Open Game Thread #61: Bulls vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Even the prospect of booing and laughing at Ben Wallace isn't enough to get me excited about being in attendance tonight.

Game is early, 6pm CST.

Cavs did play last night, so that's something. It was against the Knicks, true, but still something. And despite what my pessimism yesterday may have indicated, I do indeed want the Bulls to win games the rest of the way...so I note that fact as a good thing.

Above the comment threads are hilarious.  Maybe this time they learn to not leave Joe Smith open for those jumpers, you know, he used to make for the Bulls about 3 weeks ago.

I don't mind
losing Larry Hughes next year.

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 5:54 PM CST reply actions

Ooh, what will Charles and Co.
have to say about the suspension? This is so exciting! (NOT)

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 5:57 PM CST reply actions

If they ever stop talking about Lebron
and the Lebrons, maybe we'll find out.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 6:06 PM CST up reply actions

This is my first game with DVR capabilities
so I'm really hoping for a great game and a lot of great Bulls' plays to rewatch!
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 6:02 PM CST reply actions

just remember
to set the DVR to record a bit longer than the 2 1/2 hours.

by KT on Mar 6, 2008 6:12 PM CST up reply actions

I'm not optimistic
Without TT, o his going to slow donw Lebron???

by bull83 on Mar 6, 2008 6:04 PM CST reply actions

Thank heaven for Chuck to
take my mind off how much I hate Red Kerr

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 6:06 PM CST reply actions

Oh, gag!
How idiotic to say that the entire city is there to see Lebron James.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 6:17 PM CST reply actions

almost as bad
as the minutes he takes from tyrus

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 6:22 PM CST up reply actions

hahaha
Remember when Peter had them in there on Family Guy.  At least that was funny.

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 6:30 PM CST up reply actions

Luol looks like shit.
Boylan shoulda suspended his ass for TT's antics.
At least TT can score.
Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 6:35 PM CST up reply actions

Noah looks great tonight!
Probably means he'll get yanked any moment for the rest of the half

by Option27 on Mar 6, 2008 6:29 PM CST reply actions

what was that about Deng
and not being able to finish?
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 6:35 PM CST reply actions

Luol looks terrified
I hate how he's totally psyched out.  Too much pump faking, Luol!

by paxson43 on Mar 6, 2008 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

Amazing how Luol Deng's....
... achilles looks fine when matched up against Wally.  But he looks so plain against LeBron...again.  But it's early so we'll see how that match up goes.

Hopefully we can pull this game off though.  As far as Deng goes though I have always asserted that against inferior defenders he has his way, but struggles mightily against more athletic players unless he happens to get some junk put-backs around the basket.  And in case anyone is wondering why i'm so tough on Deng, it's because he HAS to be such an important player for us if we are going to be any good.  He's gotta get physically and mentally tougher.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Mar 6, 2008 6:54 PM CST up reply actions

gooden looks good so far
who are they going to bring off of the bench to rest him?  Gray?
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 6:41 PM CST reply actions

prolly be playing deng at the 4 a little
with 3 gaurds or noce in there too

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 6:43 PM CST up reply actions

typical stupid noce
not even trying to contest that shot

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 6:42 PM CST reply actions

Noah with 9 or 10 rebs already....
Where is Big Ben?....... The walking dead.... The corpse?

by BiNgO on Mar 6, 2008 6:43 PM CST reply actions

Wow. Way to let him get it
off in rhythm on that 30 footer. (Noc)

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 6:44 PM CST reply actions

Gray is playing well, but I do agree that
Boylan has a tendency to pull guys when they are hot.  Bulls need a new coaching staff, not a bunch of cheerleaders.  They already have the Luvabulls.

by BiNgO on Mar 6, 2008 6:53 PM CST up reply actions

yeah i totally agree
noah could come back in at the 4 though at least for a little while seeing as how we are thin there tonite

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 6:59 PM CST up reply actions

I swear Aaron Gray just....
..made the slowest move in the history of the game of basketball...LOL.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Mar 6, 2008 6:55 PM CST reply actions

I swear
Noah was dominating this game.

