-divide

I still would like to give Tyrus one more year to step it up, plus with Derrick Rose running the point Tyrus could improve greatly.  I also think we should give Joakim another year or two before we see if we could upgrade over him.  I would also like to sign Luol Deng so the position I think we should look to trade for is a good, big shooting guard.

The main reason why I also exclude from looking to trade for a good big is that their is almost no one the Bulls could get.  Elton Brand will resign with the Clippers and Al Jefferson will not be traded by Minnesota.  The one big I like a lot and has a pretty low value is Chris Wilcox.  I think with increased playing time Wilcox could develop into a pretty good big man down low.

As for trying to get a good shooting guard I would like a tall sg who has average to good defense and can shoot the 3 pretty well.  Andre Iguodala would be studly to get in free agency but it is almost impossible for the Bulls to get because of money issues and Philly made the playoffs.  Michael Redd is looking to get traded but I do not feel like having a taller version of Ben Gordon.  By no means is Redd a bad player, but I want to have a good defensive shooting guard who can make their opponet make mistakes.  I really like Mike Dunleavy and Danny Granger.  Granger would be harder to get but they would both, in my opinion, fit in the Bulls position well.  They both play good defense and our good shooters.  Dunleavy is more realistic fit for the Bulls based on who the Pacers would give up.  Mike Miller and Ricky Davis are also a decent fit for the Bulls.  Miller is a tall rebounding guard who can shoot the three but his defense is questionable.  Ricky Davis is just an all around player we we could possibly pick up in free agency.

I think we should keep Hinrich

Last year we paid Kirk $11 million. This year we’ll pay him $10, then $9.5, then $9, then $8 million in ‘11/’12. What’s remaining is really not that bad a contract; it’s about the same as what Mo Williams got last year (6 years, $52 mil) and less than T.J. Ford’s current contract (3 years, $33 mil). And I still see Hinrich getting his minutes with Rose on the team. Both players have enough size and defensive ability to play together, so Hinrich should have no trouble getting his 25mpg as the backup to both Rose and Thabo.

Keeping Kirk sounds fun

I’ve always liked his D and pretty much thought of him as a good complementary for a top playoff team. Question, can he play the 2? Rose is pretty much a lock on the 1 and i think Thabo needs more years. if they bench Rose i’d choke…

I swear

no fan deserves to have to try to figure out if his GM is a genius for a complete fucktard… it’s shit on the nerves.

Very level headed

and good point on the declining contract. The trouble may be Hinrich – he’s started for the first 5 years of his NBA career and now he’s supposed to take a bench role? I think he could be excellent coming off the bench, and further, I think he would excel in a role where he didn’t have to be “the guy” who creates, makes everyone better, etc. Though my lineup preference would be to start Gordon. With all that fast breaking and penetrating there’s bound to be a lot of open threes, and I would rather have BG shooting those than the Captain.

We DO still get to call him Captain, right?

About hinrich taking a bench role

Are we forgetting the treatment boylan gave him for awhile after he came back from injury? I think if it makes more sense to the team winning he might be more willing to go along with it and play hard.

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

He might also see it as a relief.

He doesn’t seem to be the type to relish pressure.

Need to check something

I like Dunleavy. I think he’d be a great part of this team, but what’s his contract like. And last year being something of a breakout year for him, what are the odds that he’d smoke our payroll?

by Alighieri on May 21, 2008 10:24 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

contract

dunleavy gets paid $8,219,008 this year and he has 4 years left on his contract

Chris Wilcox no longer feels left out. I’d say he’s BaB oddly-coveted 2nd team

Melo

If hes in play for that Melo Camby to NJ deal we can offer better assets than RJ. Land the big fish show Boston how a productive summer is supposed to go.

please no Melo. He's Beasley 1.0

All about him showing he’s an allstar, instead of winning. Same smirk too.

Even more to the point

will we be able to trade Gordon and Deng given their BYC status and only one trade exception?

by hlac on May 22, 2008 12:14 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Question

Can we trade Gordon for another player with BYC status, like Josh Childress? Since their contracts are basically the exact same (they were three picks apart), I imagine there’s some way to pull that deal off. By the way, I would like that to happen.

by YaoPau on May 22, 2008 12:42 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

As I understand it,

you still have to make separate deals for each player’s “other 50%.”

So, the answer is yes and no.

