Could we offer more than NJ for Melo?

As you heard the rumors with the Denver - Jersey trade the Nuggets were offering Richard Jefferson and this years pick for Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby. I think we could offer something better than that how about this.

Denver gets: Deng, Hinrich, Gray and next years first rounder.

Chicago gets: Melo, Camby and JR Smith

After that if we could get any cap relief for a package of Hughes, Nocioni and Gooden. We would be in excellent shape. I dont know how the rule exactly works but I know Portland owes Stevie Franchise 17 million next year that would be beautiful.

The Francis contract is untradeable

he was bought out. So use LaFrentz instead, if you must.

We could offer more

...but that is not it.

The bigger question, why would we?

also

we have the trade level exemption thingy

I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

don't know why you'd want J.R. Smith

but he’s a RFA like Gordon or Deng, so it’d be a sign and trade.

by your friendly BullsBlogger on May 21, 2008 4:32 PM CDT reply actions

JR Smith

Would probably take alot better contract than Gordon, shoots more consistant, and is alot younger. I know he played for the Nuggets last yaer but JR is a good defender look at his days with the Hornets. Gordon has to go unless we can move Hughes.

by TRiCioNeRo on May 21, 2008 4:41 PM CDT reply actions

Look at the stats

JR Smiths 30.6 ppg (per 48) is higher than Gordon and Redd and he had to be on the same court as Melo and AI. This guy can score and play decent D.

by TRiCioNeRo on May 22, 2008 11:51 AM CDT up reply actions

At one point last season

when the local Denver media were clamboring to make Smith a starter, Karl scoffed, “He’s the worst defensive player in a league. Why should I make him a starter?”

I have doubts about the D, because if he could play on that end, Paxson probably wouldn't have let him go

He did have a pretty good season as an off the bench chucker. His three point percentage was slightly below Gordon’s for the year while attempting twice as many per 36 minutes. Hopefully, with Rose or Beasley joining the fray, Gordon can likewise take advantage and chuck even more.

We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look.

Even Anthony Carter scored in that system...

Anybody can score playing for Denver last season. And he is an awful defender, and I we already had him once. He won’t play for Paxson.

by swede2287 on May 22, 2008 5:02 PM CDT up reply actions

The guy is Ben Gordon to the extreme

JR Smith chucks, chucks often, and chucks some more. He attempts six three pointers a game….and he doesn’t even start! Let’s not forget he’s a massive headcase, and plays close to 0 defense. Let’s also not forget, we had the freaking guy and traded him for Adrian Griffin. That’s how low Paxson thought of him. Wouldn’t you think Paxson would love his length, and the possibility of playing BG and Smith together?

I don't care for J.R. Smith as a player, but...

I feel it’s important to point out that being able to take all those 3’s per game and make them at a high percentage is a REALLY GOOD thing. Creating shots with that kind of efficiency is really damn hard, and represents a really valuable skill.

The rest of J.R.’s game? Not so much.

No way we'd get Melo *and* Camby

...and I’m not sure why we’d want J.R. Smith. But if we take Rose (which I’d like) and if we can’t hang onto Gordon for a reasonable offer (which would be unfortunate), then I’d be all for trading Deng plus other value (picks, Thabo, cash, whatever) for Melo.

I don’t much care for players who don’t play any defense, but Melo’s offense is spectacular, and he’d be the only non-defender on the court at pretty much all times (assuming Rose at PG, Hinrich at SG, Thomas at PF, Noah at C).

by Jivas on May 21, 2008 8:47 PM CDT reply actions

Sam Smithesque Idea

It’s a bit wild but who knows… I’d say:

1) Draft Rose.
2) Trade Hinrich, Thomas & Sefolosha (Plus picks and maybe Gray and Duhon -via sign ‘n trade) for Miami’s 1st round pick & contracts(In plain English, Beasley).
3) Sing ‘n trade Deng for Iguodala.
4) Trade Gordon, Nocioni and Gooden (Plus whatever we have left from step 2) for Carmelo Anthony & contracts.
5) Find something to do with Hughes.