Why the fuck is he not back in yet?!

by Option27 on Mar 6, 2008 6:59 PM CST reply actions

this team doesn't seem to have
any energy right now.  Everybody seems tired.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 7:00 PM CST reply actions

how are the bulls in this game
nobody has made a shot yet.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 7:05 PM CST reply actions

don't worry
with any luck we'll only be down 15 at the half

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 7:07 PM CST up reply actions

Just so everyone knows
I can make that fade away three, too.  I'm not that impressed.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 7:10 PM CST reply actions

I swear listening to them drool all over Lebron
is the worst part of watching these games.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 7:13 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed.
F Chuck and Dooogie
Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 7:15 PM CST up reply actions

james...
there is no one on our team that can stop him....there is nobody period as of late

by bullzfan148 on Mar 6, 2008 7:12 PM CST reply actions

They get down by two
and as soon as they do, Coach goes small w/ Hughes on LBJ! Incredible, predictable and EL STUPIDO!

For the Lu haters: how do you like Noc or Hughes on LBJ???

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 7:12 PM CST reply actions

I'm pissed about Lebron's 3 point shooting lately
He's going to be even more unstoppable in NBA 2k9.

by rexisourqb on Mar 6, 2008 7:13 PM CST reply actions

Just wanted to point out...
...Gray is tied for the team high in points with 2 minutes left....after only playing 7....yikes.

by PittFan on Mar 6, 2008 7:15 PM CST reply actions

....and just in time...
....he's coming back for more...

by PittFan on Mar 6, 2008 7:16 PM CST up reply actions

yeah but i really don't understand him
coming in for the rest of the quarter when noah is playing well

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 7:19 PM CST up reply actions

I forgot how ugly Delonte West is
what a goofy lookin' turd
Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 7:18 PM CST reply actions

i understand him screaming after that shot
but he has screamed in ecstasy everytime lebron hits a shot

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 7:22 PM CST reply actions

I am getting SO SICK
of the Lebron worship here...
Ugh.
Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 7:22 PM CST reply actions

I never get to see Bulls games...
...but do they ever play Gray at the 5 and Noah at the 4 at the same time?

by PittFan on Mar 6, 2008 7:23 PM CST reply actions

Take away Lebron's 10-15 shooting
and the rest of the Cavs are shooting just as badly as the Bulls.  Not that this helps or anything, but its kind of interesting.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 7:26 PM CST reply actions

Sounds like what the rest...
...of the NBA was saying for the years Jordan was a Bull.  Bottom line is that 10-15 FG shooting counts toward the cleveland total.  It'd be nice if we have a guy with the balls to try to match his output.  Not that they could match him, but we obviously don't.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Mar 6, 2008 7:28 PM CST up reply actions

I really don't
like watching Hughes play. I do however like watching Noah play.

by sue369 on Mar 6, 2008 7:26 PM CST reply actions

Hughes is just another selfish jerk
a Ben Wallace that can score....sometimes...
Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 7:35 PM CST up reply actions

It's a good thing we rebound
well, or we'd be down by 20. Good thing they have LeBron, or they'd by down by even more.

He's a great passer, but why not try forcing him to give up the ball? LBJ is not a guy you can guard straight up with one man. Traps and doubles; let the team beat you.

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 7:27 PM CST reply actions

yeah i would rather see jones hitting 3's on us
then this bastard what's his name calling the game scream in orgasm every time james makes a jumper

what is

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

Stolen from MJ, right??
Wasn't MJ the original chalk-clapper guy?  He used to do it right in Red Kerr's face before every tip-off.

by BullsFanInSeattle on Mar 6, 2008 8:31 PM CST up reply actions

I wasn't aware that he did it ritually, but someone on here should be able to refresh my feeble memory?

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 10:18 PM CST up reply actions

And it sure makes more sense
for LeBron to steal from MJ than Garnett. Damn, I can't believe I forgot that! The ravages of time.

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 9:28 PM CST up reply actions

Kevin Harlan (sp?)
He's Marv Albert-lite. I get fooled every time he does the intro, but not once he calls the game.

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

I'd agree with you
but I don't think BaB nation could handle a double-double from Ben Wallace, which is what would happen.  I'd rather get beat by LBJ.  It's a hell of a lot more beautiful to watch.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 7:34 PM CST up reply actions

Boylan said if you don't play good
you sit.

What the hell good did Hughes do in the first half going 0-5?

Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 7:42 PM CST reply actions

They should play the big ben chime
everytime wall-ass gets a foul or misses a shot...

now THAT would be funny!

