Deng & Gordon's Summer Plans

Gordon, Deng could restrict Bulls overhaul
The Daily Herald

Supposedly Gordon is going to spend the summer in New York, away from the Berto Center. Both Luol and Gordon are going to play for the England National Team, which has some games in August and September.

Deng on the English National Team?
i wonder if he will disappear in the 4th Quarter for them too.

4th Quarter Woes
Deng might play better if he ever got off the floor.  Its hard to play the entire 2nd half and still be fresh with two minutes to go.

i'm sick of that excuse
plenty of guys play as many minutes as him and don't check out in crunch time.

But the trade rumors!!!
They were so hard on him :(

i'm sick of that excuse too
he's 22 years old for chrissakes.

imagine how tired he will be in the 4th quarter when he actually reaches the age of 25.  he'll have nothing left in the tank by halftime!

they probably
have a better substitution pattern, however, and actually manage to get rest in the 2nd half.

as i said in another thread, against philly, new orleans, and indiana, he got no rest in the 2nd half whatsoever.  against san antonio, a blowout, he still played 20 straight minutes.  only night he got significant rest was against new jersey.

that's not normal, and it shouldn't be expected of him to play 24 minutes straight every single game.

yeah, Boylan's sub patterns are terrible
but i still don't remember Lu taking over any games down the stretch this year, even before the Achilles flare-up or before Skiles got axed.

i am a big Deng fan and want him to step it up.  it just doesn't look like he is an assertive enough player at this point to be anything more than a third option.

i would like nothing better than for him to prove me wrong.

Yeah, if the England National
Team plays against other teams with NBA talent, it will be really interesting to see whether Deng fumbles key rebounds, misses key shots, takes long, contested jumpers early in the shot clock, and goes to his predictable pull-up jumper.

It is not out of the question to see people like Sam Delambert or Gelabale spiking his shots like set volleyballs.

Hopefully this season and this coming off-season will put to rest any notions that Deng was ever going to be an All-Star. Maybe he can just shut the hell up and except MLE-type money and be a solid (but not great) player for the Bulls from next season onward.

"Duhon, don't make that garbage-time jumper... Save it for the next game!"

Deng blows
cynical attitude, but noteworthy
Deng is overhyped.
Let's keep Deng rather than get Kobe Bryant or Paol Gasol.

Wow u guys are ruthless!!!
I thought I was the only Deng ass kicker around here!!  I have let up on him in recent days and I feel justified in doing so because it is clear that others see what I saw.  Mentally fragile player who does not get the most out of what he has and pulls what I used to call his "David Copperfield" act down the stretch of close games, but he'll put up nice numbers when it doesn't matter.  But it was always about the money for me when it came to Deng.  The way he plays now, he's no $10 mil a year guy.  Not even close. But someone may offer it to him though.

Nonetheless, if we intend to keep him then I hope he goes over there and develops a post game.  More than anything we need Deng to give us a post up option from his position.  If he develops this part of his game it will give him a weapon to use when the game gets tight and he won't have to depend on the jumper.  If effecive it could add about 6-8 ppg to his average and catapult him into the star category in the league...and if we are winning we may even be able to call him a superstar at that point!

But there is no cure for mental fragility so we'll see about that.  And people should really stop saying he plays too many minutes.  He's only averaging a lil' bit over 36 mpg for his last 13 games where he's playing a lot and in his 5 highest games he averages 42.8 mpg and that's not unusual for a guy you hope can lead you to victory.

Iverson, Joe Johnson, Jamal Crawford and LeBron James all average over 40 mpg so the two extra he has averaged in his 5 highest total games is not an excuse.  There are times when star players are asked to play big minutes...sometimes in consecutive nights.  That's part of making the big money and being the man.  The minutes deal is not an excuse.

Man up Luol Deng and do ya thing.  We need you to go have a productive summer and get your body and mind ready for next season!!
