Open Game Thread #72: Bulls at Atlanta Hawks

This is it. A loss here means finally the playoff talk stops.

Or as My Man Sam put it in his final Tribune column: "the must-not-lose-yet-again game"

I can smell the playoff atmosphere
Chris Webber is still the lowpost answer!

good choice
Chris Webber announced his retirement from the NBA on this Wednesday, bowing to a knee injury that cut short his comeback attempt with the Warriors.

Here comes a loss
By about 25 points. I hope Noah gets 40 minutes and hopefully Tyrus can get some burn against a fastbreak team like the hawks.

Hughes chucking bricks and looking SO shitty...
Ugh.

by Bluelou on Mar 28, 2008 6:50 PM CDT   0 recs

Honestly - I can't stand Hughes
I would much rather see Thabo than Hughes starting.

At least Thabo is fun to watch, and even in his WORST moments he looks better than Hughes' better moments.

WHY did they get him anyway?
Oh yeah...the Wallace thaang.
So Wallace gets the last laugh in the end regardless....

sheesh

Hughes makes a good drinking game though
Hit every possession he shoots the first time he touches the ball - double if it's just inside the arc.

It's a habit retained from college
I actually don't drink anymore, but for some reason I still find drinking games in weird places.

I'm in college...
and when Ben Wallace was still on the team, if he made a free throw, that was chug a whole beer.

current rules:

dunks- you drink, either team...you drink for getting owned or you drink for tyrus or noah providing us with a nice dunk.

three-pointers:  drink three, if we make them.

bulls make a foul shot, drink.

umm...the rules change a bit depending on how tanked you want to get. :)

At least if we make the playoffs at the 8th seed, Tyrus can get back at Posey for breaking his nose...

by AGBallinisaHabit on Mar 29, 2008 12:17 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thabo is hurt, so stop asking for him
Plus he can't play D, need to average at least 1 steal per game in this league.

by Homegrown on Mar 28, 2008 10:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's pretty funny, because
(1) steals are not the equivalent of good defense, and (2) (if they were, for the sake of argument,) Thabo averages 2.09 steals per 48 minutes.

Boxscore's only got him with 2
I kind of like his new theory of knocking people down though.  Might as well make those few fouls and little PT memorable, right?  Maybe they could trade him to the Bears?

Larry Hughes continues his brilliant play
in a Bulls uniform.  Stick a fork in him, he's done!

by danger mouse on Mar 28, 2008 7:28 PM CDT   0 recs

I really want the Bulls to win this game
Not because I want them to make the playoffs, but because I don't want Atl to make the playoffs.  There pick is going to PHX and perhaps PHX wouldn't mind trading that pick for a veteran (I'm looking at you Noce).

by danger mouse on Mar 28, 2008 7:31 PM CDT   0 recs

bad idea
the bulls don't need any more youngsters.  The only trade that benefits them (besides a Hughes dump) is packaging several players together to get one clearly better player.

by danger mouse on Mar 28, 2008 7:39 PM CDT   0 recs

So did Du and Boylan kiss and make up, too?
He's getting an awful lot of playing time here.  Although, much to my surprise, I don't mind him near as much when the alternative is chuckin' Larry.

front of two refs who don't have the balls to call a foul.

by sue369 on Mar 28, 2008 7:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I hate Hughes
almost as much as I hate Boylan. Jesus Christ Jim start Thabo.

Oh yeah...these refs suck!!!!

by sue369 on Mar 28, 2008 7:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Do you follow this team, Thabo is hurt
Hughes is done for this year, they are not going to risk him, he is the trade though, so you better learn his game, you don't lead the league in steals and win the division (playing point gaurd last year) and go to the finals.  4 weeks with a new team is nothing to judge, your way off.
Watch for Arenas, then you have a star in Chicago, now you have nobody, not one superstar player on your team.
Also, don't worry who starts, its minutes in the NBA not starting (thats junior high).  Thabo's groin muscle is pulled, can't figure why every post says play him, start him?

by Homegrown on Mar 28, 2008 10:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Are you Thabo's Dr?
I know he's been hurt. He's been playing through it and playing well. He deserves to be starting.

I really don't give a shit what Hughes has done in the past. He does not fit with this team. He needs to go.

Oh and your spelling of gaurd should be guard and your should be you're (that's elementary).

by sue369 on Mar 28, 2008 11:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Man, Davidson isn't having much trouble with

by NittanyBull on Mar 28, 2008 7:57 PM CDT   0 recs

the season is over
I like Love or Augustin with the 8th/9th pick.  We obviously could use a post player (since we feature a 5 guard rotation) and i think we can use a true point guard who can penetrate and finish.

by danger mouse on Mar 28, 2008 8:10 PM CDT   0 recs

It's like they go to the lockerroom at the half
and Boylan gives them some speech about being right in it ... and they guys look at each other, remember they don't want to make the playoffs if it means playing longer under Boylan, and come out with this in the 3rd.

by wjb1492 on Mar 28, 2008 8:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, it's mutual, or whatever that would be,
because I don't want this team to play either.

After tonight it's 4 back with 10 to play, right?  And 3 teams the Bulls would have to jump?  So can they please just let the kids play for the rest of the season?

Help defense blocks.

The block of Josh Smith wasn't as spectacular, but it was better defense.

I thought Noc had a third big block on Horford but the refs called a foul.  Looked like all ball in the replays.

As bad as he's playing, why in the world would anyone want to trade for him?

by Big D on Mar 28, 2008 9:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd rather see Duhon back than Hughes
Duhon is fine as backup point guards go; the problem was when Skiles played him starter's minutes.  Hughes is going to be guaranteed big minutes just because of his contract, and he's blocking a younger, cheaper player in Thabo.

by Big D on Mar 28, 2008 9:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Joe Johnson and Andre Igoudala
have abused Larry Hughes the last two games.  Hughes has height, but he has no strength at all to limit how deep a SG or SF can post him on the low block.

Hinrich is a better defender despite being shorter and lighter.