Spring training....FINALLY!!

by Bluelou on Mar 6, 2008 7:47 PM CST reply actions

with all that rest gray gave noah in the first hal
i really hope boylan stretches him out some for the remainder of the game because he is having a nice game (noah that is)

maybe with boylan's scapegoat suspended tonite he can actually act like a coach and try noah at the 4 and gray at the five for some extended minutes

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 7:49 PM CST reply actions

With the poor shooting...
....those two could just camp out and pull down the bricks for easy put backs all night...imagine that, TWO guys getting boards and layups....

by PittFan on Mar 6, 2008 7:51 PM CST up reply actions

bulls best offensive play tonight
is throw it off of the front of the rim to Noah.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 7:54 PM CST reply actions

hilarious
swear to god that is exactly what boylan draws up in every huddle

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

It's funny
because it's true.  Noah is demonstrating how trading Wallace and giving Noah his minutes is a net positive.

by rexisourqb on Mar 6, 2008 7:56 PM CST up reply actions

So I guess at half Boylan said
Kirk, your shooting for crap tonight - how about you contribute by bashing Lebron in the elbow with your head.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 7:55 PM CST reply actions

"LeBron has not made a shot
since his elbow was hit BY THE HEAD OF KIRK HINRICH"! LOL!

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 7:56 PM CST reply actions

this game...
... is the example why noah needs to play more minutes... if omly TT could have those minutes too

by bull83 on Mar 6, 2008 8:01 PM CST reply actions

They were actually throwing a second
man at LBJ, and it was working. But these last two possessions, he's used picks they set. You can't hit every 3.

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 8:04 PM CST reply actions

I'm saving this game as the official
NOAH break out game and better yet ... against Wallace.

I'm greedy

I want 30 rebounds!

by Option27 on Mar 6, 2008 8:04 PM CST reply actions

if BG can heat up
the bulls have a good chance to get this one.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 8:06 PM CST reply actions

Hmmm...
Maybe the Bulls have a shot against the LeBrons' tonight

by RogersPark Kris on Mar 6, 2008 8:07 PM CST reply actions

Hmmm is exactly how I feel
Until the buzzer rings and we have more points than Cleveland will I believe.

by chgobr on Mar 6, 2008 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

Wow
It's a Deng juumpshot sighting.

by rexisourqb on Mar 6, 2008 8:16 PM CST reply actions

Of course he's having a good game.
Ben Gordon is having jus as good if not a better game.

That's what Deng does though when we are either winning or losing by a large margin.  Whenever the game is in doubt, he disappears.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Mar 6, 2008 8:36 PM CST up reply actions

Inside the Mind of Boylan
You know.  We got the lead, we're playing well.  Noah is playing good, Gray has been solid.  You know, its time to try that totally defenseless frontline of Gooden and Nocioni.  Perfect.

by danger mouse on Mar 6, 2008 8:18 PM CST reply actions

inside the mind of boylan
is nothing but a dog licking itself

by ihatenoce on Mar 6, 2008 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

Boylan works his magic
And by magic I mean leaving a big coaching turd on the court

by RogersPark Kris on Mar 6, 2008 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

Yea, I freaked a little
when he went w/ Gooden the last :30 of the 3rd, when Noah got his 4th foul. Will we see Noah in the 4th?????  At All??????

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 8:25 PM CST up reply actions

Only if someone on the floor plays well
Then Boylan will remember to sub Noah in for that person.
Maybe I'll take up hockey.

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 8:29 PM CST up reply actions

Inside the mind of Boylan
I bet Lebron's is going to go to the basket every play in the 4th.  Gooden and Noce are known for their ability to protect the rim.

by danger mouse on Mar 6, 2008 8:21 PM CST reply actions

Noc is exactly the kind of player
to take a forehead to Lebron's elbow.

grimacing about that call for? He totally popped Deng!

don't waste one of the few good 3rds you've played all season!

by wjb1492 on Mar 6, 2008 8:26 PM CST reply actions

Deng is playing well...
... maybe boylan puts him on the bench

by bull83 on Mar 6, 2008 8:31 PM CST reply actions

To me, that's the story of the night
After a month and a half where Luol played as badly as I've seen him play, he's put together two stellar games: first 21-9-5, then 23-8-4.  He even played decent defense against Rudy Gay and Lebron.

