Article by Director of IMG, Mike Moreau about Tyrus / Marion
Interesting article written by Mike Moreau of IMG (where Tyrus will be working out this summer) comparing Tyrus to the Matrix, through the lens of their late season matchup this year. Moreau has a lot of confidence in Tyrus's abilities, talent, and future... hopefully the Bulls share the same view.

nice find, I didn't see this the first time around
Another thing I remember from that game was that Tyrus was noticeably bigger than Marion.
I especially like this quote:
One piece of evidence of his commitment to improvement? Look at his free throw percentage. Over a span of 15 games in January and February, Thomas shot 27-30 from the line. That’s 90 percent, and doesn’t happen by hoping. It takes daily, focused work – and a professional mindset to improve some young players never develop.
Naturally, one of the few tangible signs of improvement shown by a player was publicly derided by the coaching staff.

I actually bumped
into Shawn in a Best Buy parking lot here a month before the trade, and was struck by his “normal” size. I used to play with plenty of guys his size “back in the day” f’chrissakes, but this guy guards Dirk in the NBA! Compared to my grocery store sighting of Tom Chambers, a freakishly gigantic mountain-of-a-man, that anyone (who never even saw him play) would believe to be an ex-NBAer, but couldn’t defend to save his life!
Thanks for the link, fundamentally, but it did make me sad for what I miss in Shawn. And I think we all kinda missed Tyrus last year, in a manner of speaking, didn’t we?
But I really think he’s closer to Josh Smith than Marion, as a talent.

and FYI:
the author (Moreau) was Thabo’s trainer at IMG.

that's an interesting tidbit
...that leads me to guess that he likely watches a lot of Bulls games, with more interest than the average NBA writer, and I agree about the coach you mentioned above. Anybody that claims that Tyrus hasn’t been working to improve hasn’t been paying attention. I hope our next coach rewards his improvement rather than deriding him for his current limitations.

Maybe bullshooter can clarify...
...but maybe sitting Tyrus was a case of anti-showcasing. I mean, maybe Paxson believes SO MUCH in Tyrus that he didn’t want him to play, knowing he’d be awesome good, and teams would swoop in with ridiculous trade offers that would seriously tempt Pax. Ya think that’s the case. Anti-showcasing?

Nice find. I wish guys like KC and John Johnson, Brian Hanley, etc,
would put some effort into their jobs and forage for little nuggets like this—before firing off their next rounds of unwarranted anti-Tyrus screed.
All they’re doing is turning the local fans away from the guy, and in the process making it more difficult for Paxson, whether he likes Thomas or not (and I suspect he does—my impression is that he’s been reluctant to include Thomas’ name in trade talks), to throw his public support behind Tyrus.
