Did the Bulls make an offer to Avery Johnson?

Bill Ingram of Hoopsworld writes that they did make an offer.

The Chicago Bulls would love to have him, but their financial package has already earned a "no thanks" from Avery Johnson.

Maybe I missed the reporting on this, but this is first I have read that the Bulls made any contract offer to any potential head coach.

Anyone else see a report of a contract offer or financial terms of any kind to Avery or his agent?

i like the theory on d'antoni waiting for the bulls to make a 'competitive offer'

but

a. i have almost no doubt that reinsdorf will not allow an offer anywhere near that for d’antoni, and

b. d’antoni will not turn down (let’s say) $10M over 5 years just to coach a better opportunity in the bulls.

this leads me to believe that there chances of the bulls getting d’antoni with the knicks now throwing money at him are slim and none. and slim is starting to do the math, as well. i really hope i’m wrong, though.

i wish someone had told me that sportsnation had replaced rationality with caps lock.

I don't care if they made an offer to Avery, just as long as they don't actually

make a good enough offer to Avery.

Bad implications, though

It’s hard for me to believe that the Bulls would make an offer to Johnson if they weren’t interested in him. It concerns me that they bid so low on someone they actually wanted to land. To me, that implies that they aren’t willing to pay competitive market rates for a good coach, which would be bad as they pursue D’Antoni.

Yea...

If you watch the celtics vs clevland game you might get goosebumps (or at least i do) with how they (boston) are playing defense on clevland. And you gotta believe (it may not be 100% accurate) that thibadeau is behind that defense. If he is then i am very excited.

im trying hard to become the next kirk hinrich, therefore im doing nothing more than being the next chris duhon.

Current crop uninspiring

With D’Antoni gone, the remaining candidates are less than awe inspiring. Curry? Corbin? Thebidou? Johnson? Or retreads like Doug Collins, Van Gumby, or Fratello (if he is even a candidate)? Maybe Pete Myers is the best of the rest and we just don’t know it.

Collins isn't a candidate

I doubt Fratello is, since he’s now more well-known as being the Czar of the Telestrator than for his incredibly boring teams. Thibodeau seems like a fine bet, considering his track record of success with defensive minded teams. If they can somehow hire an offensive coach, guru, robot to get the roster to start playing with more confidence and aggression on that end, I would be entirely more confident about next season.