A near-all-star Luol for the rest of the season changes everything (almost).

by YaoPau on Mar 6, 2008 10:26 PM CST up reply actions

Wow Noah!
Noah has 19 rebounds in 29 minutes.  Inspired play tonight.  I don't know if it was Wallace, Thomas or his Wheaties, but he is playing awesome.

Love seeing Ben take that all the way in,
and love seeing Joakim running the floor behind him.  If Boylan will just leave him in, Joakim should be well past 20 rebounds tonight.

Shot clock :05. Inbounds to Noah (!) at 20 ft. No one to pass to, so he drives left all the way to the hole. Cavs mystified! Score board: 100 points!

by bull83 on Mar 6, 2008 8:56 PM CST reply actions

Sweeeet team win!!!
The defense in the last quarter was awesome.

by sue369 on Mar 6, 2008 8:56 PM CST reply actions

Let's not get carried away here.
A win is a win and we'll take any we can get.  But Cleveland was on the second night of a back to back and we shot the lights out.  Our problem has always been that we can't shoot the ball that consistently.  Let's see how we do on the second night of our back to back.  Let's see this level of play sustained.  Lest we all forget, this current Bulls team's longest winning streak of the year is TWO!!!  That is absolutely deplorable.  But like I said, a win is a win and we'll take it.

Funny thing is, it seems LeBron had a bad overall game but still finished with 37 pts and if he had the juice he may very well have been able to bring them back early in the 4th...LOL.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Mar 6, 2008 9:09 PM CST reply actions

And can we give it up for Joakim Noah!!!
20 rebounds...WOW!!!  Great game young fella.  See what happens when Boylan lets a young guy just go out and play.  Maybe when Tyrus Thomas gets back Boylan will let him do the same.

It all kinda makes you wonder why Skiles would never play the young guys.  Hell, in all honesty they are better than the veteran bunch Skiles ran out there every night...or at least as good.

by lexdiamonds0730 on Mar 6, 2008 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

How
in heck did they manage this win? With Hughes and Gooden sitting, no less????

:=D

by marionette on Mar 6, 2008 9:21 PM CST up reply actions

the bulls got this win with def and rebounding
they shot less than 35% in the first half and didn't really light it up until the end.  Cavs are a good team, no need to pooh-pooh this win.  Bull have played a couple of games this week, too.
Baby Bulls II?

by bullshooter on Mar 6, 2008 9:50 PM CST up reply actions

They should call this game
"Return of the Core."

Deng and BG looked reborn.

Too little, too late, but at least the UC was rockin' tonight.

JN was incredible, as well.

This game made me angry
The Bulls wasted half the year playing Wallace ahead of Noah!  If Noah had played more in the first half of the season, maybe the Bulls wouldn't be scrapping for the last playoff spot in a pathetic conference.  Noah would probably be further along too.

Bulls are 5-1 when Noah
grabs 10+. Saw that (on Sports Center?) while at the gym last night, so who knows if it's true, but it seems reasonable. Small sample size, but hard not to think of what could've been.

Wallace wouldn't have gotten traded...
If the Bulls didn't play Wallace, he would never have gotten traded because all teams would (rightfully) assume that he was completely done.  Wallace was given minutes prior to the deadline to showcase his skills and the Cavs bit.  Besides, benching him would have created even more chemistry problems.  Playing him was a necessary evil.

Much love for Prince Joakim
20 boards against Andy, Wallace, Smith, and James is no tall order.  They caught the Cavs tired and made them pay for it, which is what decent teams do.  I'm all for picking up quality wins when you give the young guys some run.  Now, please destroy the honeymoon of ET Cassell, or at least lose by less than 10.

poor shooting, but good decision making
and the defensive play of the game.

Huh
oh...huh?

I really dont mean it to be funny. I do believe that is what kirk hinrich is, at least for now. But if it truly offends someone ill stop using it. Its not a racist joke, but as a fan of his i needed to give him some title, and that was the only one that came up. If it truly is bothering people then ill stop using it though.

Clevland
To stop them is a bit easier. he is the only real threat. With Boston, they have three guys who can really hurt u. In terms of matchup, without thabo or tyrus, we really dont match up well at all. Will Savvy Sam be with boston tomaro?

the bulls matchup fine
just a question of how well they play together.

My fear from this game
is that Boylan starts thinking "Look how great we did without Tyrus playing!  Why should he get any minutes going forward?"