I know it it more than wild but, again, who knows….

PS: I forgot: *)Sometime during the summer, if it is ok with Paxson and it doesn’t represent any kind of rush, hire a decent coach.

by Agusnico on May 21, 2008 9:02 PM CDT reply actions

Question

Exactly how would Iguodala and Melo work on the same team? I’m all for Iguodala if all it takes is Deng (who is untradable due to his RFA anyhow), but I doubt Pax would sling for 2 people with “attitude issues”.

Plus, wouldn’t that decimate us? We’d be Boston minus about 20 points a game and a proper D.

by Alighieri on May 21, 2008 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Iggy doesn't have attitude issues.

But that scenario will never happen, sorry.

Deng for Igoudala won’t fly with Philly.

Plus we can’t get Anthony with that.

flip it

can we offer more than Denver for Richard Jefferson? RJ is a prototypical sg…. i think Rose and RJ could handle billups and rip (IMO) especailly with BG coming off of the bench to spell both… hinrich, noc and 2nd rounder for RJ?

Mmm... I don't know about

“prototypical shooting guard”... I don’t think he’s a guard. And I don’t think he can shoot.

He’s more of a 3, isn’t he? And an overpaid one, at that. And plus, there have been all kinds of hints about his, shall we say, chemistry issues in that locker room. Frankly, I’m surprised that Denver would even want him.

RJ

big, can drive to the hoop and finish, can defend other 2s, decent jumper…. he plays either a big 2 or a small 3, which only sefo can boast right now. assuming we get Rose then it would be between BG, Hughes, kirk and Sefo to assume the sg duties. RJ is an improvement upon all of them except maybe BG who’s shooting prowess makes him unique. Whatever that means about “kinds of hints about … chemistry”. Maybe it is a good thing he doesnt get a long with the nets locker room, maybe they are a bunch of lazy pricks… i reference everybody hating on noah and labeling him as having chemistry issues when he accurately called the bull’s lazy etc… plus hints/rumors carry little weight with me personally especially having actually met RJ once upon a time in Tucson and thinking hes a decent guy, but to not get someone who is good and could help because of manuifactured character issues… come on now

he can do those things...

better than anybody on the Bull’s current roster. granted that doesnt make him an allstar, just an improvement

Jefferson and Igo are nice

Melo is better… and just incase one day LeBron ever wants out of the Cavs we wouldnt have any problem trading one for the other… If Melo is on the table why would you look at someone else first? I mean if we could amass a combo of Rose, Melo, and Igo wed be the Celtics with no defense.. ok wed also be the Celtics with youth. Me I wouldnt be interested in Igo if we could land Melo. JR Smith’s trade was the dumbest trade we did (thats right worse than the Tyson trade) I know from the past few months how much everyone liked Age Griffin.

by TRiCioNeRo on May 21, 2008 11:09 PM CDT reply actions

This sounds a little old geezerly to me

but I’d also like to maintain SOME continuity here. Adding Rose to our mix seems very exciting…but blowing the whole thing up? It may be unneccessary not to mention counterproductive. Though Anthony’s pure scoring is probably at a higher level than Beasley’s (at this point) anyway.

We need stars

Not players who want to be paid like stars. I mean by the numbers Melo is in another leauge than Deng, Jefferson and Igoudala. Per 48 Melos a 34 10 and 4 guy the only work Melo needs is to not turn the ball over as much and having a top tier PG would do that.

by TRiCioNeRo on May 22, 2008 11:57 AM CDT reply actions

He also has to learn how to play D and rebound

Which is pretty important for most 6’9 players.

Hes not bad

I mean look at these guys stats for rebounds (per 48)
Josh Smith 11.1
Melo 9.8
Deng 8.9
Igoudala 6.6
Jefferson 5.1