Does anyone

Have a ruling on any of this?

by TRiCioNeRo on May 22, 2008 1:16 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I know you didn't

just rip on my man Childress without giving a reason.

by YaoPau on May 22, 2008 10:54 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

You would take Josh Childress over Ben Gordon? Thta is just plain dumb. I bet you love Thabo too… and anybody who’s listed at 6-7 and SG, because height is all that matters, right?

by rb22 on May 22, 2008 5:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gordon, unlike say AI, who is also height challenged

Doesn’t play D, and can’t get to the hole.

Another possibility with Miami

Why dont we swap picks with them this year for their pick next year? Then we would have #2 first rounders next season and perhaps we could combine them to move up for another lottery pick.

Might be a good move

if after our due diligence we determine that the Beasley qua Rose decision is a wash. I personally don’t think it is (go Rose), but obviously our front office will have access to more info than we do. Considering what Pax did with the Aldridge/Tyrus swap, I think he’d be open to this if he knew he could still get his guy.

by arjoseph on May 22, 2008 4:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Depends on

how drunk Pax can get other coaches and GM’s at next weeks predraft workouts.

by sue369 on May 22, 2008 10:21 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gotta say, Pax did dlook a little tipsy toward the end of the interview.

What’s that line from A Christmas Carol? “I’m as giddy as a school girl”—pretty much described Pax yesterday.

Nah he's a slasher

We just need to find a YouTube mix of him and send it to Elgin Baylor, Kevin McHale, and Chris Wallace. Maybe Steve Kerr will give us Amare so he can shore up his defense.

No matter how sun-burnt Steve Kerr’s brain is, he would never trade Amare unless it was for Tim Duncan.

if he weren’t in Memphis with a directive not to spend. It’s too bad he couldn’t have ended up in NYC.

I dont think

Amares in play….. I mean if Phoenix moves Boris Diaw for an expiring contract in 2010 2011 they sill have Amare, Barbosa and some 20 Mil in cap space.

Keep the core and let the ROSE blossom slowly.

Keep the same starters out there (Deng,Gooden,Noah,Hinrich&Hughes) to set the platform, then begin to swing in the the 2nd team, starting with Rose in for Hughes. We should see early if Hinrich’s game improves. Then switch in the bigs Thomas&Grey for Noah&Gooden. If Rose can draw double teams, Thomas can sneak in for those baseline lobs with Greys body screening for him. Sweet. Then Bring in the final pieces of the puzzle with Nocioni&Gordon. They should provide ample time for Hinrich&Deng to rest and watch for weaknesses in the defense as they sit on the bench. If the formula works, the defense would have by then exhausted them selves chasing Rose around and protecting the baseline from Thomas, that Nocioni and Gordon should find themselves with an open shot selection. All the bulls shooters really needed last season was that comfortable separation to see the basket and square-up. Look for an increase in their shooting percentages this season if Rose becomes the man.

and bench em…. thats inspiring.

such pessimism.

dont over react guy, we dont need a rookie stepping over everybody’s shoes right off the bat. We’ve all seen the bullies lose their heads when there was just a threat of a shake-up before the season even started. Its still fresh in their minds. Bring in Rose to close-off the quarter. Perhaps in the final four mins and start a couple more in the beginning of the nxt. I’m not saying to sit ‘em and only bring him in when a starter is winded or in foul trouble, that’s ridiculous. Eventually I do want him to take over that starting role, as soon as the team clicks when he’s running the floor we’ll all see the full potential.

SLOWLY!

the good thing about us getting Rose (oh please baby jesus!) is that nothing will be slow anymore… TT is going to be so good with Rose

agree except for "protect baseline from Thomas"

I hope he gets to that point. If you had said, protect “bugs on upper backboard from Thomas”, or “protect floorboards from Thomas”, or “protect shot selection stats” from Thomas, I would agree 100%.

How many rookies have blossomed by not starting?

Deron Williams was brought into the role slowly, but he still started 47 games as a rookie, and still averaged almost 30 minutes a game. By the next season he was already averaging 36 minutes. Teams with an already established winning presence can afford to nurture rookies, like Dallas did with Devin Harris. However, the Bulls stunk up the joint so badly, there is no excuse to not play either Beasley or Rose.

by Ozzie Montana on May 22, 2008 4:51 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I think that whoever we pick

will be playing 30 mins a game by the middle of the season. It will be slow at the beginning, and they might run out of gas toward the end (or be resting before the playoffs), but the #1 pick will get major burn after the first month and a half. It just won’t be 40 mins a game.

by arjoseph on May 22, 2008 4:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

40 min a game is too much for anyone

If Rose or Beasley average less than 28 minutes a game next season, it will just prove that the Bulls have completely forgot how to develop young players. And yes, both of them are susceptible to the rookie wall, I just hope that they will learn how to better condition themselves on a pro team.
